Chapter 3 - Black Blood

Chapter 3 - Black Blood

After the dark beam was released, it traveled quickly towards the location of the anomaly. After reaching it, there was a quick flash of blood splattering everywhere at once, and suddenly a grey wolf appeared where he felt the anomaly was present. He heard a sound in his mind as he looked at the laying wolf, bleeding from its right side where the beam went through its body and towards the tree that had only suffered only minimal damage.

‘ding’ You have defeated [Obscure wintergrowl wolf - lvl 12]. For defeating a being ten levels or higher than your own, bonus experience is gained.

‘ding’ Voyager of the Void has reached lvl 2. 5 Stat points awarded.

He read through the text quickly as he heard multiple growls around him in a circle. They have me encircled, this is bad… He thought as he focused on the sound and the mana around that is visible with his eyes. There may be five or more wolves around me. Can be manageable if I do this right… He extended both of his arms towards the supposed locations of the two wolves closest to him that are still moving towards his location. They have a camouflage sort of skill, plus they are fast, so I got to deal with them quickly. After that line of thought, he released two void beams towards the two wolves. One hit directly into one’s chest, confirming the kill he got when he heard the ding in his mind, while the second wolf barely missed, getting away with just being grazed by its right side.

Alright, perfect timing… He thought as he activated his Void Drain skill. He felt two forms of energy enter his body, replenishing his lost resources. The wolf doesn’t have a lot, but it should help me going. He thought as he looked behind himself, noticing two other wolves coming towards him, already quite close to his location. I can only fire one beam, and that would not guarantee the kill, so either way, I will have one or two wolves that I will have to take on in close combat, which is not ideal.

He moved his right palm towards one wolf and fired the beam immediately. Although it didn’t finish the job immediately, it destroyed two of the wolf’s legs, which effectively made it immobile and out of the battle. The other wolf was already upon Andreas and has bitten him on his left leg. The pain felt agonizing as the black blood came out of the wound. Andreas immediately started to drain the immobilized wolf’s health and mana. I can only drain one target at a time… He thought as he focused the drain on the immobilized wolf, noticing that he got more resources from him. So I gain more if my enemy has more damage dealt to him by me.

He quickly clenched one of his fists as he started hitting the wolf that bit him in the leg. As he hit the wolf he focused mana on his left palm, firing the void beam directly into the wolf’s head, killing him on the spot.

He focused on the wolf that only had a wound to his side and fired another beam just as it was about to reach him. The beam went right through the left eye of the wolf and killed him instantly. After he heard the ding and started to focus on his surroundings. The wound on his leg was slowly starting to close as he drained the immobilized wolf’s health and mana. He promptly ignored it as it couldn’t do anything to him, so he decided to kill it only after killing the remaining wolves.

There are three left, excluding the one I am draining the recourses from right now… Mayb- His line of thought abruptly stopped as he noticed three camouflaged wolves moving towards him from three different directions, and they were fast. Andreas immediately focused his mana on his two palms as he fired them all on the two closest wolves while jumping just in time to avoid the third wolf’s bite. One wolf was immediately killed, while the other one stricken with the beam was left unmoving before Andreas got a ding for that kill.

He focused on himself and found that he had about 90 or so mana left. The drain from the immobilized wolf as slowing and decreasing, likely meaning that he shouldn’t expect much from it. Then I shall finish this in one decisive blow. He thought as he focused 90 mana on his left palm. While he did that, he avoided the remaining wolf that was chasing after him.

Andreas abruptly stopped and the wolf saw that as a window of opportunity as he quickly leaped towards him. Andreas smirked a little as he extended his left hand towards the wolf’s head. Right after doing so, a quick flash of black lightning appeared and just as quickly disappeared. The wolf immediately collapsed, with a gaping hole in its skull form the magic that went right through it and towards the tree, which almost caused it to collapse.

Seeing this, Andreas was relieved as he heard the sounds in his mind. The immobilized wolf died right before the last one did, likely due to two of its legs being destroyed along with his drain.

Andreas quickly looked through the battlefield, seeing multiple mangled corpses of the wolves around him. It didn’t bother him much, Andreas already seeing many deadly encounters on his own, along with multiple deaths, some that he was indirectly or directly was related to.

Although the advantage was against him regarding the numbers, the human mind can always find a way through if it is intelligent enough, although if he didn’t have the class immediately, the chances of him surviving would have been close to zero.

He sat down on a clean patch of snow, devoid of blood and gore. He started to look through his notifications.

He looked at his class-related notifications and he couldn’t help but smile at the progress he made. And not even ten minutes have passed from me getting the class. He thought with a smile as he checked through other notifications.

‘ding’ You have gained the general skill “Pain Resistance”

Pain Resistance - lvl 1

You have gotten an injury that caused a great amount of pain and survived through it. This skill should allow you to again survive great amounts of pain, with less pain.

‘ding’ Pain Resistance reaches lvl 2

He was happy that he got a general skill for that. Although pain itself exists for a reason, lessened sensation and amounts of it shouldn’t handicap him. After all, even with or without pain, he knew when some injury was dangerous or life-threatening upon first glance, so he will still act accordingly.

He looked at the wound on his leg caused by the wolf’s bite. The draining of the handicapped wolf along with his Health’s natural regeneration helped him heal the wound at a somewhat fast speed, with the wound barely visible at this point. Although I am interested that I bled black blood… He thought as he looked at his status.

He noticed as he looked through his status that he had 25 statpoints that he could spend. He thought about how he could spend his statpoints until he put 10 into Wisdom, 5 into Intelligence, 5 into strength, and final 5 into VItality.

Status:

Vitality: 30

Strength: 15

Dexterity: 15

Intelligence: 25

Wisdom 30

Health: 195/300

Stamina: 71/100

He put 5 into strength since he noticed that his punches did not particularly do as much damage as he expected to the wolf that bit him, and although his class was mage-like and was mainly focused on Wisdom and Intelligence, partially on VItality due to Void Drain, one could never lack a bit of a punch. All the other ones are logical due to his class.

After closing his status window, he looked around and finally looked at the dead bodies of this wolf pack that he killed. Would be a waste to let them rot… at least most of them… He thought as he started pilling all of their bodies in one spot. After that, he moved towards the tree and picked up sticks and parts of the wood that were either marginally wet or not wet at all. It was hard though due to constant snow falling to the ground. Quickly after he went to the river and picked a bunch of stone pieces.

It took him a few hours, the day slowly fading away as he finally started the fire. He put one wolf’s body on a stick above the fire as he sat down on the snow, waiting for the wolf to be cooked.

He created a small stone knife, although it was nothing close to a knife and cut off the wolves’ skin. It took some time and practice but he got a hang of it pretty quickly. He used his almost-forgotten class back in high school where they taught them about the survival in the wilderness. Although he didn’t need fire to heat himself as he felt no cold at all, he wanted to at least try not to eat raw wolf meat. If this doesn’t work, then so be it.

He waited for a long amount of time before the wolf was completely cooked. He sliced off one part of the meat and put it in his mount and started chewing. In his opinion, it was not so bad, but it could be better, but if he had to look at his current circumstances, this meal was like eating golden steak.

After surprisingly finishing one wolf, he started to cook another one and eventually ate that one completely too. He wanted to eat another one but it was getting dark quickly, and he didn’t want to attract any beast that he can’t deal it, so he quickly extinguished the fire, buried most of the remaining bodies under the snow, just in case he needed them and started walking along the river downwards.

While walking, he thought about everything that happened from the moment he died to the present. He never gave an actual thought about how everything was weird. He met a dragon in the Void, got blasted by it, appeared in some random snowy forest, got a good and strong class out of nowhere, and finally the wolf pack that attacked him, although the latter was probably common here, being hunted by the camouflage-capable wolves.

Maybe that explains why I didn’t see single wildlife expect those wolves… The camouflage is indeed overpowered mutation… or skill in this case... He thought with a small smile as he noticed that the river got wider until it suddenly stopped.

“Hmmm… waterfall?” He asked himself quietly as he increased his walking pace slowly and slowly until he started running. He ran at phenomenal speeds, without a sweat being dropped from his body as he abruptly stopped. He looked down the waterfall and saw that there were at least 100 meters between where the river ended and where he could see the closest body of water that stood there unwavering. Beyond the waterfall was a huge body of water, stretching far and wide, rarely seeing any evidence of a surface existing even with him making his full use of his new and nearly-perfect eyes, along with his skill. He noticed that there was an abundance of blue-like waves in the air right in the lake, but most of them were in groups, while the ones who were alone were stronger in color, but there was something Andreas noticed in those lone waves that he couldn’t entirely describe in words.

… A feeling… that’s the closest thing I can connect it to using my realm of understanding, or in other words, my brain… But something tells me that I shouldn’t go there the way I am. He thought as he looked at the sky and was only met with two moons, with the blue moon being closer to the planet, unlike the red-like moon that reminded him of Mars in some way, that was farther away from the other moon, and in a completely different position, being way above the blue moon from his perspective.

The Mars-like moon seems to be doing just fine…. But the other one… He couldn’t help it but think that it was unnaturally blue. Although he could just say that it was magic, that was unsurprisingly not the answer he was satisfied with. And I may not be that entirely wrong…

He learned that he could turn on and off the ability to see mana due to how much mana the blue moon had around itself, and he did it subconsciously. The light or mana surrounding the blue planet was purely blue, with no trace of any color or any other type of mana that enveloped the planet. He felt like there was something wrong there, with it being unnaturally blue and not to mention the mana surrounding it, but again, with this sad amount of information, he could figure out as much stuff as any other clueless being could, or in other words, nothing.

He was slightly surprised that the night had come so quickly, but it could be just him or the rotation of this planet was quicker than the Earth’s. He was slightly sad that he wasn’t on Earth anymore but the moment he saw the new, unfamiliar land, he knew this was the case. The camouflage wolves only proved that this was indeed the case-

I can still see… even though it’s night currently… Magic is indeed cool. He thought with a small smile as he started heading back along the river. Even though he would like to spend all night at the source of the waterfall, looking at the night sky that was not light-polluted in any way with fascination, he knew that the night in this world would be dangerous, even more so than on the Earth. Who knows what kind of beasts lay hidden in the day that only come out in the empty radiance of the night.

He started to walk slightly faster while keeping an eye on his surroundings, hoping to either notice a beast before it attacked him or temporary shelter for the night.

What he was looking for, was a cave.
