Freezing chaos and darkness surrounded the grey and blue planet. Swirling waves of multicolored energy crashed into it, stopped by a radiant blue barrier. Both the barrier and energy were invisible to most, but there were those that could see. In a place hidden from view deep below the mantle of the world was a small, cozy room. In it, two beings slumbered. They had been there for many years now, their minds and bodies changing and adapting to a new power.
Although everything inside the small chamber was silent, things were changing rapidly inside the minds of the two beings. Where first they had been so deep in slumber that they could do nothing, the changes to their minds were slowly coming to fruition, and they began rousing enough to start dreaming.
The mind of one of the two, untethered and free, drifted up and away from the planet. It dreamt of infinite worlds connected by unstable rifts of chaotic energy. As it crossed through the barrier around the grey-blue planet, a shiver ran through the mind, and the dreams began filling with what was around its mind. The planet came, and then six more, and a massive ball of light and energy.
A cloud of energy particles, large enough to swallow all but one of the planets, drifted in from the blackness around the small solar system. Around its fringes were massive beings, entities of little intelligence that consumed the gaseous energy of the cloud. Like the krill eaters of old that had once roamed the now dusty and frozen seas of the planet, they swam through the cloud, their massive gaping maws sucking in anything in their path. Hidden around the edges were other beings. Smaller but still larger than anything on the planet, they hunted the gentle mammoths.

As one mind dreamt of space and monsters hunting the gentle energy grazers, the other too dreamt.
It wasn’t free to roam, however. During its life, it had connected itself to smaller beings, granting them conscious thought and the ability to grow. A web of lines connected its mind to those weaker beings. Some lines were thick and bright, cracks running all across them as if they were ready to burst and disappear. Others were thin and weak, seeming to need the connection to sustain themselves. This mind drifted along the lines, following them and hovering around the beings at the other end, watching, experiencing.
A thick cable connected the two beings, but it was dull and grey as if disconnected.
Neither of the two beings were conscious, and both just followed the instincts that had been ingrained in their minds.
Time passed, and the cloud of energy drifted through the solar system.
