Chapter 7

Dealing with Fire and Ice

Next Day, Fairy Tail Guild Hall

Naruto directly teleported to Magnolia and slept in his new house. As the day passed, he came to the guildhall in a lazy stroll. He saw everyone what he dubbed to be their regular positions and saw Erza missing.

'She might have gone on a Job' thought Naruto. He went to the bar table to greet the master and tell him about his mission.

"Ah, Naruto. I see you have completed that job already. How did it go" asked Makarov in a jovial mood?

"Nothing bad, they are easy, I guess" replied Naruto.

"How do you feel about it, Sirius"

"Good. Finally, I can do jobs and I test my magic on someone" said with a cat-like smile on his face.

"I can't fault you I guess," said Makarov.

"Can you report what happened?" asked Makarov in a stern tone. Understanding this is like some kind of Mission debriefing in the Shinobi World, Naruto took Makarov through all the 3 jobs he went to and explained them in as much detail as possible.

"Are you telling me the Dawn town job is S-class misranked because of their lack of funds?" asked Makarov incredulously. He knew sometimes things like this happen, but to misrank, an S-class job is not often. And Naruto dealt with it shows his strength as a mage.

'To fight an S-class mage without backup and a person like black skull is not easy. I don't think any non-experienced mages can handle him' thought Makarov. He remembered what Gildarts said about the kid. 'Seems like you are correct in bringing him to our Guild, Gildarts' thought the Old Master.

"It warms my heart to know that you came unharmed from an S-class job my child, but next time if something like this happens, I want you to contact me first. I don't want you to risk your life for a job" said Makarov concerned and sternly at the same time.

"Think about what could have happened to little Sirius. What I am saying is, don't risk your life like that, son" said Makarov. Generally, he won't admonish his children this much, even Natsu for all the destruction he causes. But when he saw Naruto, he got this feeling that this blonde is going to be even more trouble than the Pinkett could ever be. You can say he is following his gut. He doesn't want anything bad to happen to the new children he got on their first jobs. He got the same feeling he got 2 years ago about even more chaos and destruction.

Naruto internally smiled. 'It is perfect. The concern and fear for my life in the Old Man's eyes are unmistakable. Seems like I chose right' thought Naruto.

'Yes, Papa. You chose right. I saw that affection towards you only in that lizarts eyes' came the voice of Sirius.

'You are correct, Siri. Let's celebrate tonight on this occasion of finding the perfect Guild' said Naruto and Sirius mentally cheered.

"You have done well, my children. You can go now. If you find any job interesting, you can take them" said Makarov with a smile. Naruto and Sirius walked up to the request and went through all the job requests. He knew well that whatever request Naruto choose, it is going be dangerous. The blonde boy had a knack for it. He sat there, drinking his booze.

'Seems like Gildarts is right regarding his strength. Hmm, I don't want to stop such potential, yet I don't want throw him straight into S-class tests as they get dangerous. What to do, what to do' thought Makarov, scheming a plan to test the blonde boy.

He went through the current S-class requests which are on the dangerous end of things. He wanted to test Naruto one last time before pulling out the big guns. 'Hmm, A Dark Guild Extermination mission. It would be tough considering the number of mages they must deal with to exterminate them. From the reports, they are not that strong bunch. No, I want to test his intellect and nature. Hmm, this would be interesting' said Makarov and took a flyer out. On the Flyer was a big Unofficial stamp.

The Magic Council is made up of 10 members who do things rather shady. They take down what they deem a threat with no qualms and does whatever they seem fit. They give all the jobs to the Guilds and it consists of both Official and Unofficial jobs.

The current Job Makarov has is one such Unofficial Job that the Magic Council will deny they ever gave it. The job is an Espionage mission into the base of possible threats perceived by the Magic Council. They don't know what was happening there but knew this much that is not is nothing good.

'This is a dangerous mission and need more intellect than the power to come unharmed. Let's test him with this' thought Makarov and called Naruto to give the mission. What left unsaid is that he is going to follow the boy to make sure everything goes according to plan and to make sure Naruto is safe.

Naruto took the mission with a megawatt smile. His smile is contagious and Makarov smiled as well.

"Did you find something interesting on it, Naruto?" asked Makarov.

"No, Gramps. I think these kinds of missions suit me well, that's it. See ya" said and Naruto and went out of the Guild. He started walking towards the door when he felt eyes on him and saw a pair of eyes looking at him from the second-floor balcony.

He looked straight into those without flinching and there was a moment of a cold war between them. Naruto didn't budge not did the blonde guy on the second floor. After a second, he turned away with 'Hn' and Naruto smirked and made his way to the railway station.

"What is it all about," asked Sirius, confused. he didn't have much interaction with Humans other than his father. He doesn't know all their behaviour much yet.

"Nothing, it is just an assessment. He is assessing me and so I showed him my resolve" said Naruto and Sirius sighed. If you ask him his honest opinion about Humans he is going to say they are Crazy.

A month later

It's been a month since Naruto joined Fairy Tail and the blonde Maelstrom had managed to turn every expectation people put on him upside down. He did his job with Zero damage and made Makarov happier. Makarov was so happy that he started sending Natsu and Gray with him as if he is going to teach the kids a lesson or two.

Flashback, A week ago

"Gramps, I'm going to take this job," said Naruto gesturing to a job request in his hands. Makarov smiled at looking at the blonde boy who changed his family's reputation.

"Yes, Naruto, my boy. But I want you for another job" said Makarov gesturing to a pink-haired and bluish black-haired boy. Naruto got a wide smile on his face at that. Both Gray and Natsu had a chill run down their spine at that smile. It felt more sinister and dark than Erza's could ever be.

"Here is a request which is asking for combat mages. I want you to make sure these 2 behave and does less damage if such a thing is possible," said Makarov with a sigh. He had dealt with situations like these. When someone asks for strong young mages, his first thought goes to these 2 young mages. But because of their destructive tendencies and rivalry with each other, he couldn't send them together as there would be a lack of teamwork. Now with Naruto around, he hoped that these would at least behave themselves. Naruto took the job request and read throw it.

"The Bodyguard"

'Job Location: River Village

Job Description: A dark guild has threatened to destroy River Village if their candidate is not elected as Village Elder, and now that they've lost, they are vandalizing the homes of the townspeople. Destroy the guild, or make sure they never come back.

Reward: 150,000 jewels per member.

Taken/Untaken: Untaken'

Naruto smiled. 'A Dark Guild huh. A combat group will be enough to deal with them for sure' he thought and smiled at the Guild Master.

"Leave it to me, Gramps. Now, come on boys, move, we have a train to catch" said Naruto to the already sweating Gray and Natsu. They both had this feeling that this job with the blonde is not going to end well for them. Naruto with Sirius and Natsu with Happy and Gray went to the Magnolia station. Naruto saw his team. Gray, Natsu, Happy and of course his precious Sirius with them. It reminded him so much of his 'Team' when he was in the Shinobi World.

As they reached Magnolia Station, Naruto bought tickets with a big smile. As soon as the train started to move, Natsu fell on the bench between the seats, face first.

"Well, I think it is pretty serious," said Naruto in a flat tone about the motion sickness he heard and overcame about Dragon Slayers.

"You don't have any idea," said Gray.

"Leave him. Can I eat fish" asked Happy as he took out a fish from his bag?

"What is with you and fish always. Why don't you try Ramen sometime?" said Sirius.

"Ramen, yuck. No, I like fish" said Happy. Sirius got a vein popping on his face.

"What did you say, you fish cat," said Sirius.

"Ugh, I don't like trains" came the voice of Natsu in the fight between the cats.

"Ok, Siri. That is enough. We'll teach him how to eat Ramen and what it means to eat Ramen" said Naruto, promising pain to happy in his look with a torchlight being flashed on his head like a ghost.

"Aye, sir," said Happy in fear and Sirius smirked at that.

"Ok, now onto the plan," said Naruto and all the competent members nodded their heads.

"We are going to meet the villager and get briefed on the situation there," said Naruto.

"Then we get full details of what was going," said Gray.

"Ug-Ugh, I want land" came the groaned voice of Natsu that no one cared about.

"Right. Now that we have agreed that on what to do when we get there, we'll discuss the plan then" said Naruto and received nods from Gray, Sirius and Happy and a groan from Natsu.

'Hmm, should I heal him' thought Naruto? Healing him of the motion sickness is not a big deal but he can't be with Natsu every time he gets motion sickness.

'Nah. He'll either overcome it or get accustomed to it' he thought and silently continued on their journey.

"I hope we do less damage this time around. This moron has got gramps enough paperwork in his last job" said Gray out of the blue, gesturing to the green-faced Pinkett.

"Gr...Gray.. you bas-sterd. I'm gon-nna ki-kick yo-your bu-butt once we re-reach the sta-station" said Natsu.

"Ya, you be on that" replied Gray sarcastically.

"Leave that to me. That's the reason Gramps sent me with you. I'm gonna make sure you get a good experience from this" said Naruto with a smile. Gray didn't comment after that.

"Now we just wait," said Naruto and took a nap. The train journey is gonna take some time and so everyone relaxed. As they reached River Village, Natsu yelled in glee.

"Finally, Land. I missed you so much" said Natsu dramatically ans hugged the land affectionately.

"I don't think that is called affection. He just fell headfirst on the ground" said Sirius with a sigh.

"What, no, I like land so much than that useless train," said Natsu, annoyed about the moving vehicle.

"Ok boys, calm down. I think we have a job to do" said Naruto and they all nodded their heads. They asked for directions and reaches the house of the villager who gave them the job. He is a middle ages man wearing plain clothes.

"Are you the mages we have requested?" asked the man.

"Yes sir. My name is Naruto and these are my teammates. This is Sirius, Natsu, Happy and Gray. We are from Fairy Tail" said Naruto gesturing to each of them introducing them and showed his Guild mark as proof.

"Good. You are finally here. I don't want to be a judge that kids like you can do this, so I'll give you a chance" said the man and naruto nodded.

"Please come in. I'll debrief you about the situation" said the man and walked in. After serving tea to all of them, he started his explanation.

"The River village is small and peaceful. We hold elections every 5 years and choose an Elder. Generally, it would be the last one, but sometimes because of change in ideologies of people, well get a new elder. We held such elections last week. Our most hardworking had contested against the Elder who is in power for the last 20 years. However, there was an unprecedented occurrence this time" he said with a sigh.

"Thick Skull, a Dark Guild, headquartered just outside the village. We have some skirmishes with them but nothing major. But last week, soon after we elected our new Elder, one of their members stormed into a village with a message" he said and took an envelope. There was a white skull stamp on it with the skull smiling creepily.

"The letter said that the Guild Master should be elected as the new Leader or else they will take control of the village and people. Please help us" asked the man with hope.

"Alright, Old man. Consider it done. We'll do it" said Natsu stretching his hands and popping his joints.

"Aye, sir" agreed Happy. Naruto bonked both of them.

"Hey, what is that for" protested Natsu while Happy went to a corner and rubbed the bump on his head.

"You moron. Whom are you gonna fight, walls? You don't know anything about this Guild but their address and it might not be true. There might be traps. The village is surrounded by forests. If you use your fire recklessly, the trees around might catch fire and you would be the cause of a forest fire. Think before you jump to conclusions" chastized Naruto. Natsu cried comically.

"Ya, tell him like that," said Gray in unison.

"And where are your clothes, genius?" asked Naruto with a raised eyebrow. Gray looked down and only his boxers remain on his body.

"Damn, I lost them again," said Gray and started searching for his clothes.

"Ok, sir. But the job says that there is a bodyguard mansion in it" asked Naruto.

"Well, um. That was given before we got the letter from the Guild. But now we want them removed from here"

"Ok, you can rest easy. I and my friends will take care of them. No problem" said Naruto and saw only Gray and Sirius behind him. There was no trace of Natsu.

"That Moron," his magic burst, cracking the ground below.

"I'm in a hurry. Talk to you later" said Naruto and ran towards the village exit.

"Siri, carry Gray and follow me," said Naruto shot into the air like a bullet. With a resounding boom, he was gone. The village member was left astonished at the display of power.

In the forest around River Village

Natsu was seen smiling widely. He skillfully escaped that newbie with ease. He is going to take care of this dark Guild and help the village. Happy was taking him in the direction the villager pointed at high speeds as he had a suspicion that the blonde newbie is gonna catch up to him. As he was flying above the forest to locate a building, he heard a boom and turned around.

There, he saw his death. Naruto was coming towards him, fast. He didn't have anyone carrying him but he was flying at speeds that Natsu can barely keep up with his eyes.

"YOU MORON" came the defining voice of Naruto and Natsu felt a strong grip on his head. Soon, his head hit the ground, hard. He felt unbearable pain through his skull and a ringing in his ears.

Naruto didn't do anything. He just pulled out a paper and stuck it to Natsu and Natsu felt his body paralyse. In addition to that, Naruto put a blue liquid around Natsu, restricting his movement. Happy also got the same punishment, his bag of fish taken away from him and tied up.

"What are 2 idiots thinking running away like that. Didn't I tell you to wait? What if something happened to you morons. What should say to Master, sorry master, those 2 dumb fools ran off and got killed or injured? Didn't I tell you just now, think before you act, Natsu" scolded Naruto his anger subsiding. Gray landed beside Sirius carrying him down.

"What are you thinking, fire brain. Didn't Naruto tell we don't have complete information and he told you to think before you act?" said Gray. Natsu felt foolish for acting dumb for the first time. This is different when compared to Erza. She would beat him alright but doesn't explain like this clearly. If she finds she is mistaken, she asks them to punish her which they are scared to do. But this newbie seemed different to him and there is something mysterious about him that Natsu couldn't put his finger on. Well, right now he is going to apologise and kick-ass a Dark Guild ass.

"Ok, man. I'm sorry. I'll try to do it next time" said Natsu with a grin all his pain and injuries healed somehow. He didn't pay much attention.

"Now untie me, I'm gonna kick a Dark Guild ass," he said with a toothy smile.

"Oh, he is asking to untie," said Sirius with a wide smile.

"That's not happening, buddy. For the stunt you pulled, you are going to be bound and watch as we enjoy all the fun" said Naruto with a creepy smile. Natsu's face turned pale as a sheet.

"B-bu-but. I want to have some fun" said Natsu.

"Hehehehehehehe" laughed Naruto and the blue liquid around him tightened and Natsu was taken into the air.

"Hey, what's this. Leave me" he shouted to no avail.

"That's one problem taken care of," said Gray and turned to Naruto. The blonde is definitely different compared to Erza alright.

"Now, Gray. We are near the headquarters and we are going do this the old fashion way" said Naruto.

"You mean-"

"Barge from the front door and boom. Natsu gave me some pent up anger to deal with his stunt" said Naruto with a smile.

"Now you are taking my language," said Gray and they approached the clearing where there was a small 2 storey building. Sirius transformed into his battle mode and followed the 2. Happy and Natsu were floating in the sky, their body bound and their mouths stuffed. All they can do is watch. Naruto and Gray approached the clearing cautiously.

'Hmm, there are 30 of them and 15 are D-rank, 10 C-rank, 4 B-rank and 1 A-rank. D-rank is easy, I'll deal with A and B while Sirius and Gray can deal with C and D. As they are high in numbers that would keep them busy' thought and Naruto and explained his plan to his comrades. With smiles, they jumped in.

Naruto made a barrier around the perimeter to not let anyone escape out. He will make sure everything is dealt with. With a bang of an Explosion Note, they entered, gaining all the attention of the Guild.

"Oh, seems like we have intruders," said one of them.

"Probably haired by those villagers," said another man. They waited patiently for the smoke to clear. What they saw shocked them. There are 2 kids with a large Tiger standing with them.

"Huh, it's 2 kids and a Tiger," said the man but before he could get any response, a kick to his face, sending throw the wall.

"What did you say, your toothpick. I'm a Jaguar, not Tiger" roared Sirius and started to beat the man and all the guild members saw it awe-struck.

One of the stronger men saw it. 'Why the idiots seeing it as a spectacle' and he roared his orders.

"What are you shits doing, kill them" came to the voice of a pig-faced man. They all charged and the group divided. Before anything could happen,

"Katsu" came the voice of the blonde boy.

"BBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM" a large explosion rocked the building. Naruto blew the whole building up with Explosive Tags. He had a big smile on his face after that.

"Man, it has been long since I destroyed something. I think I should apologise to Gramps after this. Nah, I don't care" he said and with a face splitting smile, he charged towards his targets.

The floating Natsu and Happy saw the destruction the blonde boy did without anything large.

"Wow. It looks amazing" said Natsu.

"Aye, sir," said Happy. Natsu swallowed all the flames formed due to the exclusion.

"Yack. Paper, rocks and ink. What is this?" asked a confused Dragon Slayer to no one.

Naruto was kicking the hell out of his opponents. Those 5 used to be a team in another Dark Guild and they left it and formed a new guild now. Each of them can use one element.

"Fire Ball"

"Water Bullet"

"Air Slash"

"Rock Golem"

"Lightning Bolt" came to the 5 attacks from all 5 mages.

"Pierce," said Naruto and all the attacks were pierced and a Light needle went straight to the Mages who cast it. They couldn't escape it as it is very fast.

"Ice Make-Lance," said Gray and lances made of Ice attached his opponents and struck them.

"Wind Style- Great Breakthrough," said Sirius and large gusts of wind blew his opponents away.

As the other mages have fallen victim to the attack as well and are unconscious, Naruto walked up to the Guild Master, the pig face.

"Ok, pig face, here is the deal. Either you and your buddies run or I will feed you to the animals around here" said Naruto.

"We'll leave" came the whimpering answer of the pig face and all the conscious ones took their fallen brethren and scrammed from there.

"That was some fun," said Sirius.

"No kidding. Even though they are weak, they have numbers" said Gray and Sirius and Naruto nodded. Naruto brought Natsu and Happy towards him and unbound them.

"Man, that was amazing. It would have been more fun if I joined as well" said Natsu.

"Ya. The forest would have been completely burnt to ashes"

"What did you say, ice freak"

"You heard me, fire-lizard" Both of them were butting heads and veins popping on their foreheads.

"Hmm, what to play with. A pink lizard or an Ice freak" came Naruto's voice. His face was cackling madly with a Devil behind him.

"Nothing here, sir," said Gray.

"Yes, yes. Nothing here" chorused Natsu.

"What about you, Cat," said Naruto to the blue cat.

"Aye, aye. Nothing here as well" said Happy and saw Naruto didn't budge.

"Ramen is good" shouted Happy in fake realisation.

"Hmm, looks like there's nothing here," he said and Naruto changed into normal.

"Now guys, let's get back to the village," said Naruto and all of them started walking towards the village.

"Hey, Naruto. What kind of Water is it. It held firm against my fire" asked Natsu curiously.

"Naruto didn't use water on you," said Sirius.

"Huh, I thought it was some kind of water for sure," said a confused Natsu.

"Speaking of it, you didn't tell us what your magic is," said Gray in realisation.

"Well, it is water. It is Light" said Naruto making a Light Sword.

"Light. Wow" said Gray.

"Amazing, man," said Natsu.

"Aye, sir," said Happy.

"The light I bound with you is a special one as it paralysis the individual and won't break whatever you do," said Naruto and Natsu and Gray got amazing looks.

They reached and got paid for their job as the destruction didn't hit the village and the forest seemed the same for them. Naruto and the group reached out of the village. Before they walk to Train Station Naruto spoke.

"Ok, guys. As I completed the job and got paid even with you tagging along, I'm going to give you a treat" said Naruto. Natsu and Happy were staring star eyes at their share of cash in awe.

"Poor fire brain, I don't remember when he last saw this much cash," said Gray and Naruto and Sirius nodded in agreement.

"Here is the deal, boys. We are going to fly back to Magnolia" said Naruto.

"Huh, what is new in it, Happy will always help me if we want to fly back to Magnolia," said Natsu unsurprised.

"There he goes interrupting people again," said Gray and before another quarrel could start, Naruto started explaining.

"Not like that, Natsu. I'm telling of flying yourself without any support" and he got the desired reaction.

He used Earth Style: Body Light Weight Jutsu on them and they all started to float. Naruto explained the basics about flying like this and they flew home happily. Not aware of the Trials the Old Master had out for him.
