So, with Noruhito being published for a couple weeks already, I thought it'd be best to outline what this series is about and my aims for it.
Obviously, as the story description says, it is a story of students training to be Khai sorcerers at the mythical Noruhito Academy in the Himalayas. The story primarily follows Spencer Jackson, though many other Khai sorcerers and characters play key roles in the story. It is about training to become stronger, forging bonds between companions and mentors alike, and working together to defeat a greater evil. To achieve their goals, the trainee sorcerers must work together to defeat the nefarious Qualms and their Manifestations!
And now onto the really interesting bit of this post: my aims. Well, what are my aims? My aims can be simplified to: I want to make a long-running series with a colourful cast of characters to create a story in which readers have a "warm" and "cosy" feeling as they read. I'll go through this aim in a bit more detail, focussing on key aspects with each paragraph.
Firstly, "long-running series". The obvious thing to note with this is that readers should not expect the story to be done in less than fifty chapters, or even a hundred. This is a story meant to last a while (maybe to the point where I may have to introduce "essential reading lists" or summaries to keep new readers up to date - but that's a long way off at this point). This story is meant to be long-term and meant to show how these trainees develop over time, how their bonds are strengthened, and how they may fail or prevail together.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Secondly, you may have noticed I described this novel as a "series", as opposed to simply a "book". Now, dear reader, I assure you, that is not a typo. Rather, it is very intentional. You see, I don't view this work as a singular "book" or a "novel", but a series of interconnected chapters, to be read like a comic or a manga. Indeed, the story's structure may be reminiscent of certain comics or mangas (particularly those such as The Walking Dead or Jujutsu Kaisen), whereby the story will be comprised of "narrative arcs" (individual stories told over multiple chapters) and "episodes" (where the story begins and ends in one or two chapters).
Moving on, I now go to "colourful cast of characters", which I will touch upon only briefly, as it is fairly self-explanatory. All I will say is expect the unexpected. Expect cool and calm characters, sure, but also expect zany and quirky characters that make you say, 'What the heck?' You should also expect a fairly large cast of recurring characters too. At the moment, I am in the middle of writing the fifth chapter, and there are six major characters (including Spencer) and one secondary/tertiary character. Of course, with only a small number of words written of the series so far, some of these major characters have not become particularly major as yet, though I have plans for them down the line. Who knows where the story may go?
Lastly, addressing the "warm" and "cosy" feelings readers will - I hope - experience as they read Noruhito. You will, I hope, thoroughly enjoy following the stories' of these characters over the next however long I spend writing about them (forever I hope haha). This is a long series which I hope will bring joy and a safe space for readers of all kinds.
