Chapter 1 - A Beginning

Chapter 1

Some men believe that evil only exists in the hearts of men, that the devil is not real. Contrary to those beliefs, evil exists outside the realm of understanding that me live within. For men live with a conscious world, unable to tap into the world of the unconscious, spirits, ghouls and other apparitions live within this world, shrouded in a veil that cannot be easily penetrated.

James Winston a man of many mysteries, had found himself persecuted by the council of his village. This was a small village found nestled at the edge the western side of a massive forest the villagers called, "Diablo Bosque" though it's true name has been obscured throughout centuries of isolation from everything east of the forest. Due to the monsters and various fiends that infested its regions.

The village had come under scrutiny from the numerous townships and cities situated further to its west. There were reports of travelers missing as they made their way to the forest. For a period of six months, there has been rumors of a beast located close to the edges of the forest, this naturally brought many hunters and thrill seekers, all vying to become renowned throughout the villages.

An investigation was lunched into these disappearances, by the council members after coming under pressure by the mayors and various leaders of the surrounding settlements. Some villagers had found on numerous occasions, that seemed to belong to different humans, mixed around with the bones of various other creatures. It was apparent from the condition of the bones, that they were gnawed at. There were signs of the remains being violated, after they were killed.

Hushed voices were filling the village, as the villagers whispered amongst themselves, trying to deduce the identity of the one who defiled the corpses. The looked at each other with untrusting eyes, each expectant that they would be next on the list of the dead. James, one the other hand looked at this scene with a gleefully expression, he had never thought that the village would have fallen so far, so quickly.

James was born different. He found that he lacked the basic principles and feelings that set humans apart from beasts. He began to think of himself as a beast. Spending his days pretending, to be "normal" whenever in the view of the public eye, but he would venture into the forest, away from the prying eyes of the villagers. Here he would find some defenseless creatures he could "play" with. And so he would do every day, for fifteen years, slowly escalating the violence and brutality in which he release upon the creatures of the forest. He would then bury the corpses to cover his tracks.

When he had turned sixteen, James found that he no longer found enjoyment in his games he played. He would have to find a new game or he would die from boredom, so he set upon going deeper into the forest than he had ever ventured before. Killing larger and stronger creatures, sometimes even eating their flesh. He was truly becoming more of a beast than man.
