3 - Old Clans

“Nice office Alpha.”

“You might’ve noticed that it’s pretty empty around here. I’ve sent most of the pack to a safe house location. Only the warriors and counsel are left here. We were securing the perimeter when we felt you trespassing on our land. Hope you didn’t mind us checking a potential threat.”

“Nope. No problem here. Now moving on, what do you want from us?”

“Alpha Ference Jolin,” he said, holding out his hand for a handshake with a glint of mischief in his eyes.

“Lead Warrior and current acting alpha Lisa Sole,” I said, accepting his hand and returning his gaze.

I guess a moment too long had passed when we were snapped out of each other’s scent by his beta clearing his throat.

“Well then, what do you need from Country Moon Alpha Jolin.”

“You can call me Fern. And truthfully, what we needed was help getting back up. Anything that you can teach us would be great. We would also like help in perimeter searching. We are currently unsure if there will be a follow up attack.”

“There will be. But don’t worry about that. From what I’ve seen, you’ve wiped out most of the important ones. We’ll need to make a further treaty between us to iron out what Country Moon is allowed to know about New Moon. Only then can we truly help you.”

“I’m assuming you’re referring to the book.”

“You’re not assuming. You’re correct.”

“Hah… What do you know about the book Lisa?”

“Would you like to discuss it with everyone else present?”

“… Clear the room. No one but us.”

“Sheryl, Kyle. Start them on perimeter.”

After hearing the door shut behind us, “Clan?” I asked, sitting down on the chair in front of his desk.

“And yet you’re a warrior?”

“Well it’s none of your business.”

“No, not right now. But it will be soon.”

“Too bad soon isn’t now. Clan?”

“Isn’t it obvious?”

“Clever. Never understood the purpose of naming the old clans after moon phases though.”

“Not as clever as you Eclipse. What made you drop the ‘il’?”

“Always a pleasure to talk with an intellect. And to answer your question – got tired of people thinking we were French.”

“You’re not?”

“A conversation for another time.”

“But really, what is royalty doing here?”

“Then I must ask, what is the prime minister doing here?”

“A conversation for another time then.”

“Of course. For another time.”

“Well getting back on track, Eve has renounced herself from the pack and is therefore unable to access the book.”

“Temporarily of course.”

“But they don’t know that. At least that is what we assume. However, I have a suspicion that since they’re going after all the old clans. Either someone has betrayed us or has found out something about us and they want to use that. Opinions?”

“It’s common knowledge old clans were generally more powerful. It’s also common knowledge that the family book holds our family power. But all the specifics are only accessible to those who have the book and belong to the family. The fact that they know only the descendants blood will reveal the book doesn’t mean much. Afterall, something like that is pretty cliché and inferable. There is still the mysterious coincident that you were away at alpha camp. For an attack from them, it’s honestly a surprise that they’ve missed you. Unless it was intentional. To be honest, I feel they know a lot more then they led on. After all, you know what happens to a book with no blood descendants left. I have no doubt in my mind that someone has betrayed us. The problem is how much do they know. I would assume they know everything common knowledge to us old clans and maybe a few secrets from each clan. Take care to not reveal anything else. For now, focus the pack. Does your counsel know?”

“Yes, they know we’re the first seat of the old clans. They’re trained on those responsibilities too.”

“Very well. Keep an eye out. I’ll be gathering the Time soon.”

“If you don’t mind me asking, Alpha Klude?”

“Country Moon was a royal safe house. I sure you know what that means.”

“My suspicion was right.”
