Opening his eyes for the first time, a newborn baby boy was greeted with two blue screens, so commonly used in RPGs. Having had seen those blue screens, before even realizing he has been born again, he started to wonder exactly what they could mean?

Reincarnation? Is that even a thing?

And at that, more than 10,000 times…

What about the World System? Is that the same as an ecosystem but on a larger scale?

Various questions and combinations of questions circled through the newborns brain but before long, his brain couldn’t take all the activity anymore and put the baby to sleep.

However, he forgot to discover one thing. No longer is he the same person as he was before. No longer is he even on the same planet his memories believe him to still be on. All because of the confusion brought by those two blue screens.

Hours later the newborn boy opens his eyes for the second time. Not being shown the blue screens from earlier, he decided to look around.

First he sees the ceiling, sky blue paint calming him down a little… he moves on to the walls and everything in-between. However, he discovers that moving his head to either side is more difficult than he can recall. Not being able to see the rest of the room like he wanted, panic starts to set in. But for a newborn body, experiencing a new emotion and a negative one at that, causes something that the baby boy to has yet to realize about his current state of affairs.

WWWAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! WA WA WAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

A second or three after he heard the sound of a crying baby, it finally clicked.

The blue screen from the first time mentioned something about reincarnation. Which means rebirth, renewal. Starting a new life in a new place, with a new identity…. Everything is new. He’s no longer what or who he believes he is. He’s a newborn baby with a new family and a new home. Furthermore, he’ll have to relearn how to walk, talk and not to mention common sense. What if his common sense doesn’t match the common sense of this world?

What if— before he could even finish his trail of thought, two large and slender hands appear from above.

The pair of hands seem to be reaching towards him and eventually surrounding his newborn figure in order to lift him upwards. Following the upward motion, for the first time since figuring out that he couldn’t move his head any more than that of a newborn baby. He sees the rest of the room, in which he’s currently inhabiting. The walls, much like the ceiling, are the same sky blue and then there are multiple little beds, from the size of them they look to be only for newborns, littering the floor in neat rows of four to five beds across and six down.

The pair of large and slender hands eventually led the newborn to the large face of a lady in her late thirties to early forties. With brunette hair pulled neatly back into a bun and a small white hat placed on the top of her head. At the end of his ascent he comes face to face with her, only to stare into her hazel eyes for but a moment, before she brings him over to what looks to be a glass cylinder with two seamless white metal endings and slowly places him down. Being gently placed within the glass cylinder, he started to struggle as much as possible because who wouldn’t be afraid of being placed into an unknown glass cylinder by a lady dressed in white.

Seeing the glass cylinder smoothly closing up, he realized that all hope of getting out of this cylinder went from 0.001% to 0%. Once the glass cylinder closed, the lady in white moved her hands to either side of the white metal ends. Her fingers started to move similar to that of someone typing on a screen. But for the life of his newborn eyes he could not make out what exactly she was typing on.

After being in the glass cylinder for a time, he started to suddenly feel sleepy, because he after all is still a newborn baby and all that’s happened in the last minute or two has been very taxing on his little baby brain.

After the new born infant calmed down and seemed to have fallen asleep, the nurse who stood outside of the glass cylinder started the medical scan on the baby boy. Multiple lights came streaming out of both ends of the glass cylinder and begin to scan the baby.

This process was done some hours after the birth of a child, when the mother is currently going through the initial stages and processes of postnatal care.

The nurse, or as the newborn boy identified her as the lady in white, loved being in charge of these infants during the times when their mothers had to focus on other things. She could feel the most innocent of emotions and scarce thoughts of these newborn children. Well at least for a couple of hours or so.

However, this current infant is almost ready to be brought back to his loving family. Just this last medical scan for the hospital’s records and he can go back to the loving arms of his mother. Hoping, like she does with all of the other infants that pass through this room, that this new soul will have a fulfilling and loving life. Regardless of the results on the scan.

The medical scan only took about a minute to complete before the results showed up on the holographic screen floating above the glass cylinder.

[Infant Medical Scan Complete: Results]

[Patient Name: Atlas Hardison]         [Gender: Male]

[Species: Homo sapien]          [Age: 7.25 hours old]

[Date of Birth: Theogorous 8th 37195 LC]         [Planet of Origin: Lunavarra]

[Genetic Status: No Anomalies Detected]

[Health Status: No Anomalies Detected]

[Body Structural Status: Complete, 1 Anomaly Detected]

Unlike the blue screens that the newborn saw when he first opened his eyes. This screen is being projected from the two sides of the glass cylinder and can be viewed by anyone with the appropriate credentials.

Looking at the screen in front of her, the nurse slides in a small oval shaped pendant into one of the metal ends of the glass cylinder. Next a loading bar appears in front of the Infant Medical Scan results and upon completion, the pendant pops back out of the metal ending.

Attaching the pendant to a chain, the nurse waits until the glass cylinder opens up before retrieving the baby and placing the pendant around his neck. Walking out of the nursery, the nurse starts leading the sleeping newborn from the room and towards his parents in a room just down the hall.

Awaiting inside of a room, like any other of the multiple rooms lining the corridor of a hospital, a young couple can be seen. A man is perched on the side of a hospital bed leaning his back against the pillows with his right arm around his wife. And the wife, glad that the delivery of her newborn boy was successful, is relaxing and recovering in the loving arms of her husband.

Now the couple is just waiting in anticipation to see their newborn child again. Just remembering the face of their newborn child, the young woman is filled with joy. Looking at the face of her husband with the same goofy grin she’s had on her face when the baby was first shown to them, she cannot wait for the nurses and doctors to be finished with their tests so they can take their baby to his new home.

Missing the sound of the door being opened by a nurse carrying an infant wrapped in a soft baby blue blanket. The wife notices her husband isn’t staring at her face anymore, following his line of sight she sees what drew his attention elsewhere. The smiling wife spots a nurse carrying her son towards them. Reaching out with her arms, the wife waits until the nurse places her child into her arms before looking back at her husband with that same goofy grin as before. As the nurse departs from the room infant-less, the doctor, who has been with the couple throughout the whole ordeal, walks in and approaches the couple in silence. Letting them absorb every millisecond they can with their newborn child.

Having the couple finally acknowledge his presence, the doctor started to give the standard speech he would always give to the parents of a newborn baby. “Hello there Mr. and Mrs. Hardison, N—” but before he could finish the first statement, like always one of the parents would interrupt, “Oh no! Dr. Frankston, there’s no need to be so formal with us. After all you did such a fine job at delivering our baby Atlas to us. Calling us by our first names is more than appropriate!” says the goofily smiling wife. And with a heavy mental sigh, Dr. Frankston continues on from where he was cut off, “Now, Jenn and Marcus, your baby boy Atlas was born without any major irregularities. However, if you open up the pendant around the baby’s neck” waiting for the couple to do as he instructed, they turn on the pendant and start to view the same holographic screen that the nurse saw while the newborn boy was in the Infant Medical Scanner.

With both parents looking at the holographic screen being projected by the pendant, the father of the boy is the first to notice the last line of words; Body Structural Status: Complete, 1 Anomaly Detected. Looking up at Dr. Frankston, Marcus says “One Anomaly Detected, but Dr. Frankston I thought you said that there wasn’t any major anomalies found in Atlas?” Seeing as how Mr. Hardison asked the question before Dr. Frankston could say it himself, stealing his thunder as it were. He replied, “Good visual and listening skills there Marcus! You are correct in what I said earlier about Atlas being born with no major anomalies. However, our medical scan has shown us that Atlas has been born with slightly larger blood vessels size than that of the average blood vessels size of an infant. Now, I can see the worried faces that you are currently making. But rest assured that when I said ‘slightly larger than the average’ I mean that it’s only 0.0023% larger than average. And cannot even be considered as a minor anomaly. Our medical A.I. has confirmed that as Atlas grows up his slightly larger than average blood vessels will become the average size and if they don’t than them being slightly larger than average shouldn’t affect Atlas in any way, physically or medically.”

Letting the parents soak in what they have just been told, Dr. Frankston remembers a time when it came to talking to the parents the day they’d take home their child. It was so much simpler, all he had to say was that the baby had a clean bill of health, the parents would smile at him and then be on their way. Now he has to explain the smallest of anomalies to them, which if this was the past it wouldn’t have even been mentioned. Such a tiring ordeal, thought Dr. Frankston.

Now a days, everything regarding the potential future of a person started the moment they were born. The amount of anomalies and the wealth of a family went hand in hand.

For example, if a newborn was found to have a combination of more than 3 major anomalies or 30 minor anomalies in any of the three field shown by the infant medical scan. Then that baby would only be able to live a mediocre life within a high-middle class family and if they had the wealth to cure all of the irregularities then his life would improve to a certain degree, but if the baby belong to any family under that class… Well let’s just say that the potential future of said infant will be reduced by 50-75% based on the amount, type and degree of anomalies present, in addition to their family’s wealth.

However, for baby Atlas to have been born with the smallest of minor anomalies is a blessing for his parents, since they are of the low-middle class and his potential is only limited now by his family status, academic achievements and planetary status.

Although the statistics listed above seem severe, they are only for that of the 2ndtier Planets like Lunavarra and 4th tier Terra Stations.

2nd tier Planets are the second highest tier of inhabitable planets. On these planets, the highest ranking one would see in the class system are of a middle-nobility class, which is six ranks above the high-middle class mentioned above. But on 1st tier Planets and Terra stations every rank within the class system can be seen, though depending on the solar system or galaxy the usually outlawed class of slaves can also be seen.

After both Marcus and Jenn finished thinking over what the doctor had just told them about their baby’s anomaly, they could only smile inside for it truly was a joyous occasion. To have been blessed with their first born child that had the smallest of irregularities and at that, one that should in time remedy itself was amazing.

Realizing the financial release of future medical bills, if Atlas had been born with major anomalies that they no longer have. The couple through a form of silent communication that they have developed over the years of being deeply in love with one another, agree that they will not waste a single resource in making sure that this child of theirs grows up with the most potential that they can muster.

Looking at the doctor after the silent agreement with his wife, Marcus asks, “Well, if what you and the A.I. said are true than we have no more worries regarding our baby boy! So I guess we can start to sign the release papers and set the appointment for the postnatal treatment as well, right?”

Seeing that the Hardison’s have decided it’s time to leave the hospital, Dr. Frankston walks towards the end of the patient’s bed and took out a seamless white metal tube the length of an adult hand. Booting up the device by pressing one of the ends of the tube, a holographic screen is projected along the length of the tube.

Handing the device to the couple they see the form outlined in the holographic screen beside the tube. Using his fingers the husband activates the keypad holographic screen and begins to fill in the discharge forms. Every once in a while the wife would apply some of her input towards the form, since she was too focused on the infant she’s carrying in her arms it wasn’t all that often.

With the forms done and being processed, the couple started to pack all their belongings away into their small individual digital storage chips at the base of their skulls. Every resident with the class rank of middle and above can afford even the cheapest digital storage chips, these chip allow one to carry around a certain amount of items inside a digitally created space with them at all times. They can take out items at their leisure or put them inside. However, there are certain constrictions depending on the model and holding capacity of the chip.

The ones located behind the left ear and under the skin of both Marcus and Jenn are only able to hold the common everyday items people carry around and an overnight bags worth of things, depending on the person. These chips can also have restrictions, like how civilians cannot put weapons of any kind into their personal storage devices unless they have a license to carry a weapon. Or they cannot carry hazardous biological and chemical agents unless they have a PhD in a related field with a license to carry said material.

Suffice to say, the Hardison’s didn’t have much to pack into their individual digital storage chips and exited the room.

Patiently waiting outside the room is Dr. Frankston and having watched the couple exit the room, he comes over to give his personal farewell and wishes to the new family.

And with that Atlas Hardison leaves Polaris City District Hospital No. 5 with his new mother and father.

Coincidentally, during the time from when the nurse did the infant medical scan on Atlas to the point where he left the hospital with his new parents. Atlas wasn’t asleep the whole time as the narrative would have lead you to believe. No, after the nurse removed him from the chamber of the glass cylinder Atlas woke up to the nurse carrying him down the hallway, towards his parents.

Waking up and noticing he was in the arms of the lady in white, the newborn decided not to struggle lease she dropped him. Instead he chose to observe his constantly moving and changing surroundings. He made little noises here and there as a normal baby would do, and to be honest most of them were out of his control. From his observations thus far, the infant felt like what he was seeing could compare to something in his past life, but it was on the tip of his little baby tongue. And watching as the lady in white reached what seemed to be his new destination, the infant was shown into the room of a young couple.

One, a young female, was laying down in a hospital bed wearing a hospital gown. She looked to be around twenty-two to twenty-five in age, had a dark shade of red-orange hair in a single braid placed over her shoulder and her skin would have been lightly tanned with a splash of freckles, if it weren’t for a slightly pale complexion at the moment. The other one individual was male, slightly older than the female but not by much, could be seen sitting beside the female with his arm wrapped around her shoulder. He had short dark brown hair and his green eyes were staring at the newborn. Watching as the head of the young female go slowly from the man and towards the newborn, it finally clicked. He was in a hospital and the lady in white was actually a nurse! Which means that the couple occupying this room were his mother and father. As his thought concluded, the nurse had already handed the newborn over to his mother.

Looking at both his mother and father, he notices that unlike the words he saw on the blue screens from earlier the sounds they are making are different and don’t sound like those letters at all.

But he’s not too worried about that at the moment, no, instead he’s looking at both his new parents and wondering what exactly was in-store for him. Even though the newborn was lost in thought and felt that the world was on hold while he thought things through, a third voice joined that of his parents. This new arrival, like the nurse, was dressed in all white and lacking the signature white hat that was atop the nurse’s head, had finished walking across the room and was standing near the end of the bed.

After who knows how long, the boy believes, the man in the white coat was talking to his parents about something significant. For there was at one point, his father was sounding desperate to fully understanding something the man in white said. Followed by a sigh of relief from both his parents when they finally understood and confirmed whatever situation the man in white was explaining.

Soon after that the boy fell asleep. So many things were introduced, heard, watched and felt that all of his newborn senses needed a break once again.

Blissfully sleeping in the arms of his mother, young Atlas leaves the hospital none the wiser of how different he and his new world truly are.
