4. Masked Man

I awaken in my dugout in a cold sweat. Just a nightmare, praise God! Suddenly though I find a silhouette of a man standing over me. The candle dimly displays scant features but I can make out very little. The rain splatters the roof of my dugout making water drip from the ceiling. Then in a flash of lightning I see the man holding a large trench knife the bright red blood dripping from the blade. My heart races! My eyes narrow! For now see its from a whisp of the flame, its a German soilder! I jump to my feet, my stomach nauseous, my heart beating faster then what I could believe possible. He raises his knifed hand the blade pointed downward.

In a rash quick decision, I tackle the assailant slamming him in to the wall. I wrestle the blade from his hand and it drops to the floor. I wrap my hands around his throat and apply all the pressure I could manage. His face cloaked by a gas mask, He grabs for my hands pushing them upward. I grab the bottom of the mask and rip it off his face. To my shock I find he has no face, no expression! No eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, nothing but flesh!

I jump back in complete horror utterly terrified by this abomination for I am now paralyzed with fear. The faceless assailant takes advantage of this new found freedom and retrieves his knife and lounges at me plunging the blade deep in to my heart. The sharp burning pain envelopes my chest my sight grows dim. my end is near. I feel the blood pouring from my wound its wet sensation flowing down my chest.

He retracts his blade the sharping pain increases. I find I can no longer keep my self up right. I fall to the floor on my side. darkness encroaches my vision. My body feels cold. My breath is fading. So weak, I lie in a pool of my own blood. There in the entrance the silent faceless stranger watches emotionlessly. I no longer can feel my body. The darkness closes to black.
