Chapter 6

Dear Diary,

I think my world has just been turned upside down.

"Why exactly do you need my help?" I asked Caden. "If you are King then I would think all your situations would be handled."

"If this was only a vampire situation it would be."

"What do you mean?" My curiosity got the best of me.

"I'm sure you're aware that vampires have been deciding whether or not they should make themselves known to the general public. In fact, most of the paranormal communities have been debating this for quite some time."

"I'm aware."

"It seems that some of us think that the time to come out is now. My kingdom has been threatened. Someone wants the southern vampires to pave the way for supernatural freedom."

"And this is my problem how?" I asked.

"My kingdom isn't the only thing that has been threatened. All southern humans have been threatened as well. The rise in local ferals isn't just happening in this community. It is happening across the south. My territory starts in Texas and spans the entire southeastern part of the country. I'm getting reports from all my sheriffs in all states."

I had no words for Caden's report. Could I seriously turn down his plea for help after hearing his confession? I, of course, had to check in with my fellow slayers and see if his story syncs up. If it does there is no way I can not help him. The only problem I have is not really knowing what I can do to help aside from taking out my share of ferals.

"Do you have a phone charger? I'll need to check in with a few people see if what you're sayin' is true," I said.

"Then I'll have your help?"

I nodded. I just had one more question.

"Are the ferals bein' made?"

"I believe so," Caden said. "I believe my enemy is pulling random people and forcing them to be feral. There is no way that many vampires have gone feral in this short amount of time. It wouldn't take long for a newborn to turn."

I nodded at Caden yet again and asked for a phone charger. He let me know that someone would bring me one up shortly. He then excused himself to attend to more business. I guess a feral infiltration would keep a king pretty busy.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

It wasn't long before Butler Boy brought me said charger and I got my phone up and going again. Caden didn't mention anything about me having a phone. I wasn't sure if this was just some sort of over-look on his part or if he just didn't think that I could use it to get away. I went with the second choice.

I turned my phone on and immediately got several texts from Dean. I ignored them all and went right to call him. It would be faster now that I didn't have to worry about someone confiscating my possessions.

Dean answered on the second ring.

"Livvy? You okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine I--"

Dean interrupted me, "Are you safe? Where are you? Do you know where you're at? Do you still need help?"

"Dean, I'm fine. Now listen. Have you noticed an increase in ferals lately? Has anyone else?"

"Well, yeah seems I have. I took out 4 last night all by myself."

I asked him a few more questions like how many ferals he's killed over the last week and if he has got confirmation from anyone else about the rise in feral count. When I finished my call with him I called the other slayers that I knew were currently in the south and asked about the ferals in their area. Every single slayer that I contacted agreed that there seemed to be an odd number of ferals. That that was how they spent most of their nights. This was indeed rare because we didn't just handle the vampire community. Slayers are kind of like the unofficial police for the whole supernatural world.

I had a lot of questions for Caden and decided that I was tired of waiting for him to come back to my room to get them answered. I left my room and made sure that the door was wide open just in case Caden came looking for me before I made it back. If I was lucky I'd run into Butler Boy. That way he could direct me to Caden's whereabouts. This was probably the first and last time that I hoped I ran into Butler Boy.

I eased my way down the stairs and kept walking until I found a sitting room. Caden was facing a window holding a phone to his ear. It must have been important because he didn't turn as I walked into the room. He was powerful enough to have heard me approach. Now was as good a time as any to eavesdrop a little. I didn't even try to hide what I was doing. I just planted my butt down on one of the sofas in the room.

"No! We will not go public! No one is to go public until I say! If anyone dares to cross me and go against my wishes they will pay with their life!"

Whoa, things were getting serious. I guess this had to do with the vampires outing themselves. I should probably feel more nervous if Caden was this angry. I really didn't know how he'd react to me sitting here plain as day listening in. I felt a general safeness. Most likely due to the fact that he needed my help. Or so he said.

"I know what they've threatened. I am concerned! I am your KING! It is my job to be concerned! I'm telling you that now is not the time. I mean it. If I get word of anyone going public they will no longer have to worry about immortality."

Caden ended the call. He exhaled and slumped his shoulders forward for just a moment. That's when he noticed me. You could see it in the way that he immediately straightened up before turning around.

"How long have you been sitting there?" he asked.

I smiled up at him.

"Long enough, "I said.

"I take it you heard all of that."

"Yes."

Caden ran a hand through his long dark hair making the ponytail come loose. His hair fanned out around his shoulders and fell a little bit in his face. He tucked an errant strand behind his ear. He was a very graceful man and these trivial movements fascinated me. I don't think I've ever just sat around to see a vampire act like a normal human. I could totally see why movies and books tend to romanticize them.

"I have a few questions for you," I tell Caden.

He quirked a brow at me and drug his arm through the air as if to say 'well'.

"What exactly do you think I can do to help?" I said.
