The Privilege's name is Eyes of Light, but the skill's name didn't seem to reflect on that.
When he read it, though, he couldn't help but twitched his lips.
[Skill: Call of the Light Lv.1
Description: Summons the light of the Cosmos to an unlit area by a 10% chance.
Side Effect: Higher Authority Corruption (on enemies, allies, and self)]
That one is out of the general options, Reid decided. Unless I’m in a really dire situation, or I have a back-up to prevent me from being corrupted by the Higher Authority, I can’t use it.
As for how to use it in the first place, he scowled.
—I don’t even know that yet.
He groaned, thinking about how to proceed with it.
Usually, it involved chanting a spell or directly stating the name of the skill, but he didn’t know the incantation as it wasn’t explained by the three guides that gave him a helping hand before. However, if only stating the skill's name…
Reid checked his Shadow Cloak skill.
[Skill: Shadow Cloak Lv.1
Description: A merge with shadows.
Side Effect: Risk of being corrupted by the Eclipsed Monarch under the black moon and areas closely connected to Him]
He immediately decided to try it out.
Standing in the corner of the room opposite the small, lit lantern, he muttered the words “Shadow Cloak” without envisioning himself merging with the shadows. He wanted to see if he could just do one of the two for the activation, or if both were required together.
If that didn’t work, he would try doing it with the lantern turned off, though it might be somewhat dangerous. It is unlikely, but something terrible could happen to me while in darkness for too long.
His eyebrows twitched. It's not that obvious, but the way he was narrating internally as if two people were there is getting under his skin.
In any case, he didn’t feel anything special after stating the skill's name. Relying on his sight alone, he didn’t see any changes in his body.
He tried the second method, envisioning himself merging with the shadows.
Oh?
Reid felt something. It disappeared the moment he realized it, but he didn’t panic.
What he felt was a sensation where his vision darkened but sharpened at the same time. His body felt unreal as it merged with the shadows, or illusory might be the right word.
It seems that the additional condition for the activation is a calm heart.
Because of the initial shock of the skill activating, it was disrupted. After all, a shock is… well, a shock. It's a sudden jolt. Since it disrupts a tranquil emotion, it's a reasonable excuse for his attempt at hiding in the shadows to fail, which was his intention.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
He felt like turning off the lantern to experience the true darkness and merge better, but wisely restrained himself. I certainly don’t want to die from something unknown again.
He had stopped thinking about how he could die on Earth. It only troubled him, as Isetra had said.
Still, if asked if he wanted to go to Earth, he would naturally say yes. Nothing was great about this world. However, the situation here didn’t seem supportive, and even if he could return, he might end up in someone else’s body now that he was most certainly declared dead.
He noticed that he didn’t really miss Earth either. Maybe it was because of Aumanas Ilruna’s soul, or his inherent nature of not caring much about anything.
Reid shook his head and refocused on understanding his own powers.
He wonders if there’s an explanation for the level of his Authority or just more details about it.
There were sections for Aumanas Ilruna's Background, Race, Class, Authority, Privileges, and Skills. Among these, only Class and Authority were left unchecked.
Before diving into those, he reviewed the skills from the Decayer and Forest Manipulation privileges.
[Skill: Rotting Touch Lv.1 (Passive) (0% EXP)
Description: Cell-destroying touch]
[Skill: Infusion Lv.1 (0% EXP)
Description: Infusing an object with the element of decay]
[Skill: Damage Manipulation Lv.1 (0% EXP)
Description: Manipulating existing damage to transfer or neutralize it]
I need to be careful not to touch or be touched carelessly was his first thought. He wasn’t the touchy type and disliked being touched by others back on Earth anyway. But I will still need to be cautious to avoid accidentally causing irreversible damage to anyone.
He then looked at the Privilege with the most skills.
[Skill: Corrupted Growth Lv.1 (0% EXP)
Description: Rapidly grow any corrupted plant you know
Side Effect: Possibility of being marked by the Eclipsed Monarch]
Most of the Privilege's Skills had names that clearly indicated their power, like Degradation of Flora, Eclipsed Canopy, Poisonous Roots, Shadow Flowers, and Poisonous Thorns—five of the six skills.
Most also had a chance of being marked by the Eclipsed Monarch based on their use.
This Eclipsed Monarch is annoying, Reid clicked his tongue. Why can’t you just leave me alone?
By the looks of it, He is also the source of the Black Moon residents' suffering.
As he moved on to check his Authority profile, he was surprised again.
[Authority: Degradation
Title: The Fallen
Description: A fallen forest guardian stripped of all Authority privileges. Undermining and usurping others' ranks is his path to greater power]
[Accumulated experience as the Fallen: 0%]
The Celestial Wanderer supposedly has the Authority to grant the screen-like RPG Window, Reid thought, still surprised. She’s also said to be a Guide. I think I understand now.
He wasn’t sure if everyone had the same screen layout under the Celestial Wanderer’s guidance, so he might need to ask.
Undermining others’ ranks, though. Who should I target? Reid pondered this for a moment.
There were still many things he didn’t know about Authority. It seemed he could elevate his Authority to a higher level. He didn’t know if just undermining and usurping others’ power would increase his rank. He would have to experiment.
He had planned to meet with Isetra tomorrow for a short training session in order to get used to his new body and powers. I should choose a steady process to strengthen myself.
Learning Aumanas Ilruna’s brief background was done. The same went for his Race, Authority, and Privileges.
Now, only the Wandering Mage role was left unexplained.
