Bobby felt like nothing could surprise him after all the bullshit he had to endure since what did not feel like yesterday. He should have known that it would take a bit longer than 28 felt years in a bed in his head until all the features had shown themselves. Apparently he had serious misconceptions of how a human was supposed to act, problematic because a majority of his experience with humans had been a mad dream hallucination and he barely remembered his life before that. Even maths, grammar, history, physics, sports and other things were vastly different from his expections. For example he could not simply fly away when he wanted a timeout. Flying itself didn't work and people kept him from leaving the classroom even if he walked. Kicking someone would not result in them turning into a potted plant or maybe a bunch of shiny bubbles, it would result in getting beaten up. Any energy beams attempted to conjure in order to remove boring or ugly people did simply not manifest. Math also was not about vast rows of 1s and 0s, it was about numbers HIGHER than 1 and 0. That was simply inconceivable, outrageous and stupid. He remembered what they had told him when he had written a short story about the transmutation of a neural connection over a day including various binary maths. They told him that they could not understand it and that he was delusional. When he complained that he had done this for 8 years and knew his neural connections, they simply laughed. He had not managed to smite them by bending their bodies inwards until they popped into sharp splinters of compressed north, flavored like the feeling you get when you scratch a virtual limb against the color red.
Everyone thought that Bobby had gone crazy, and Bobby thought that everyone except him had gone crazy. Nobody was there to understand each other and communication went past both parties. With great relief both teachers and students left the school after the state mandated time had passed. Despite the failure to grasp the meaning of the lessons, Bobby had learned that various things did not work anymore, some things were completely different and how they were made up. Some things were even rather convenient, he would no longer be picked up by the wind and be thrown back and forth in the clouds for days until the wind stopped. Inconvenient was the walking time until he had reached Robert's Experimental Science and Repair Service. The sun was already about to set - manipulating the sun was one of the things that Bobby missed the most.
Robert awoke from his daily hibernation sleep that he utilized to minimize his calory consumption. Someone had pressed the doorbell, which awakened him with a violent shaking. Robert did some mental gymnastics and turned off the doorbell with his mind until tomorrow during opening times - he could have automated this, but simply had not bothered yet. Robert got back to sleep. Bobby knew something was up after the doorbell did cease to buzz. He figured that he would just have to break into the house then. Walking through walls did not work anymore, so throwing a brick through a window would probably also no longer work. Intrigued about the new physics, Bobby tried to manipulate the door in various ways. He was almost disappointed when the key that he found underneath the doormat had worked. Bobby decided to keep the key for later usage and trespassed into the house. The smell shook at Bobbys memories and suppressed the dominant personality in favor of the original Bobby, who shook and cried for a solid 10 minutes. The exposure to this place had caused a flashback and then a shutdown and the dominant personality returned, annoyed that stuff like this happened in this reality too.
Wandering through the house made it hard to believe that someone was living here. Some places had to have been abandoned for so long, that Bobby did not even enter those dust ridden dead rooms. Eventually he had found the lab upstairs and the charging dock.

The only problem was that it was currently in use, Roberts head resting on the wireless charging device (despite the medical statistics that wireless charging of neural implants caused brain cancer in the long term). Noting the energy of his neural implants going up by mere proximity to the charger, the young trespasser found the source of power quickly. After charging for a while, the neural implants activated again and connected to the WLAN for the first time that Bobby was concious. If the implants could be described as eyes that watch Bobby, the internet could be described as a ghostly morse code sent at both of the neural implants at a speed of impossibly to understand millions of signals per second (the m in mbit stands for mega bit, mega stands for million, bit stands for one signal that can be either 0 or 1). Something yet unknown (or maybe already very well known) from within the implant had stretched the time for Bobby and he was currently experiencing the extreme time dilation of 5 signals per percieved second - that was a 2 days + 7.55 hours per second time dilation. After some percieved years and realtime hours of fiddling, Bobby had managed to decode the meaning of the binary code, after one percieved week he then had automated the translation of each packet which returned him to normal human speed without time dilation. Incredible how simple it seemed after becoming an expert in the minute detail of routing. It currently mostly boiled down to the WLAN having given his implants valid addresses and the computer regularly asking everyone from within the net whether they are the implant of Robert to send him various encrypted data. Bobby had not managed to decrypt it and he had given up rather soon because he knew how impossibly long it would take him to do that (one of his experiences in his dreamt up worklife). Instead he had set up a session with the pc itself, finding it filled with various math, REAL math with real binary numbers. Bobby was relieved that all of his work had not been for nothing and found various vulnerabilities of the WLAN technology as not everything was securely encrypted. There were some upgrades for his implant and more importantly the source code of his implants, explaining a lot of the problems with his dreams. Bobby had worked a bit on the code and fixed some bugs, downloaded it all into his head and felt rather proud.
In the early morning hours his nerding over the internet had lead him to a curious information gathering algorithm named 'internet browser', apparently it could get information from outside of the WLAN utilizing other networks as a medium given only a few words. Was that really necessary tho? Bobby knew that the internet wasn't really more than a glorified way to speak with the computer without touching it, so why would he want to look into the computers of complete strangers? That would be too rude, privacy was important and wouldn't they also be disturbed in their activities if he just accessed their computer? Speaking of rude, Robert had not let him inside his house after ringing the doorbell. Bobby decided to steal a spare charger, an undamaged sapient smart toaster with integrated router and a bunch of batteries to really show Robert what he thought of his rude behavior. Walking through the early morning streets with his well deserved loot, Bobby was content with the world, having uncovered the mystery of the internet all on his own. When he arrived at home he had found his parents asleep on the couch, his mother seemed to have cried. "What an idiotic thought - a hacker can't just replace me over the internet with just a download rate of about 170 mbits per implant", Bobby thought condescendingly and took a refreshing shower.
