What. Where is this wind coming from? Oh yeah. I’m currently falling down the largest building in South Side New York. While my family fights whichever murderous psychopath they’re fighting now. I need a nap. Maybe even a massage. Oh yeah? You’re wondering how I got thrown off said building. Well it’s kind of a long story so let me rewind to 11 months ago.
I was back in my high school. Senior year and it was the last day before winter break.
I was in my guidance counselor’s office again. Pictures of her kids filled the room and a big red sign that said “don’t give up. You’re almost there”. Cheapest thing in the room other than her perfume
“Mr. Morales. This is the 6th time your brother has gotten into a fight due to his short temper. I think it would be best for you to talk to him” Ms.Woodings told me
I knew why he was mad. His dad was the main source of his anger but he usually tends to take it all out on me since we live together. Our mom-She passed away when we were kids. I was 5 and he was 3. So that stress piled on with his dad’s criticism really wasn’t a good combo
I shook my head and said okay with a smile on my face. But I knew the conversation with me and my brother would go how it always does. Him bashing me and in return me doing the same thing. But I don’t blame him for the bashing. For most of our childhood, I was taken in by my grandparents and he wasn’t. So I would neglect him and treat him as if he wasn’t the only brother I had on this earth. So most times….I blame myself for how he treats me.
I sat in class. Then two people sat beside me. One girl with curly red hair and pale skin and the other side was a lightskin boy. Combed back hair. Those two. Just so happened to be my best friends. Junior and Marie.
“Sooooo. You wanna give us the run down on the 4th trip this week?” Junior asked whispering
“Max broke someone’s nose. Again.” I replied
They didn’t say anything but I could see by the look on their faces that they felt bad for me
“Guys it’s fine. I’ll just get the conversation over with like how I usually do” I reassured them
“Nic. It’s not that. You’re giving yourself stress from someone else’s actions. You gotta stop him” Marie said
I nodded my head to reassure the two of them that they were heard
Then the announcements hit
“Good Morning everyone. My name is Manuel Ramos with the Tech High News!” Manuel shouted
That was my cousin on the announcements. Giving the same speech from the day before but at least we had something to look forward too today! Manuel had the house all to himself because my aunt was out of town and that meant only one thing. Reckless teenager behavior
“So you guys coming to my cousin’s party later?” I asked to Junior and Marie
They looked at each other as if they were waiting for the other to speak
“You guys aren’t coming are you?” I asked
“Listen. We love you. We do. But your family can be….a bit much” Junior said
I wanted to rebuttal. But to be honest. He was telling the truth. If there’s one thing my family didn’t have that would DEFINITELY be a filter

Last year. My cousin Jak went on a whole rant about how “you can’t let emotion stop you from being a man”. I never got what he meant by it but he seemed to fully believe every word that came out of his mouth
2:00 rolled around-actually. This is a huge disclaimer. There are going to be a lot of cousins in this story. At least like 7 before we became the heroes of New York. Just a heads up. But where was I? Oh yeah. I left school and winter break was officially on.
My cousin Isaiah picked me and Max up and to be honest. It was the most silent car ride I have ever been on in my entire life
“Are one of you motherfuckers gonna speak or am I gonna have to do that for you too?” Isaiah asked
“Today we learned about Stomach acid and stuff” I replied trying to lighten the mood
“When I say speak. I don’t mean about SCHOOL! This is the first day of winter break. School doesn’t exist!” Isaiah shouted
We barely spoke the whole car ride before we got to Manuel’s house. We arrived and there was no music. Just the sound of crickets and a very low song playing in the house
“Manuel! We’re here!” I shouted opening the door
“Wassup boys!” Manuel said hugging us
“You’re the first ones here. So help me set up” He said
There we 5 coolers lining down the hallway. Each with a specific colored alcohol. I knew if Titi was here, she would’ve killed us. Because Max and Manuel were the same age. Born the same day actually. They were both 16 so his mom would’ve flipped
“Bro please tell me this isn’t gonna be a meat fest. You invited some girls right” Isaiah asked sitting on the kitchen counter
“You think I’m a rookie or something? Of course I invited some! That’s our goal for tonight boys!” Manuel said before another voice interrupted him
“Ya balls finally gonna drop?” Jak said coming from behind us
We hugged him but behind him was my cousin Jordan
Me and Jordan were extremely close. Probably because our moms were pregnant with the both of us are the same time. Jordan was 4 months older than me though. But she was like-my partner in crime. Who I was also in diapers with
“Thank god you’re here! I took a huge risk. I asked this dickhead of a brother if you were gonna be here and the only words coming out his mouth were I don’t know” Jordan said hugging me
Jordan’s brothers were Jak and Isaiah. Forgot to mention that part
“So I heard your hermano got into a fight. How did that go?” Jordan asked
“Same way it always does. He gets mad. Someone gets hurt. Same old same old.” I replied
“And I’m guessing that if YOU ask him. He’ll start calling you out your name and shit. But if someone else asks him. It’s the whole story and then some. Right?” Jordan asked
“God it’s like you can read my mind” I said laughing
The first guest walked through the door and that’s when the party started.
6 hours later and i was BUZZED out of my mind! i couldn’t walk straight at all.
I walked up the stairs but I was stumbling and I couldn’t feel my own face. Luckily, Manny had a sign on the bathroom that literally said bathroom so the throw up coming up had a place to go
But when I bursted into the bathroom I saw a girl already occupying the toilet
“Oh I’m sorry. Did you need this?” She said throwing up into the toilet
I ended up going with the sink
I threw myself back on the floor and so did the girl next to me
“I appreciate you not throwing up on me. Thank you friend” The girl said
She was skinny with black hair. And one lash was missing. She stuck out her hand
“I’m Nicole” She said with a drunken smile
I couldn’t fully lift up my hand up I was able to just place it on her wrist
“I’m Nicholas” I replied
“Woah. We basically have the same name. We’re like. Siblings” Nicole said
It’s crazy because she said this and you guys have no idea how on the money she really was
I got up and I could feel my eyesight becoming more clear. I went down the steps and I could see my brother and Jordan sitting in the corner so I went to join them
When I got closer. Max just stopped talking. Jordan noticed and started talking to me
“On a scale of 1-10 how much do you regret drinking that much?” She asked
“45” I said with a smile leaning on her shoulder
Mind you, Jordan is like 5 foot and 100 pounds. I was very uncomfortable leaning on her
Jak came charging towards us and Manuel was right behind him
“If ya don’t get ya BITCH ASSES UP! AND TAKE THIS SHOT!” He shouted
I rejected it but Max and Jordan took it. It’s like they were drinking gasoline by the look on their faces
Isaiah then came behind us and showed us that the electrical plant down the street was glowing
“So we’re going right?” Jordan said
“Absolutely!” Manuel shouted
He went to the people in the house and stood on the table to let them know the news about the lights
Everyone got up and started to walk down the street. You could see all the lights from further down.
Me and my brother were walking next to each other. He noticed and started moving away. Until Jordan swooped in and started hugging our arms
“Now if we die. I wanna be the pretty one they find out of us three” She said
Everyone got closer and sat down on the sidewalk. We admired it for about 5 minutes before Isaiah told us that anyone who went close could be in danger. He went on this whole speech about how chemicals were mixed into the electrical field to up the energy that comes out
“You think we’ll ever unlock the secrets of the world?” Manny asked us
“Here we go. Who gave this motherfucker another drink! Now he’s talking out his ass” Jak said
“How about you shut your bitch ass up!” Manuel replied back
While they were arguing I noticed something. A man wearing a red hoodie with a black jean jacket was watching us. Standing there. Like he was examining us
I saw this and started walking towards him. Drunk out of my mind
He started to walk slow. Like he was waiting for me to catch up to him. He then started speaking
“I gotta continue the cycle kid. Wish things could’ve been different but trust me. With what’s coming. They’re gonna need us” He said
I was confused. What the fuck was he on about
“Continue it. Unless you find a way to escape it. See you in a few” He said with a smile
His arm turned gold and he shot the electric grid. There was a flash. I ran towards my brother before the explosion pushed me to the side. This was the beginning. The Beginning of the New Kind
