Chapter 30 - His Truth

Chapter 30 - His Truth

Smiling after he understood what Instinct was talking about, Neo walked over to the opening, taking his ring off of his finger and transforming into his dragon form. "Haha, man this is just my dream come true, haha."

His thoughts raced as his adrenaline pumped throughout his system. Smiling he stepped off the side of the tower, falling fast. As he got closer to the ground, he slowed as Seren sprang out, spreading out like a pair of wings. Still, Neo landed hard, in a crouched position with his fist impacting the ground with dirt and dust pluming out.

It was awesome to see and Neo felt like a badass, even if his knees hurt.

With that done, Neo shot off towards the arena, passing around the massive battle happening in front of the main building. He was thinking that things were a lot worse than he'd thought. He even saw that some of the commander’s own men were attacking their comrades. With that said, it looked as if over half the students had been dealt with. Neo flew past and into the open area before the arena only to see the trails of dust from the collapsed building. Everywhere he looked he found trouble, as he found that everyone he saw had red eyes and bleeding fingers.

There were small forces that ran from the waves of maddened, unable to stem the tide that swarmed out. There was also the hulking figure of Elfin, who's horns had grown farther out of his head. He also had a snake tail and bat like wings, and everything was black, from the fur on his goat like chin to the end of his bloody hooves. His red eyes and bleeding finger nails denoting his transformation into one of the maddened.

Elfin screamed at someone and the scream shook the trees and caused waves in the water. It wasn't until Neo moved around that he could see what he was shouting at. Neo was filled with relief, which instantly turned into concern as Elfin stomped at Gie and Bethany, the two of which were moving constantly to dodge the physical attacks that were blasting holes in the ground.

Neo didn't like this at all and jumped, breaking the ground behind him, and rocketed toward Elfin. He was intending to knock him down, but found that his target’s head had rocketed back as a small figure smashed into the chin of Elfin, throwing back his head and making Neo shoot past, missing his target. Seren flared herself, letting Neo land without putting a huge amount of stress on his body.

Bethany landed beside him with a puff of steam, before she accused him, "Neo, you trying to kill Elfin?! You almost took his head off. He’s a baphomet, they're very weak. It doesn't take much to hurt them severely, so be careful to not kill him. We’re trying to get him away from everyone and to slowly restrict him. But I'm glad you managed to survive your encounters. Guess you got Conway tied up somewhere?"

Neo replied, "Yeah sorry, I didn't know what he was, either way I'll help you. And Conway's in the tower with Jane, but the lich got away."

Bethany went to speak, but Elfin had recovered from the blow to his jaw. As he straightened, he was bleeding from his mouth as he dropped his hand away. His jaw was at least attached and unbroken, but the roar that came of out his mouth made Neo’s hand shoot to his ears, before jumping away as Neo saw one of Elfin’shooves being lifting up.

It crashed through the trees as Neo, Bethany, and Gie weaved through them. They avoided being tread on while they moved away from everyone, the problem was that other maddened were following them. There was another problem with the plan that Neo thought of, 'What are we going to be tying him up with?'

As he passed Bethany he asked, but she only said, "Ask Gie."

So he did. On asking, Gie showed him a chain that shone with a with a bluish tint. But as they separated out, Neo shouted, "I don't think you have enough!"

Gie shouted back,"We just need to get Elfin to the ground and make a single connection in order to activate the desired effect. It'll bring him back down to our level so we need to set up a trap."

Neo looked over to Bethany and shouted to her, "Do you thing you can keep Elfin distracted? We will set the trap up!"

All Neo got was a thumbs up before a black hoof obscured his view of her. With that done, Neo and Gie pulled ahead by about five hundred metres and started discussing how to fell Elfin into the trap, but it was hard. They figured that if they went for the feet, they would just be kicked away, so they decided to place the chain along the clearing they had found. Quickly finishing, they took a hidden spot quite a few metres forward from where they had placed the chain.

The two of them placed two flags on the top of the trees so that Bethany could see exactly where she needed to bring Elfin. It was all a waiting game after that, and hoping that as he crouched there that Elfin wouldn't trip or stumble onto him. It would certainly deflate the day. Taking a deep breath, his heart started racing as he felt the ground shake. He instinctively took another deep breath as to not attract attention as Bethany raced past, followed by a heavily breathing Elfin.

Once Elfin had made it past them and hit the mark, Neo jumped out of his hiding spot and ran at Elfin. Aiming for his knees, Neo jumped three metres in the air, smashing against the tendons in the back of Elfin’s knee, causing it to collapse. Gie, who was a second behind Neo, hit the other knee at a far slower speed than Neo did, but his weight made a huge difference as the knee collapsed even more dramatically.

Neo pushed off of Elfin’s knee joint and jumped back to the ground and ran to the chain. While he was doing that, Bethany had reacted perfectly as she saw the unbalanced Elfin and decided to capitalise on it. Blasting off while making two small holes in the ground, she hit his chest, causing the ripples of muscle to wave about. Elfin fell back onto the area with the chain, where Neo and Gie jumped up and over him to meet in the middle.

Neo soon realised that this idea might not have been such a good one as he bounced over Elfin's abdomen, much like a bouncy castle. He couldn’t slow down and there was an unmovable solid object running at him. Tensing as the collision happened, Neo put his hand forward to break his collision, but even with that his face slapped against Gie’s chest, flattening his nose and making the world spin as he bounced off. Obversely, Gie hadn't been affected by the collision, as he grabbed Neo arm before pulling him back and attaching the two chain pieces together.

Neo was rubbing his nose while he watched. As they connected the chains, the blue hew they gave off only glowed brighter. As it did Neo lost his balance and fell to the ground as Elfin's body shrunk underneath him. Neo decided to get on the bounce castle as it inflated and deflated while Elfin roared in protest as he fought against it.

Everything became heavy and the dark fog around Elfin flared outward as he fought against the chain, which only glowed brighter the harder Elfin struggled. As Neo and Gie made it off Elfin, Gie said something concerning. "He should've returned to his normal size by now?"

Elfin continued to fight against the chain that was glowing brightly. Hearing another shout, Neo turned to see red eyed students running toward them. Thankfully there was still some distance, but the thick darkness started attacking the chain directly, eating away the chains.

"Damn it, he’s a higher being, never knew there was one in the academy!"

Before Neo could ask Gie what a higher being actually was, the chain broke and the full force of Elfin’s gravity ability pushed Neo to the ground. Neo couldn't even move his head up, though, he managed to turn it to see Gie standing there, blue and mean looking, but he disappeared into the misty darkness with a deafening roar.

'What the hell, why did the light go out? misty, no light. Oh, I hope he isn't making the sky fall on us,' Neo thought. He fell to the side to see that was indeed what was happening. The huge lake was falling under the power of Elfin's gravity, and Neo could only see the luminescent fish as the sky fell.

Neo, realising that they might just die, grit his teeth as he tried to stand up. Roaring as his body creaked, he pushed himself up to a sitting position. The next bit was going to be difficult, but he knew someone who might be able to relieve this stress, so, croakily as he had trouble moving his jaw, he asked, "Seren… do …you… think… you… can… take… the… stress… off?"

Hearing this, Seren spread itself in stripes along his body before turning more solid. It felt that he was being squashed together and forced to stand. Feeling the stress all over his body, he still had difficulty just standing up, as even the solid Seren bent and creaked, but with a sigh of relief he was standing.

Taking in what was happening, he saw that the mad students were crawling toward them with their bloody fingers, while Bethany was on the ground with the more delicate parts of her armour bent and buckled due to the stress.

Taking one heavy step at a time, Neo needed to move her away from the oncoming students, but Bethany managed to turn her head his direction. Her visor was open and with tears in her eyes, she shouted as best as shecould, "Help… Gie… forget… me… help… Gie!"

Neo looked for Gie but with the mist he couldn't see much beyond the students. As he was about to ignore Bethany’s plea and get her away, he saw a blue glow get shot into the encroaching lake before disappearing into its darkness. Neo knew he'd be coming back down, and he would have to deal with Elfin, who might be ready to just blast him away again. Neo could already see the blue glow returning, "Seren… we're… going… for… broke!"

Seren relaxed and formed a spring which helped Neo run toward the direction where Gie had been thrown from. Once he could see the outline of the large figure that was Elfin, Neo pumped all of his mana into his body, strengthening it and slowing down the world as he jumped with everything he and Seren could bring forward with the compressed force of the springs. Aiming for Elfin’s abdomen, Neo shot forward, causing the ground to break away from him and causing turbulence within the mist.

He pushed his fist forward with a grimace, even as his face was being pulled back, his head didn't move an inch and his bone creaked, causing pain to shoot throughout his body.

With everything put into his punch, he slowed dramatically as he got closer to Elfin. His only saving grace was that Elfin wasn't aware of Neo. As he hit Elfin, the full impact rippled out, causing skin to be stretched out and torn, and a gargantuan roar burst out of his mouth. Neo instantly started rocketing to the ground, his instinct took over so that he landed on his legs and Neo hoped that Seren could take some of the force.

But it was for naught, as soon as he landed he let out a scream as his legs broke and crumbled underneath him. Settling on his back, his legs moved in different directions, making Neo cry out as they did. But he heard a great sound and felt a great gust of wind that brought dust, and that put a grim smile on his face seeing that big blue rock plummeting out of the lake. But something else behind Gie attracted his attention. A golden glow started to grow as it got closer to them, faster and faster.

As Gie burst out of the encroaching lake, he picked up even more speed within the last hundred metres of air that there was. Within seconds there was a great explosion from the direction of Elfin. Neo heard the moans of Elfin but there was no change in the gravity, even as Elfin roared painfully.

Not that Neo cared. He was sure that this was the end, as his vision was darkening, but he could easily see the gold tentacles burst out of the lake above, spreading out before it dived towards Elfin’s resting place. He wasn’t without a battle, though, as a black vortex consumed the golden tentacle before Neo saw another white vortex form and that exact tentacle came out, intercepting the other golden tentacles that were descending on Elfin with a huge explosion that warmed Neo's body up.

The gold tentacle had been smeared in the air, but reformed in a huge pillar of gold light that descended on Elfin. Elfin tried again, trying to greedily consume the whole thing, but it merely split into a thousand pillars of light that curved around the black vortex. Several more vortexes formed before them, but they merely avoided them and weaved through the dozens of vortexes that were now appearing.

Nothing could stop it as the golden light impacted Elfin's locations. There was silence as the beam snapped together, destroying the vortex and obliterating Elfin. Neo could finally breath normally, but so could the mad students surrounding him. Those students were all getting up as well, however, for Neo, the darkness was claiming his sight and intense pain clawed its way into his limbs, slowly creeping up and taking him.

Neo was shaken awake opening his eye he could only see a bleary figure standing over him, Neo could hear a lot of movement around lot of people moving around him, "Lad, you're ok now, Healer get over here! The mad students have been subdued, thanks to Elfin's gravity. That slowed them to a stop and it was just a matter of tying them up as they tried to crawl at us."

Neo coughed, "Commander?"

The commander replied, "Yeah, good job dealing with Elfin, I couldn't spare the men to help. Sadly, I saw that Elfin was vaporised by the bubble in retribution. We also got Conway and Jane, though you'll need to explain that later. By the way, I am assuming she needed those restrains for a good reason, so she been chucked into a cell. As for the cure, that's going to have to be persuaded out of those two."

Neo nodded and spoke coolly,"Yeah go ahead, I lost any sympathy for them when they tried to hurt Bethany."

Speaking reminded him that his body felt a bit odd, 'Oh right broken legs, that’s what it was!"

As his thoughts travelled to them, so did his awareness, and he found agony as his bones grinded against each other while he breathed in and out.

The commander patted Neo on his shoulder, sending a wave of pain throughout his body. "Oww!" Neo shouted aloud.

The commander snapped his hand away, "Sorry, you don't need to worry about Bethany, she's doing better than you are. And Gie lost one of his arms, but he’s fine, so just rest while the medic heals you!"

Neo’s sight was fading so he hadn't seen another person appear on his other side. As his hand came close to Neo, the pain faded slightly and heat welled up, radiating from the man's hands. However, it didn't stop Neo from falling asleep as any of his remaining energy had faded.
