Prologue: Chain of Events

Prologue: Chain of Events

With the beginning of the twenty second century things had changed. The world’s population increased to 11 billion. Technological advancements occurred time and time again, causing changes worldwide. With new technological advancements, the world changed; and many problems were solved. But with everything comes a price, and technology could not solve everything. With overpopulation issues, resources such as water, land, and jobs became limited. Things that were previously taken for granted were now luxuries.

When there are too many people and not enough food to feed them, problems will always occur. A “solution” was found to solve the problem, a war for more resources, which later was known as World War III

Lucky or not, nuclear shields was one of the new pieces of technology. As a result, humans didn’t face extinction, however without nuclear weapons bunkers and trenches were the common method of warfare, and World War III became the bloodiest war so far, quickly becoming a war of attrition. the devastation of World War III was incomprehensible with over 10 trillion $ worth of damage worldwide, and 6.5 billion people died as a result of drone warfare, missile strikes, naval conflict, and possibly the worst method of all, biological warfare. But even biological warfare didn’t finish the war, and world leaders became desperate. Projects that were created during the Cold War and suspended afterwards, were now seen as a viable option. To gain an edge over their enemies, humanity threw aside the rules and restrictions of society, and opened up the can of worms known as genetic modification. With such a devastating war, the laws against genetic enhancement were quickly overlooked, and the research began.

Genetic modification wasn’t successful, at least at first. Tests on animals and mice were inconclusive, but after a couple years they begun accomplishing rapid success. This led to much trial and error, until they finally felt as though they could move onto human test subjects. But most people didn’t know that they begun with humans, they only believed that they would use this research to improve genetic warfare and cause plants and other lifeforms to fight against the enemy. This project was later known as the “Heaven’s Gate” experiment, in hopes of what new knowledge it would unlock.

What followed could only be described as inhumane. To prevent outside attachments, they begun erasing the memories of test subjects, and exposing them to many experiments, the majority of which were unsafe and caused immense pain. Many experiments resulted in failures or monstrosities, which were quickly put down, and they moved onto the next test subject.

Five years after this project started, the first success was created, with a human test subject. However this success was short-lived, as enemies of the country that the lab was based in had gotten wind of their ambitions, attacked with satellite strikes which completely destroyed the lab and all the research, and with it any hopes of genetic modification. Or so people thought.

Around a year later a figure arose, with otherworldly powers, who sought to put an end to the global conflict. Possessing strength on level with a god, the figure, who was later dubbed as the “Pseudo-God”, proceeded to put an end to all conflict and resolved the war through force.

People never knew the origins or background of this figure, there were efforts to learn of this person's identity, but the aftermath of WWIII was so devastating that they quickly gave up and used their resources to rebuild.

In the wake of World War III appeared a new generation of people, who were widespread through the world. They all had powers similar to the Pseudo God, only they had one or two, or weakened versions of the Pseudo God’s powers.

First met with rejection and opposition, eventually humans were forced to accept as more and more of these people, also known as “Supers” the X genome was loosely accepted as the ‘superpower’ gene, despite the fact that every X gene was incredibly different from each other, and seemed to have nothing in common. Each X gene differed based on the power(s) of the individual.

Eventually with all of these new powers, someone who nullified the powers and illusions of other Super’s was born, and with the nullification of illusions came the discovery of a whole new world, hidden by illusions, and barriers. This world was inhabited by the supernatural, such as demons, merfolk, etc.

The discovery of a world, hidden within our own the whole time sent the world until uproar again. With their own discovery, the residents of the Magic World laid a curse to prevent any X genomes becoming present in human children, this prevented an Super from being born from an human-Super relationship and a human-human relationship, but two Supers always produced an Super child.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Attempts to wage war were met with forces outside human understanding, and to deal with all of the new factors in play, the humans sought to make an organization to deal with foreign elements, like Super’s and the supernatural.

This force was named the “Paranormal Defense Elite”or PDE. This organization was comprised of Super’s and humans who sought to stop any dangerous supernatural elements, and recruit potential Super candidates for the PDE. They also had a sub-branch or the ‘Scouting’ division, of which the investigative and information gathering part originated from. The humans in the PDE were there to maintain a sense of security, so that the Super’s would never turn on them and also, because of individual skills and connections such as hackers or the leading figures in branches of science.

This part of PDE was known as the technology branch, and they were responsible for a series of technological advancements designed to contain and fight off the supernatural and Super’s, although each Super had different powers and weaknesses which required different technology for each one.

Even with all of these countermeasures there still were a lot of extremely powerful Super’s who sought to break the law, and supernatural rogues fled to the Human World from the Magical World to escape the law or other factors, which led to conflict between the supernatural and residents of Earth. This occurred the other way too, with humans fleeing into the magical world as well.

Seeing that immigration became more and more common, the leaders of both worlds sought to put aside the differences and meet to discuss terms and treaties.

In 2142, a year before the conference, the Human World saw the need for unification, and through a lot of turmoil the most powerful man in the world, who dominated the field of nanotechnology came to rise as the “World Leader” and he alone would be in charge of the entire planet against foreign elements, and it seemed true that humans only unite when given a common enemy

In 2143, the year of the conference, the ‘Overlord’ who was the leader of the magic world and a demon brought his seven generals to meet with the World Leader and the leading forces in the PDE; the most powerful Supers around. This was a show of force.

Conditions were successfully agreed upon, and a compromise was reached; the Magic World had the right to their will upon any human/Super criminals in their territory, or anyone who acted against their interests, and the Human World had the right to enact their will upon any Supernatural rogues who acted against their interests.

What followed was a period of turmoil and unease that lasted for twenty years. Humans immigrated to the Magic World because of their desire for immortality and prowess, only to be rudely awakened and manipulated by many of the Supernatural.

The supernatural went to the human world to escape tyranny and seek a better start, only to be discriminated against by everyone in the human world, and abused both mentally and physically.

“Halfies” were often born, a mix of human/Super and the supernatural, often were looked down upon by both sides; a ragtag organization of sorts was formed for those belonging to neither side, made up entirely of halfies.

In 2170 life in both worlds stabilized, and a balance was met; supernatural inherent abilities was checked by human technology and Supers; the world had a balance, more or less.

Three years later, the black hole in the center of the Milky Way gave off enormous waves of energy, which were only detectable by scientists. An invisible explosion of energy struck a village in the Magic World, causing the deaths of everyone inhabiting it.

This incident gave birth to a certain individual, one who was found after the Overlord himself, went to investigate; after detecting such a massive surge of energy-he found a young boy, surrounded by dead flowers and trees. Any other people who attempted to get nearby this child would lose energy and strength, and become fatigued. They also started to become cold. The lost energy seemingly transferred to the child.

The overlord, bearing immense strength, saw the incredible potential in this child. He then sealed his powers until he came of age to control them, and adopted the child as his own. He then passed the child off as his heir and his child, which was easy to do as the child didn’t look human. However if one were to look closer he didn’t look like any particular race of a Supernatural either.

Of course, the fact that this child was not the Overlord’s sun was known to no one but the overlord himself. Time passed, and the child eventually came of age.
