Chapter Five: The Chase

The hooded man moved quickly, slipping into the crowd. Maya and Cursor hurried after him, keeping a safe distance.

Cursor kept his eyes on the live tracking feed. "He's heading toward the Lower Docks. Probably trying to get out of the district before anyone notices."

The man weaved through alleys, dodging surveillance cams with practiced ease. Whoever he was, this wasn't his first drop.

The mysterious man glanced over his shoulder, eyes scanning the street. His gaze lingered on Maya and Cursor—who now looked like a couple tucked into a shadowed corner.

"Shit, he's on to us!" Cursor shouted.

Maya glanced around quickly, then grabbed Cursor's jacket. "Act normal."

"What?"

"Just… go with it."

Without hesitation, Maya pulled Cursor into a deep kiss.

Cursor's brain short-circuited. He barely registered the fact that Maya was pressing against him, her hands gripping his collar, her lips — moving against his like it was the most natural thing in the world.

The hooded man slowed down, scrutinizing them. Cursor, dazed, forced himself to stay in character, resting his hands on Maya's waist. His heart pounded—not from fear, but from the absolute shock of what was happening.

After a tense moment, the man scoffed and kept moving.

Maya broke the kiss, wiping rain from her lips as she peeked toward the alley.

Cursor, completely smitten, stared at her with wide eyes. Then a slow grin spread across his face.

"Did I tell you how much I love my job?"

Maya rolled her eyes. "Come on, lover boy. We've got a job to finish."

Cursor sighed dreamily as they continued following.

Then, without warning, Wrecker broke into a run. He had decided that they were tailing him after all.

Maya cursed and sprinted after him, dodging pedestrians and leaping over discarded crates. Cursor tried his best to catch up, his lungs unaccustomed to such a heavy work out. The rain made the ground treacherous, but she didn't slow.

The man veered into a side alley, trying to lose them.

"Go left!" Maya called.

Cursor took a shortcut, vaulting over a barricade and intercepting him just as he reached the other side.

The hooded man skidded to a stop.

For a moment, all three of them stood there, breath steaming in the cold air.

Then, in a blur of motion, the man hurled the package toward a sewer drain.

"No, you don't!" Maya lunged forward, barely catching it before it disappeared into the darkness.

The man didn't wait to fight. He turned and ran, vanishing into the maze of alleys before they could react.

Cursor doubled over, panting. "Damn it. This guy's fast."
