The noise of birds chirping filled his surroundings and his peaceful slumber was gradually interrupted by the pleasant soothing chirps which had progressively become a nuisance.
Shin slowly opened his eyes as his senses gradually returned to him. His blurry vision soon began to clear up, and there in front of him was a small blue bird that stared into his eyes as it rested on his forehead.
"Ugh... What just happened?"
"What the... How did a bird get inside?"
Feeling light-headed from his long rest, he attempted to sit in an upright position which caused the surrounding birds around him to fly away. Shin brushed the grass on his shoulders and looked around, captivated by the view. He had assumed that he would be in his room, but instead, he found himself in an open field teeming with greenery, causing his face to turn pale.
"What the hell?!"
Standing up quickly, he looked around his new surroundings, baffled, as he shouted at the top of his lungs "Hina! Where are you?!" But the only thing that responded to him as he stood there, speechless, was the sound of the wind howling.
"Wow... With everything that happened to me, was that how I died? Or did I even pass away?"
Shaking his head from confusion, he smacked himself across the cheek while yelling "Think positively dumbass! This might all be just a dream... Or maybe a hallucination?"
"Whatever the hell it is, I gotta calm down."
Shin laughed hysterically at himself, even though he had no idea what was going on.
"It's about time! Whatever this world might be, I can feel the grand adventure calling out to me!"
He gave himself one last good smack in the cheeks, making sure that this was no dream.
"Okay so, since this is a new world, the best thing to do is probably look for a nearby town here somewhere."
"From what I can see, there is completely nothing around here but a grassy field filled with flowers, a forest in the distance to my left, and a mountain behind me."
"Mhm... If I go inside the forest I might get lost, so the best choice is probably in the mountains."
"There's no choice, hopefully there's a town nearby in the way."
He set off in the direction of the mountains, unsure whether he should be excited or terrified of his new surroundings. Despite his wish for a grand adventure having been granted, his concerns about Hina remained and caused him to overthink everything. Whether he was summoned or just hallucinating, the thought of abandoning his sister made him feel terrible, even though it was something out of his reach.
"Forgive me for leaving you behind Hina," he sighed.
Near the verge of tears, Shin decided that it would be in his best interest to leave all his emotions for Hina behind, it was the only thing he could do. Starting a new life in another world was something new to him and being alone all by himself was something that he never experienced before. Instead of sulking and complaining, he smiled, elegantly.
"I'll find a way back! Even if there's no way out, I'll just make one myself!"
"Wait for me Hina! Your big brother will come back!"
His mood had improved, and he finally found himself enjoying his new surroundings. All of his schoolwork had left him exhausted most of the time, and this felt like the relaxing break he had been looking forward to for quite some time.
"The breeze feels nice around here, it reminds me of home."
"I wonder what type of world this is? It's hard to tell if it's fantasy or not, and with everything around here looking oddly similar to Japan, the weather sure feels nice."
"I'd say that it's maybe summer? Or perhaps spring? Whatever it is, the view here is stunning."
While walking in the direction of the mountains, A loud high-pitched screech interrupted his walk. Shin stood there, dumbfounded as to where the noise had come from. He sets his sights on the clear blue skies and notices a large flying creature circling and following him.
The flying creature resembled nothing more than a large bird, similar to an eagle. He estimated the bird's size to be about a metre and a half in length, with a wingspan of about three metres. However, what caught his attention was its vibrant and colourful feathers that are somewhat pleasant to look at. The bird's body and wings were mostly made up of orange feathers with hints of red and yellow close to its upper body and wings while its head was covered by a large bundle of bright yellow feathers.
"What's it doing followi-"
Without giving him a chance to finish his sentence, the bird had let out another high-pitched screech while facing him, only this time, it was louder than the previous one a few moments ago. The sudden loud screech felt like a shockwave had hit him, and the noise affected everything around him.
Dirt flew out on the grassy fields around him as the flowers were crushed, and animals fled in the distance. Shin stood there, covering his ears as the sounds caused his hearing to be muffled. The bird appears to have no intention of stopping its screeches at Shin, and it felt like its goal was to damage his hearing.
The constant screeching and shockwaves hitting Shin eventually made him irritated, which made him look at the bird as he yelled, "Stop screeching, you annoying prick!" Unfortunately, his taunts directed at the bird are met with hostility, making the situation even worse. The high-pitched screams appeared to have drawn the bird's full attention, and it is now flying extremely fast towards him, ready to strike with its razor-sharp talons.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"Woah!" Shin shrieked as he instinctively dodged the fast diving strike, but in return, made his uniform covered in dirt as he fell into the mini crater. His heart had skipped a beat as he witnessed the bird's incredible speed zoom past him in a blink of an eye.
Shin stood his ground without hesitation and cast a glance in the direction where the creature was supposed to have struck him. He only saw a heap of disturbed soil and a few of the creature's feathers lying there.
Another terrifying screech filled the skies, making him shiver with fear. He tilted his head slowly behind him as he looked up to the skies once more and noticed that the bird was preparing for another attack.
Instead of running away, a seemingly dumb idea came to mind. "If this is a fantasy world, I might be able to use magic!"
Without thinking it through, he kept his composure and faced the bird. "Listen here you flying prick! You just messed with the wrong guy today!" Holding his breath steadily, he put both his arms out towards him with his palms up. As he breathe out, he chanted "Oh great world, give me magic powers that can kill the prick!"
"GO! GO! FIREBALL!"
The silence was soon followed by a loud "Oh, Shit!" By Shin. His brilliant plan of casting a magic spell to take down the bird did not go according to plan. The only thing it did was make the creature ready to strike him once again.
Before the creature could take his last chance away from him, he made a break for it. He sprinted as quickly as he could towards the direction of the mountains, where he had intended to go. It was the only thing he had left after the stupid act he had just pulled.
A few seconds onto his run, the bird quickly zoomed past him, blocking his path toward the mountains. Without any options left he quickly scanned his surroundings for a path of escape or possibly a weapon that can help him.
No possible weapons can be seen around him, however, while looking around he noticed a thick-looking forest to his right, one that would easily help him lose the creature. It was a big and luscious one at best, but on the downside, it was around half a kilometre away from him. Instead of looking for other options, he picked up his speed and ran towards the forest for safety.
Looking back to where the bird had blocked his path, he noticed that its frightening razor-sharp talons and beak could easily kill him, but something seemed a bit off about the creature. He swore that he saw faint little yellow sparks across its entire body, glowing and crackling. Not taking a chance to find out what it was, he simply ignored it and kept on running.
He decided to take a glance back at the bird and noticed that instead of diving and striking him, it just hovered in the sky, staring at him while it flaps its magnificent wings.
But, just as Shin was about to hope that the bird would just simply leave him alone, the clear blue skies were suddenly filled with thunderclouds clouds, and it felt like the day had just turned into night.
A chill just suddenly went down his spine as he got a terrible sensation that something terrible is just about to happen. Without putting his life in danger, he picked up his pace and began sprinting as far as he could to get away from the creature.
An unexpected loud noise filled the atmosphere, similar to that of a lightning strike. A few moments later, a lightning bolt struck the ground a few metres to his left, briefly blinding his left eye. As a result of the lightning bolt's impact, pieces of dirt struck Shin, knocking him down.
"Since when can birds summon lightning!??"
He turned his body around to look at the creature and noticed that its body started to shine brighter and brighter as it emitted mini sparks that travelled all around it, much like lightning. With all the things that were happening, one thing was certain, it was not his day today.
A second lightning strike was imminent and he was not ready to avoid it in time. The second bolt of lightning crashed to the ground a few metres to his left, and the result was temporary blindness to his left eye and a terrible burn mark. Shin squealed in excruciating pain as the lighting had given him an electrical burn on the left side of his upper cheek, near his eyes. Although the burn mark was little, the pain made him want to die as it kept getting worse and worse.
"Come on! Give me a break will you???!!!"
"I just woke up and now I'm about to die again thanks to you feathered prick!"
Panicking and crying, he noticed that the thunderclouds around the bird suddenly started to shine bright yellow sparks. Fearing for the worst, he quickly stood up and began sprinting towards the forest before the bird could cast a third lightning bolt.
"-BOOM!"
The third lightning bolt came crashing down in the location where he fell a few moments ago, just as he had predicted. Shin was fortunate enough to be able to stand and flee before the bolt could have killed him.
Several more lightning bolts struck his surroundings as he ran towards the forest, destroying everything in its path. The atmosphere thickened around Shin, and more dirt and grass flew in the air behind him with each strike.
All of the fatigue from all of the running started to catch up to him, making his legs hurt with each step he took; as a result, his speed was reduced significantly, making him an easier target to hit. The bolts got closer and closer to Shin, but he had no intention of stopping and continued to sprint with what little stamina he had left.
"Just several more metres away... Come on and Push! Push! Push!"
He kept telling himself, "Push!" despite his intention of giving up. "Push yourself!" he exclaimed as he struggled to breathe. He was speeding towards the forest, and the sound of the constant bombardment of lightning bolts came to a halt behind him, giving him hope that the bird had left him alone.
The sound of a crackling whistle grabbed his attention as it got closer and closer to him. Shin was unaware that the creature had launched its final assault on him, ensuring that he never left the fields alive.
As he entered the forest, he turned his head to catch a last glimpse of the bird, just to make sure everything was alright. However, A bright yellow light with a loud crackle caught his attention as it approached from behind him.
A loud and terrifying noise of a thump came several metres behind him, bringing a large shockwave-like sensation that sent him flying through the forest with several pieces of dirt and trees around him. The impact left a large crater in the area where it had struck, leaving the surrounding trees to be completely burned to a crisp.
Hurt badly from the shockwave, he stayed down in the cold hard dirt until he regained some of his strength back. A hot gust of air from the burning trees brushed against his hair, slowly blowing the ashes from his back. The dirt's cold sensation sent a chill through the lower half of his body. Shin groaned as he struggled to sit up straight, his entire body aching from exhaustion.
"Ow, come on... Get... Up!"
Unfortunately, the shockwave that launched him in the air caused his head to collide with a small piece of rock, wounding the right side of his forehead. He trembled in agonizing pain as the blood flowed down his head like a fountain.
"Damn... That... Bird!"
Holding his bloody head in his unsteady hands he turned around in the direction of the aftermath of the impact and was stunned at the view.
"Woah, how powerful is that flying freak??"
"Everything over here got destroyed, like... Wow."
The crater and the burning trees in front had made him speechless, but he was grateful that he managed to survive the impossible. On the other hand, Shin had no idea that by pushing himself forward, he saved his own life. The flying creature had intended to launch its attack before he even had the chance to enter the forest, but fortunately for him, he managed to outrun the intended impact site.
"That flying freak better be gone! I'm tired of almost being disintegrated by the stupid lightning strikes."
"Ouch!"
Before he had the chance to take it easy and rest, chunks of burning trees started falling near him as the fire grew closer, and with no choice left in mind, Shin began to limp deeper into the forest to avoid the raging fire behind him. Going back onto the field was not an interest to him because of what happened with the creature.
Nevertheless, the exhausted Shin continued with his already painful adventure in the new world.
