Amanda walked down the sidewalk, her backpack hanging off of her back as she looked into all the store windows she passed, thinking about all the girls at school that bullied her for being ‘poor.’ She stopped and looked at a mirror display, examining herself.

She was seventeen years old, with long blonde hair that reached down to her shoulders in waves. She had on a yellow school jacket, grey shirt, and black skirt that looked like they came from 30 years before, and her shoes had holes worn in them.

She sighed and turned away, planning on going home to grab her gymnastics gear, when she saw a small girl walking across the road to grab a small red ball. Amanda smiled as she walked toward the girl, then heard honking coming from behind. She turned to look, and instantly paled.

A big cargo truck was careening down the road, out of control, and headed right towards the girl.

Amanda’s mind and body went into overdrive as something seemed to take over her body, and she raced forward, pushing the girl out of the way seconds before the truck hit her, and the truck instead hit the blond full force, sending her flying through the air as the driver of the truck finally managed to pull the emergency brake, skidding the truck to a halt as Amanda landed on the road and rolled several feet more before coming to a stop next to the curb.

As her vision started to fade, Amanda saw the little girl standing over her with the ball, crying, and Amanda reached up to the child and patted her cheek gently while smiling, before everything went white.
