Chapter 2 – Brawl
I saw Aggie leaning on her old Bentley wearing a pale yellow blouse with lime stripes. She waved at me as I leave the building. She hugged me and I return the favors.
“Hi! How are you sweetie?” she asked. I just told her I’m fine as I got in her car to the passenger’s seat.
Aggie was my neighbor. Back in Boston, when the massacre took place, she’s the one who called the cops when she heard some fighting sound in my house. She decided to take me in with her after I’m free from Harmony. As she drove through the street down the hill, leaving the Harmony, she spoke “Look, Eona. I’m very sorry for what happened”
“It’s okay, Aggie. I would’ve done the same.”
“But I – “
“It’s alright, Aggie” I repeat. “The fact that you’re willing to take me in when my own relative won’t is good enough for me, and I appreciate it. We’re done with this conversation.”
Silence enveloped the car. I can see Aggie trying her best not to tear up from the corners of my eyes. Whenever we met, Aggie would say she’s sorry for what happened. She would say it all the time when she visited me regularly in Harmony every Saturday. It’s sometimes so frustrating. I’m not saying I hate her but I just don’t like how she keeps on bringing up the past. She must’ve felt guilty for calling the cops. I don’t blame her. She just wanted to help us – even though it went awry.
My relative on the other hand – my uncles, aunties and cousins – doesn’t seem to care about me anymore. They bought the idea that I killed my parents and so eventually, I’m an outcast to them.
We passed the corn farms at the entrance of the suburban area here, at Moonlit Creek. The grass was green and looked comforting. The trees rose steadily along the roads, forming a shade from the radiant glowing sun.
“You’re hungry?” Aggie consulted.
“I guess..” I answered. I haven’t eaten since last night.
“Okay, let’s go grab some food”
We stopped by a diner named ‘Eat n Dine’ and ordered some foods. I chose to eat some egg sandwiches with some mayonnaise and Aggie ate some omelets. We continued on our journey while conferring each other about life and how’s it going, which is quite irony considering I’m locked up in Harmony for the past five years. I told her about Gina and Jenny and the stuffs she made me do.
About 10 minutes from the diner, we’ve arrived at Aggie’s house. It’s a bit funny. Considering her attractive look and nice behavior, Aggie is still living alone. Oh, by the way, Aggie is thirty seven years old.
“Nice house” I expressed when I surveyed the front view of the house. It look nothing like her old house back in Boston. Her house was red. This is white. I carried all my stuffs inside and she helped to unpack them afterwards in my room.
“You’ll have to go to high school next month” Aggie blurted out.
“What? No way!”
“You have to, Eona,” she uttered sternly. “You should make some friends, and this is one of the way.”
“I don’t need it. I can live with myself, alone being miserable.”
I stood up and went out of the room and straight out of the house. What is wrong with her? High school, seriously? I walked along the path on the side of the road, not knowing where to go. I needed sometime alone. The air was fresh. The flowers swayed through the breeze. For a moment, I felt really peaceful. Later, I found myself alone, with no one around near a ruined building with warning signs all over, saying “DO NOT ENTER”
“Hey, new girl?”
I turned and saw two guys about my age. One was wearing a simple T shirt with some unique design on it and he was wearing a pair of black pants while the other was simply wearing a tank-top with a V neck and a pair of blue jeans.

“What are you doing here?” the one with the T-shirt asked.
I didn’t know what to say. I was at loss for words for some unknown reason. When I stayed quiet, the T-shirt guy continued on, while he thrust his fingers at himself and his friend. “Oh, I’m Drew. And this is Brad”
“Eona. Eona Guillory”
Brad smirked “Nice name, Eona. What’cha doing out here all alone?” He gestured to the sky. “It’s gonna rain soon y’know.”
“Uh.. nothing? I guess..”
Brad and Drew exchanged looks and they smiled.
“Well, if you’ve got nothing to do, why don’t you join us and c’mere and let’s have some fun” Drew whispered.
“Yea.. come on girl,” Brad agreed.
I really don’t like where this is going. “No thanks,” I declined.
“What? Come on.. ,” Brad went on.
“No. I said no. Now if you please excuse m –“
Drew grasped my hands and Brad tried to lift me up. I struggled for a bit and somehow managed to squeeze myself away from his wrath.
“Let go, pervert!” I warned Drew.
Drew, not listening, keeps on pulling me in closer. I attacked him but it seem to have very little effect, if no effect at all, to him. Brad approached my back and pressed his hand to my mouth. I bit his hand and pushed him away with my legs and then I drop to the floor and hit Drew in his nuts. Drew yelped in pain as he let go of my hands. Brad’s getting up and he tackled me.
I fall to the ground with Brad sitting on my body.
“You insolent slut!” he bawled.
My heartbeat started to rise. My head started to spin. I’m hearing voices in my head.
What the heck is happening? Are you gonna let these wretched men ruin your life? Just like how it happened before?
I swallowed my fears and managed to get my head onto Brad’s ear when he’s leaning in to kiss me. I bit his left ear as hard as I could and tore it off his head. Blood splattered onto my clothes and Brad cursed in pain. I pushed him off me, stood up and kicked his head. Drew was getting up. Before he could steady himself, I rushed to him and sweep him off the ground. He fall once again.
There was a big rock nearby. As furious as I am, I lifted the rock, ignoring my aching muscles agonizing at the weight of it. Just as Drew was about to get up, I hit his head with the rock and he fainted.
I threw the rock away and looked at Brad’s direction. He was still in pain. He stares back at me with malevolent eyes.
“You bitch!” he cursed. I left the place and went back through the path where I came from. I entered a nearby shop, trying to avoid those two men from finding me.
Then I realized. What if I killed Drew? What if they reported me to the police. Oh god… But it wasn’t my fault. They were trying to rape me. I was just acting out of defense. Right?? A lot is going on in my head. The crowds of the people in the shop does not help. I left the building and went back to Aggie’s house.
Upon arriving, I saw Aggie on her front porch, talking to someone. She got a serious look on her face. I focused my eyes on the person she was talking to. It was a man. He was wearing a blue suit and a blue hat.
It was a cop.
