Chapter 5- When in Rome do as the Romans do

The three girls escorted Reveka outside of the barely hanging there shack, after Hercul deemed her harmless, no, worse than harmless, completely vulnerable to whatever one might throw at her.

“Come this way. We must first get you to wash yourself and change those weird clothes. It’s those things’ fault that we suspected you in the first place.” Kida was the one to talk. Grasping Reveka’s arm she pulled her in the direction of the nearest house.

Only now could Reveka see the village. The small shack she had been into was located in the outskirts and it had been abandoned. They had used it as a temporary prison for her, not knowing whether to welcome the strange human or not.

The village was not too big. The houses were neatly positioned around what would be the centre of the village, from where dirt-covered roads branched off in different directions and connected each and every house.

Every building had a very homey feeling. It was a very village-like village and reminded Reveka of her much beloved historical-themed games. The girls pulled Reveka to one of the houses and knocked lightly on the door.

“Who is it?” The one to answer was a womanly voice with hints of mother-like strictness.

“It’s us.” Kida talked once again. This girl seemed like the leader of this little group of girls. Reveka deemed her charismatic. She was straightforward and spoke her mind.

The door was opened to reveal a big woman, literally big woman, not just weight, but also height and… were those muscles? The woman revealed a bright smile as she saw the girls and gave each a kiss in the cheek. Apparently she was a woman that liked to show her love. As she kissed the third girl she came to a stop while looking surprised at Reveka.

“This is??”

“That weird human we found near the forest,” said Kida with an uninterested voice.

“Mr. Hercul told us to bring her here so that you can provide her some clothes and food.” Maya talked with a voice sweet enough to melt hearts.

The woman looked at Reveka with a ‘hmm’ and then said “She clearly needs a bath. I can’t even see her face like this. Oh and,” she turned to look somewhere behind the girls, “you can come out now. She doesn’t bite.”

A sudden noise came from behind and then four boys appeared from behind some trees, looking a bit embarrassed.

“W-what are you talking about? We o-only wanted to p-protect Maya in case something happened.”

The woman smiled mischievously and looked at the boys and then girls.

“Only Maya? What about the other two?”

“Yeah right! Kida can beat all the boys in sword practice and no one’s insane enough to go near Lola with dark intentions. They’ll los- ouch!”

“Keep talking San! It would be unfair if I left it only at the left leg. I have to crush the right too, no?”

“K-Kida, I was joking, only joking, a big joke. If you want I can give up body and soul to protect you, right guys?”

“Y-yeah.” The nervous three behind the one named San could only nod their heads.

‘Yep, this girl was definitely leader type.’  The one thinking like this was the otaku NEET of the group. ‘A captain feel would suit her just right. These would be her subordinates with unrequited feelings, and we get a good reverse-harem.’ (These thoughts are just wrong in this case.)

“You, what’s your name?” The question pulled Reveka out of her dream world. She turned to look surprised at the woman who had asked.

“Ah…it’s-”

“Her name’s Revi.” Maya answered as sweetly as ever.

Not expecting Maya to answer the woman turned at her.

“It seems Revi doesn’t remember much so she finds it hard to talk.” Maya talked again explaining things making Reveka just a tad bit thankful.

“Is that so?” As she looked at her one last time, the woman finally smiled and said while giving her a big hug, “My name’s Veta, darling. Come on. We have to get you some clothes and a bath.

--Veta---

When I first saw the dirty-looking girl, she gave me a weird feeling. Seeing how dirty she was, they must have found her near the swamp, as the ground there is very muddy. Her untidy hair didn’t even allow me to at least see her eyes. She was a walking catastrophe shrouded in mystery.

When I also learned she had lost her memories I became a bit suspicious but the more I looked at her, the more harmless she looked. She looked at the loud children in a daze and didn’t talk much.

She wore weird clothes, was completely dirty and looked hungry. Yep, the more I looked at her, the more vulnerable she seemed.

‘I have to bring this poor child at her feet,’ I thought.

--Reveka---

When in Rome do as the Romans do. When in fantasy scenario, might as well follow past examples. What do I mean by past examples? Well, of course, all the hero/heroines or villains and anti-heroes and ordinary men in other worlds, reincarnation stories, mangas etc. There is more than enough material.

First, I tried my favorite, the other world gaming scenario.

“…*cough* Status.”

Nope, nothing. Such a shame. It’s very convenient when things just appear in a window and you see them.

“I wish this was a game.”

I sighed as I voiced my wish, but gave up soon on the idea. Then suddenly…

<< You have not met the requirements. Skill [Wish upon] has failed to activate,>>

Wtf?

As I heard the forever famous heavenly voice I almost jumped out of shock.

I forced myself to calm down as I almost fell and tried again.

“I wish to open the status window.”

At first nothing happened and I almost gave up again but then something appeared. It looked like a piece of transparent blue glass floating in the air. The perfect example of a fantasy scenario, just much more 3D and real.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

I looked at the information in there carefully while squealing delightfully in my heart.

<

Nickname: Revi

Age:19

Race: Unknown

Status: Alive

HP: 35/35

Average Physical Ability: 8

Average Magical Ability: ???

Titles:  ‘Bully victim’ ‘Lost faith in humanity’  ‘Gamer of the century’  ‘Genius NEET’  ‘Forgotten beauty’  ‘Broken conversationalist’  ‘Healthy shut-in’  ‘Accidental world-traveler’

Skills: ‘Speed reading’  ‘Two-hour sleep-recovery’  ‘Wish upon’

Special status: May have a few screws loose>>

Wtf?

Status: alive you say. Yes, my thought line may have gone bad a few times but what do you mean with ‘may have a few screws loose’. And average physical ability 8?! How come there is no MP. If I have no hope in being a sword user or something at least grant me the ability to do magic, will you.

I was o so angry. Was this a fantasy scenario, or not? I want cheats people. But no, my nickname became Revi, for whatever reasons my race was unknown, I had a bunch of titles I could have lived without and let alone my titles even my skills were making fun of me, hmph, of course I was angry.

Trying to calm down my nerves I checked the only thing that caught my interest since the very beginning, skill [Wish upon].

< Last successful attempt: Activated status window>

The status window was very easy to use. I simply pressed a bunch of buttons and menus and more information showed up. It even showed the conditions needed to be met to make my last two wishes come true.

My second wish had no condition so it was very easy to activate. My first wish had a few mountains. I had to travel the whole world, then find some items for immortality or something, find some strong people and kill some others. The wish depended strongly on my mental image of ‘game’. Everything that was needed was to build the ‘game world’.  The revival items were needed because games usually have restart or revival points. I had to choose people for NPC and whatnot. Meaning it was an impossible wish.

But…

I couldn’t care less about such thing at this moment. God, tell me I’m not a sinner. This skill is so awesome, a real cheat. There are no restrictions on the wish as long as the conditions are met? Really? Muahahahahahahaha.

It was a good thing I was taking a bath at the moment and no one could see me, or they could have thought I was crazy.

<>

*cough*

Anyway back to real world. I have to finish my bath.

Good thing these people I met were nice people. I wouldn’t want to end up with some dark guild and whatnot. However, I’m pretty sure they think I’m suspicious. So first things first, I have to become a little more like the people of this world and then get stronger. Why? If I had the ‘good’ luck of getting crushed by a dragon and ending up in a different world, I might have the ‘good’ luck of meeting ‘better’ things. You see how I’m oozing sarcasm.

I don’t think I can get out alive if I don’t get stronger so yeah, that’s the direction I’m heading.

…I think I’m forgetting something.

Oh, yeah, Bride. She can be considered as a cheat too. I should probably ask for her back. Will they give her back to me? It’s a weapon we’re talking about after all.

I didn’t exactly miss the loudmouth but I was starting to get a little lonely. Plus, she was the only one I could hold a proper conversation with.

***

Some time later.

I was standing before a group of people that may have forgotten to close their mouths for a few long, long seconds.

Was I that dirty?... Yes, I was but still this is a bit…

“Who the hell are you?”

“Really. I was also so shocked when I first saw her that I started doubting my eyes.”

“And that dress suits her.”

“I can’t believe I’m saying this but, maybe Lola is right.”

“About what?”

“You remember that favorite concubine theory; I’m talking about that.”

“Nah, that’s probably impossible now. If it was because of jealousy they would have ruined her face.”

This was getting completely out of hand. Did I look that weird?

“Oh, you look pretty Revi. As expected of ‘my’ master.”

Huh? This familiar voice; where have I…?

“Revi, darling, there are a lot of good unmarried boys in this village. If you want to settle here, I’m sure anyone would accept, you know?”

Oi, oi slow the hell down. The words Veta said left me completely dumbfounded.

Marry?

Who marry?

Me marry?

What?

“No way!” I said seriously.

It looks like I could get along with these people easier than I thought. If we exclude the last conversation things seemed to be going fine.

...

At that moment, were I naïve or was it the air that made me so?
