Chapter 3 - "Ominous Rain"

Chapter 3 - "Ominous Rain"

Congratulations.

Your resolve was rewarded by the Common Skill 'Intimidation'.

The skill was added to your Soulbook.

My resolve was rewarded by a skill...? I'm gonna have to clarify this situation, but not for now. I may have encountered a 'friendly' zombie, yet, I can't entirely trust him or communicate efficiently... I'm gonna have to try something.

As V looked at the skinny young man's corpse in front of her, who was gesturing weirdly, looking for peace, she placed her palm in front of him.

Puppet Lady, activation.

She knew she could transform a tree into a sort of treant and it would obey her will, but could she create an artificial soul for a zombie, or at least control it? Undead beings were often told to be 'soulless' after their reanimation. Would it work?

The 'Puppet Lady' skill was activated...

Processing orders...

A soul could not be given to the zombie, as he had already one. Finding an alternative way...

Reparation of the fragmented soul was launched. Telepathic link created!

Reparation complete, the zombie now has a full soul.

Please name the new subordinate.

Hmmm... That explains it all, undead indeed have souls, but incomplete ones. It takes lots of energy, though... I already feel dizzy, even though I ate a lot of flesh.

M was succesfully named.

Please wait for a moment...

Operation successful! You now have access to M's Soulbook.

Noooo!! I didn't want to name him that way... Shitty system. I want to rename him, I didn't even think this through.

Your mana is too low to rename the subordinate.

Please wait until it's completely replenished.

Every being naturally regain their mana, but It could take some time.

Arghhhhh!!! M is not that bad, I guess. Just like V.

The weak undead in front of her seemed to question itself, looking at her with a strange gaze.

M: Master? It seems you just named me.

V: Oh, so that's how telepathy works. I am not your master, not until I decide so. How is it that you're not like the other ones, trying to eat whatever's in their way?

M: I don't know how, but... I don't possess the common skill hunger, so it looks like I can stay somewhat rational, even with a fractured soul.

Doesn't seem to be lying... System, show me his Soulbook.

Soulbook of M

Common Skills: Super Smell, Magical Absorption.

Danger Rating: Rank E

Danger Rating? How is it that the system keeps evolving and giving me new skills... Gonna have to make it explain later. But, for now, I have my answer. His 'Hunger' skill was replaced by 'Magical Absorption', huh... I'm in dire need of answers, but we need to find a place to hide. It's starting to become difficult to stay put with all this raging wind.

M didn't need any explanation as the young girl started to seek a refuge, still fighting her inner demons.

Amidst the relentless deluge, V and M pressed on, their decayed skins more putrid than ever before. In the distance, barely discernible through the curtain of water and their bad eyesight, a faint silhouette emerged. An ancient, crumbling structure rising from the muddy wasteland. This newfound shelter pulled them forward through the treacherous terrain. As they grew nearer, the ruins began to take shape, a once-majestic edifice now weathered by time and neglect, vines spurring from the faint cracks in the ancient stone. If V had a beating heart, it would have quickened as they reached the shelter of the decaying walls. They both felt a sense of relief, despite the awkwardness that lingered between them.. The storm raged outside, but within the ruins, only a few drops of water fell to the ground. Still, they could hear the sound of the rain hitting the worn out rock outside.

These ruins lent further validation to V's theory of a previous civilization existing within the desolate wastelands.

I have 3 priorities right now... Number 1: Learn more about M, he seems more knowledgeable than me about many things. Number 2: Ask the system about the danger rating and it's constant evolution. Undeads have broken souls? Gotta learn more about that. Number 3: Where the f*ck am I! I need a safe place to stay and survival can't be my only objective for all eternity. I need to somewhat find myself a clear goal.
