15. Deathmatch

The powerful reptilian creature gazed at its surroundings, its slitted eyes narrowing in fury as it beheld the bloody and mutilated remains of its pack. They had sought to ambush Noah, anticipating easy prey, yet now they lay defeated. Rather than retreat in the face of these unexpectedly formidable adversaries, the creature defiantly held its ground, its rage boiling over.

The monster relentlessly pressed Steve, slashing at him with its claws while hissing furiously. Despite the skeleton warrior's efforts to block the attacks with his ancient Greatsword, the creature whipped Steve with its powerful tail, sending the undead warrior backward, leaving furrows on the ground.

The reptilian creature did not have a monopoly on rage, however.

Noah wasn't one to seek out confrontation. Arguing and fighting had always struck him as futile endeavors, draining both time and energy. He couldn't fathom why people allowed themselves to become so angry that they resorted to physical altercations. For Noah, life was about doing his job, returning home to his grandma, enjoying his virtual games, indulging in decent grub, and savoring a beer or two.

He had reached his breaking point, however. The relentless mental and physical anguish of the past few days had ignited a furious fire within him. Flinging a hefty rock at the creature's head, Noah's mind raced with thoughts of Voidstrider, the sinister visage of the laughing abomination, and the worry his absence must be causing his grandmother.

The reptilian horror hissed furiously as the rock struck its head, causing it to turn around just in time to witness Noah charging towards it, howling in rage. Distracted by Noah's bold advance, the creature had provided Steve with an opening. With a swift slash, Steve used his blade to strike at the monster's chest. Though the creature's thick hide offered protection, the sword managed to partially cleave through, inflicting light damage despite the resistance.

Once more, the creature lashed out with its tail, striking Steve with formidable force, sending the skeletal warrior reeling backward, just as Noah unleashed a powerful punch directly at the creature's reptilian head, channeling all of his newly acquired strength.

The monster staggered backwards, visibly stunned by the force of Noah's blow, its gaze betraying surprise at the unexpected strength of its would-be victim. Yet Noah pressed on, relentless in his assault, raining blows upon the creature's body, until the monster retaliated by slashing at him, tearing at Noah's stomach and leaving bloody claw marks.

As Noah retreated, Steve charged forward once more, unleashing a flurry of slashes with his Greatsword against the formidable monster.

Caught in an unfavorable position, the reptile used its muscular legs to leap at a large boulder, away from the range of the undead warrior's blade.

The three combatants studied each other, in this short respite in battle. Noah's ragged shirt was torn and stained with blood, his knuckles were raw from repeatedly striking at powerful monsters with his bare hands and he was panting heavily, yet there was fire in his eyes. The undead warrior remained stoic; his glowing eye sockets shimmered as his gaze rested upon the reptile. Steve's plate armor sported new dents and tears and the damage to his skeletal body glowed in a green foam.

The defiant monster refused to yield and retreat, despite its many bleeding wounds. With a menacing hiss, it lunged at Noah, who met its attack with a furious shout of his own. The battle resumed, as the two collided, wrestling and rolling on the ground. The creature's claws tore at Noah's arms while he relentlessly battered the reptile in return.

The reptilian monster recoiled with a hiss of pain, momentarily halting its assault on Noah. Steve, seizing the opportunity, thrust his blade into the creature's back as it struggled with Noah.

"Just die already!" Noah used both legs to kick the monster off of him.

The wounded creature writhed on the ground before managing to rise to its feet once more, its defiant gaze still ablaze despite the evident pain that it was in, and bleeding heavily. Steve again thrust his sword towards the creature's stomach, prompting a retaliatory slash from the beast, aimed at the skeleton.

Noah and his skeletal guardian fought in unison, when the creature retaliated against one, the other seized the opportunity to strike back. Despite the relentless assault, the monster never wavered, it was determined to continue the fight and refused to back down, regardless of its disadvantage.

Noah unleashed a primal howl as he delivered a powerful punch, aimed at the wound on the monster's stomach, driving his fist deep into the creature's abdomen. The reptile hissed in agony before gnashing its jaws weakly on Noah's shoulder as a last act of defiance and then finally collapsed to the ground.

After one final labored breath, a green cloud of mist emanated from the monster's body, hovered towards Noah and absorbed into him.

Noah panted heavily, lifting his blood-coated arm and examining it closely. He then looked at the formidable slain monster.

'Oh, you think you're done?'

"Rise! I command you to rise and protect me!"
