Following Kaius’ command, all 885 undead creatures charged forward to clash with the incoming cursed beasts. The rank 1s were made up of 17 Steelclaw Crabs and 18 Fallen Rainbow Snails; the regular cursed beasts were made up of 1600 Ironclaw Crabs and 2000 Rainbow Snails.
Although Kaius’ undead army was vastly outnumbered, he could simply resummon them as long as he had enough mana. He only needed to ensure the three Bone Lords were safe.
The 10 Flickers had already dashed forward and engaged the regular cursed beasts near the city entrance.
Slash! Slash!
The tough shells of the Ironclaw Crabs and Rainbow Snails were easily sliced through like tofu by the Flickers. In a matter of seconds, dozens of regular cursed beasts had been sliced in half.
The 10 Devourers sat back and opened the gaping maw in the middle of their bodies. They began to shoot out green acid projectiles like long range missiles.
Splash! Splash!
Globs of green acid landed on the cursed beats further inside the city and dissolved them completely within a matter of seconds.
The 12 Bruisers led the way for the rest of the undead army and finally clashed with the cursed beasts inside the city.
The Bruisers threw their heavy punches left and right, smashing all the nearby regular cursed beasts into meat paste.
Splash!
A huge glob of yellow mucus soared through the air from inside the city and landed on one of the Bruisers.
AHHHH!!!
The unfortunate Bruisers let out a painful wail as the yellow mucus dissolved its entire face. Brain matter dripped down from its exposed skull.
Thud!
The Bruiser fell backwards lifelessly onto the ground.
RAAAAAA!
The remaining 11 Bruisers became enraged at the death of one of their kind. They charged recklessly towards the 18 Fallen Rainbow Snails that were crawling out from deeper inside the city.
Swarms of Ironclaw Crabs and Rainbow Snails approached the 11 Bruisers from all directions.
One of the Bruisers had been carrying the corpse of the dead Bruiser and threw it into the crowd of regular cursed beasts.
Corpse Explosion!
Boom!
Kaius cast his spell from the city entrance and exploded the dead Bruiser’s corpse. Due to how densely packed these regular cursed beasts were, almost 100 of them got incinerated by the explosion.
Corpse Explosion! Corpse Explosion!
The corpses of the regular cursed beasts that had just died exploded as well, further fueling the current explosion and amplifying its destructive force.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Dozens of cursed beast corpses exploded at the same time, killing the cursed beasts near them. In turn, these freshly killed corpses would explode shortly after and kill other nearby cursed beasts. A chain of explosion sounded inside the city and spanned across many streets. From the outside, it looked as though the entire city was getting lit up by bloody fireworks.
Hundreds of regular cursed beasts had been eliminated just like that, leaving nothing in between the 11 Bruisers and the 18 Fallen Rainbow Snails.
RAAAA!!!
The Bruisers pounded their chests and ran forward with large strides.
The Fallen Rainbow Snails continued to spit out yellow mucus at the charging Bruisers. However, since the Bruisers were aware of the projectile attacks, they managed to use the terrain to their advantage and dodged everything.
As the Fallen Rainbow Snails were busy spitting mucus at the Bruisers, the ground underneath them suddenly started to shake.
Rumble!
Five Bloaters suddenly emerged from under the group of Fallen Rainbow Snails with their inflated bellies.
Pop! Pop! Pop!
The 5 Bloaters exploded their bodies right in the midst of all the Fallen Rainbow Snails, splashing deadly green acid all over their bodies.
Wheeze!
The Fallen Rainbow Snails rasped in pain and wanted to retreat back inside their shells; however, even their hardened shells were slowly getting dissolved by the deadly green acid.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, the 11 Bruisers rushed at the Fallen Rainbow Snails and threw out countless powerful punches directly onto their crumbling shells.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
One Bruiser grabbed a Fallen Rainbow Snail by its head and repeatedly bashed it into the ground until it turned into a bloody mess. Two white orbs of light floated out from the snail’s motionless body.
In a matter of minutes, each of the 11 Bruisers had killed one Fallen Rainbow Snail each. The remaining Fallen Rainbow Snails tried to endure the pain of their flesh getting dissolved and run away; however, the Bruisers immediately pounced on them and ended their miserable lives shortly after.
In another part of the city, the 10 Flickers tried to engage the 17 Steelclaw Crabs, who were protected by over 1000 Ironclaw Crabs.
Slash! Slash!
The Flickers zoomed around the city, slicing up Ironclaw Crabs every second. However, there were simply too many of them. The 10 Devourers were commanded by Kaius to provide support.
Splash! Splash!
Large amounts of acid rained down on the Ironclaw Crabs, causing dozens of them to die with every round of attack.
The Steelclaw Crabs became enraged and wanted to go after the Devourers, but the Flickers blocked their way.
Clank! Clank! Clank!
The Flickers dashed around the Steelclaw Crabs and swiped theirs claws, but they only managed to leave shallow white marks on the Steelclaw Crabs’ shells.
As the Flickers were busy attacking the Steelclaw Crabs, a large group of Ironclaw Crabs tried to crawl over the corpses of their fallen brethren to sandwich the Flickers while the Devourers were recharging their acid attack.
Corpse Explosion!
The corpses of the Ironclaw Crabs that had just been killed by the acid attack exploded right as the large group of Ironclaw Crabs tried to crawl over them.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A chain explosion occurred once more in the city, wiping out hundreds of Ironclaw Crabs within minutes.
With no more distractions for the next little while, the Flickers were able to completely occupy the attention of the Steelclaw Crabs.
The Flickers’ high speed made it impossible for the Steelclaw Crabs to hit them, while the Steelclaw Crabs’ tough shell made the Flickers’ attacks harmless. The two sides entered into a stalemate with no end in sight.
Seeing this situation, Kaius decided to join the battle.
Grasp of Enfeeblement!
Kaius accurately hit his spell on every Steelclaw Crab while they were focusing all their attention on the Flickers. Then, he sat back to let the Flickers accumulate True Damage on the crabs while he charged another spell.
After channeling for the maximum duration, Kaius finally let loose.
Shadow Bomb!
A large sphere of dark nether energy soared through the air and landed on one of the Steelclaw Crabs.
Boom!
A dark, shadowy explosion engulfed the Steelclaw Crab. Dirt and debris flew everywhere. The great explosive force even blew away some of the nearby Steelclaw Crabs and caused them to land on their backs.
After all the dust had settled, the hardened shell of the Steelclaw Crab had been cracked open in numerous places, exposing the soft flesh underneath.
Several Flickers immediately pounced on the vulnerable Steelclaw Crab and ripped apart its exposed fleshly body. The giant crab’s body collapsed lifelessly onto the ground. Two white orbs of light floated out from its body.
“Hmmm, I should try to keep their corpses whole,” Kaius’ facial expression showed some slight regret as he thought about all the sweet, tender crab meat that just got destroyed by the Flickers. He no longer viewed these Steelclaw Crabs as cursed beasts; instead, he saw them as delicious, oversized crabs that were just waiting to be cooked.
“Milton is about to have a great crab feast tonight!”
Kaius ran towards another Steelclaw Crab while shooting out uncharged Shadow Bombs right in its face.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Shadow Bombs caused the Steelclaw Crab to stagger sideways dozens of steps. Three Flickers swopped in and launched rapid attacks on the staggered Steelclaw Crab, causing the Vital Stacks on it to reach the maximum.
“Let’s test out my new ring’s effects,” Kaius took out Bloodthirst and activated all of his equipment’s abilities.
Augmented Movement!
Focused Strike!
Erase Presence!
Kaius turned invisible and dashed towards the Steelclaw Crab with lighting speed. Without getting noticed by the Steelclaw Crab, Kaius jumped into the air and hacked down with his impressive 150 Strength.
Slash!
Kaius easily sliced off the Steelclaw Crab’s face with a clean cut since it had lost most of its Vitality due to the Vital Stacks. The faceless Steelclaw Crab slumped limply onto the ground. With no time to examine the two white orbs of light that floated out from the Steelclaw Crab’s body, Kaius quickly stored them inside his inventory and moved onto the next Steelclaw Crab.
Shadow Bomb! Shadow Bomb!
Augmented Movement!
Focused Strike!
Repeating the same strategy, Kaius went around the battlefield and easily disposed of the rest of the Steelclaw Crabs with the support of the 10 Flickers. In the process, he collected even more white orbs of light.
[Level up!]
[3 attribute points acquired.]
[1 additional attribute point acquired due to Nether Physique.]
[Intelligence increased by 5 due to Nether Physique.]
[2 additional attribute points acquired due to Favor of the Nether God.]
The notification sound of the System rang out inside Kaius’ mind while he was killing the Steelclaw Crabs. After Kaius and his undead army took care of all the rank 1 cursed beasts inside the city, Kaius managed to level up 3 times. However, he still didn’t have the luxury of looking at his status since there were still thousands of regular cursed beasts swarming around him and his undead army.
Shadow Bomb!
Corpse Explosion!
Kaius unleashed another chain of explosions using the dead corpses of the scattered regular cursed beasts. Dozens of cursed beasts were dying every minute.
After most of the cursed beasts had been blasted into pieces, Kaius commanded his undead army to go forth and hunt down the rest. Then, Kaius found a safe spot and began to examine all the loot he obtained. One of the Bruisers came over and dropped off all the white orbs of light from the Fallen Rainbow Snails before going out again to kill the remaining cursed beasts.
Kaius first distributed his 18 attribute points evenly between Strength and Dexterity. Then, he started to go through the 70 white orbs of light.
Half of them gave out System Coins, which totaled to 10391. Adding to his current balance, he now had 48,389 System Coins.
Another 30 white orbs of light turned into skill books for other classes. Since he couldn’t use them, Kaius decided to store them inside his inventory for now. He planned on giving Lieutenant Bennet all the Guardian skill books he obtained. He also wanted to try out something later with the other skill books.
The last 5 white orbs of light gave 3 identical fist-sized stones and 2 items. Kaius examined the stones first.

“Nice, these things can strengthen my equipment,” Kaius grew excited at finding another avenue to bolster his battle strength. He decided to try out these stones after looking at the final 2 white orbs of light.
The second last white orb of light gave a small crystal shard.

“A 6km barrier… that’s enough to cover over 90% of Milton!” Kaius had not expected to obtain an item like this. “Regardless of how powerful the barrier is, it’s still another layer of defense for the city. I’ll have to rely on a bit of luck if I want to gather 20 of these shards.”
Kaius stored the shard inside his inventory and examined the final white orb of light.

“Awesome, another skill upgrade scroll!” Kaius grew ecstatic. “Hopefully this time it upgrades something good.”
Kaius immediately used it. A series of System notifications sounded inside his head.
[Skill: Nether Lord’s Aura had been upgraded.]
[Skill: Nether Lord’s Aura had changed to Skill: Nether Lord’s Authority]
Kaius examined his newly upgraded skill.
Skill (active)
Nether Lord’s Authority (100MP): decreases the base attributes of all non-controlled undead creatures within a (200 + level*6) meter radius by (6% + level/10%). Increases the base attributes of all controlled undead creatures within a (200 + level*6) meter radius by (6% + level/10%). The highest-level undead creature under the caster’s control will receive an additional 10% increase in all their base attributes. Duration: 30minutes.
Kaius looked at the skill carefully and noted all the changes, “Radius, attribute enhancement percentage, and skill duration all increased by a good margin. There’s also an additional enhancement to my highest-level undead creature. Not bad.”
Kaius was quite satisfied with this skill upgrade. Enhancing the strength of his undead army was the best way to increase his battle strength as a class that relied on summons.
After examining all the white orbs of light, Kaius went back to the Equipment Enhancement Stones. When he tried to use one on Bloodthirst, a System notification rang out inside his mind.
[Would you like to enhance Bloodthirst? Requires 1 Equipment Enhancement Stone. Y/N]
Kaius chose “Y”. One Equipment Enhancement Stone turned into a streak of blue light and went inside Bloodthirst. After not seeing anything else happen for the next few seconds, Kaius decided to examine Bloodthirst.

A brand new “(+1)” appeared beside the weapon’s name. The bonus Strength and Vitality from the sword also increased from 6 to 7, and 3 to 4, respectively.
“The enhancement is quite good,” Kaius was satisfied with the effects of the Equipment Enhancement Stone. He decided to use the remaining two on Bloodthirst to enhance it further.
With all the loot examined, Kaius commanded a portion of his undead army to bring him all the rank 1 cursed beast corpses.
A short while later, a pile consisting of 17 complete Steelclaw Crab corpses and 18 incomplete Fallen Rainbow Snail corpses appeared in front of Kaius. He managed to store all 17 Steelclaw Crab corpses inside Fay’s Ring before running out of space for the Fallen Rainbow Snail corpses.
“What a waste,” Kaius looked at the Fallen Rainbow Snail corpses in front of him with a hint of pity.
If Dio, Cenos, and Calydon were not undergoing their evolution right now, he could have at least let them feast on these corpses instead of leaving them behind. Even though he had an extra slot for Nether Lord’s Blessing after hitting level 40, he didn’t want to waste it on these lowly cursed beasts.
After getting everything he could out of these cursed beasts, Kaius joined his undead army and swept through the entire city for any remaining cursed beasts.
By nightfall, Kaius finally managed to secure the city with the help of his undead army.
Satisfied with his progress, Kaius decided to spend the night in Oakville.
The next morning, the monotonous voice of the System suddenly rang out inside everyone’s minds.
[A sufficient number of Players has reached level 50.]
[Commencing Main Phase II.]
Everywhere around the world, all the 10-meter-tall green portals began to expand and transformed into 20-meter-tall yellow portals.
The number of regular zombies and cursed beasts poured out of the portals at twice the rate as before. Rank 1s were walking out of the portals by the dozens. Even rank 2s had emerged from a few portals.
“Shit! How did we get to Main Phase II already?” Kaius was jolted wide awake by the System’s notifications. “Tutorial Phase lasted an entire year, but Main Phase I only lasted a few months. I need to head back to Milton right now!”
Kaius got out of bed and started to sprint towards Milton.
…
Somewhere in the United States of America.
Inside a massive mansion, a man in his 50s sat behind a desk in a luxurious study room, going through various reports.
Knock. Knock.
Someone knocked lightly on the door to the study room.
“Godfather, we’ve received unfortunate news about young master Antonio and young master Alonzo,” a respectful voice sounded from outside the study room.
“Come in,” the man sitting behind the desk responded.
The door to the study room was pushed open gently. A man in a butler uniform walked in and bowed respectfully towards the man behind the desk.
“Godfather, we’ve lost signal to the electronic devices that tracked the vital signs of young master Antonio and young master Alonzo within minutes of each other. I’m afraid they’ve both passed away,” the man in the butler uniform reported.
The man referred to as Godfather paused his reading of the document in front of him and frowned, “I had low expectations of those two failures to begin with, but to think they still managed to disappoint me. What was their last location before the signals disappeared?”
“Their last known location was in Milton, sir,” the man in the butler uniform replied.
“Milton? Which state is that, Sergio?” Godfather asked.
“It’s not in the US, Godfather, it’s in Ontario, Canada,” Sergio clarified.
“They both died in a backwater place like that? They’re a disgrace to the Valentino family,” Godfather let out a disappointed sigh. “Pass down my orders to Johnny. Have him lead his Burning Legion up north. Since the Canadian government has fallen, it’s about time we made Canada into the 51st state of America.”
“As you wish, Godfather,” Sergio respectfully complied. “Also, regarding the commencement of Main Phase II…”
“Other countries might have difficulty defending, but we’re more than capable of handling rank 2s,” Godfather waved his hand dismissively. “Also, provide Johnny whatever resources he needs. His forces will act as a line of defense in the north going forward.”
“I shall pass down your orders, Godfather,” Sergio bowed slightly and left the study room.
…
Somewhere in northern Canada.
A beast portal stood tall atop the snowy plains. It was a few dozen kilometers away from the entrance to an underground bunker where all the Canadian politicians fled to.
The underground bunker spanned a large area and could produce enough food and water to feed over 3000 people.
Around 200 politicians, 2000 military personnel and all their immediate family members resided within this underground bunker. The 200 politicians were the highest-ranking politicians in the country, while the 2000 military personnel consisted of the highest-level Players from the Canadian Army.
Over the past few months, the people residing inside the bunker had been growing their own vegetables, boiling the surrounding snow into drinkable water, and hunting the cursed beasts from the nearby beast portal as a source of meat. Overall, their lives inside the bunker had been quite safe and comfortable.
Today was just like any other day. The high-level Players went outside to hunt for cursed beasts. Several military personnel possessed the Beginner Mana Cooking Techniques skill, so they had no problem turning cursed beasts into edible meat.
A squad of 20 Players were fighting several rank 1 cursed beasts a few kilometers away from the beast portal. There were 5 guardians, 5 warriors, 4 assassins, 2 mages, 2 rangers, and 2 clerics. Using their superior strength and numbers, the rank 1 cursed beasts quickly fell to a disadvantage.
An assassin class Player sneaked behind a rank 1 cursed beast that looked similar to a polar bear while his teammates were distracting it.
Backstab!
The rank 1 cursed beast’s head was sliced off cleanly from its neck.
Thud!
The headless body of the rank 1 cursed beast fell to the ground.
“Looks like we’re having bear meat tonight!” The assassin Player that just killed the rank 1 cursed beast held up the bear’s severed head and celebrated.
“Good job, Wilson,” A person wielding a magic staff praised.
Right at this moment, the sound of System notifications rang out inside their minds.
[A sufficient number of Players has reached level 50.]
[Commencing Main Phase II.]
“Main Phase II!” A bow user exclaimed in shock.
“How is it Main Phase II already?!” A sword wielding Player’s expression turned gloomy.
All the high-level Players suddenly became alarmed at the unexpected announcement.
“Let’s finish up here quickly and retreat back to the bunker,” A person wearing a General-rank military uniform commanded. “It’s not safe for us to hunt out here in the open anymore.”
“Roger that, General Evans,” A Player that wore a full suit of armor acknowledged.
The squad of 20 Players intensified their attacks. Roughly 5 minutes later, they finished off all nine rank 1 cursed beasts in the area.
“I want two people to carry each of the rank 1 corpses,” General Evans commanded. “Girard, you lead the front, I’ll guard the back. Let’s move!”
Eighteen Players quickly formed into pairs and grabbed onto a rank 1 corpse each. Girard, the person in the full suit of armor led at the front, while General Evans brought up the rear.
Wilson, who was carrying the bottom half of a rank 1 corpse, walked slightly in front of General Evans, and brought up some small talk.
“General, is it really alright for us to hide underground like this? We’re soldiers. Aren’t we supposed to serve and protect the people and our country?”
Hearing this subject brought up, General Evens’ expression turned bitter, “It’s not like I want to keep hiding either. If we weren’t so arrogant back then and provoked a rank 2, we wouldn’t have lost over 70% of our forces. Our entire country probably got overrun by zombies and cursed beasts by now. All we can do is hold on for as long as we can and hope the other countries can come to our aid.”
Wilson finally became clear of their situation and his expression turned gloomy. Along the way, the squad walked in silence.
Shortly after General Evans’ group left the area, four humanoid figures stepped out from the beast portal. One of them sniffed the air for a bit before signalling the other three figures to follow.
Some time later, the squad finally reached the hidden entrance to the underground bunker.
Girard knelt down and swept away the snow that covered the bunker door. He gently knocked on the door with a specific rhythm. A few seconds later, the sound of gears turning could be heard. The door to the bunker slowly opened.
“You guys are back!” The person that opened the bunk door greeted with a smile. “Everyone all safe?”
“Yeah,” Girard nodded. Then, he pointed to the rank 1 corpses they brought back, “Help us bring these inside quickly. We need to stay underground for a while and assess the changes during Main Phase II.”
“Understood,” the person that opened the door nodded with a grim expression.
Right as the squad was about to bring the rank 1 corpses inside the bunker, a disdainful voice sounded out from a few dozen meters behind them.
“Looks like we’ve found the home of a group of insects.”
Girard turned around at the unexpected voice and immediately cast a skill.
Shield Wall!
An enormous translucent barrier covered the entire squad.
At the same time, other members of the squad cast their own respective skills and entered into battle mode.
“Who are you people?” General Evans turned to face the group of four newcomers. Squinting his eyes, he couldn’t believe how these four people managed to appear so close behind them without being noticed.
The morning sun shone brightly from the newcomers’ backs, obscuring their appearance.
“People? Don’t lump us together with you lowly species,” said one of the figures with a sneer.
The four figures stepped out from under the glaring sunlight and revealed their appearance.
Each of them had a humanoid body. Their faces looked human except for the lion ears that poked out from their heads and the long and furry tail that extended out from their lower back. There were two males and two females.
One male had an extremely muscular body and stood at 2.3m tall; his entire body was covered in a suit of dark metal armor. The second male had a fit build and a height of 1.9cm; he donned a light chainmail and long leather pants. The two females had lithe figures that curved in all the right places and stood at 1.7cm; they both wore leather body armor and shorts.
If one ignored their lion ears and tails, their looks would be considered quite attractive by human standards. Although, some people might even be into the lion ears and tails.
Looking at their appearance, Girard’s body tensed up all over and his pupils shrunk to the size of a pin needle. He couldn’t help but utter in disbelief, “Rank 2s!”
“Seriously? And there’s four of them!” Wilson lamented their bad luck.
“Ned, go call backup now! We’ll hold them off for as long as we can!” General Evans shouted at the person that opened the bunker door.
Ned nodded and jumped back down inside bunker right away to sound the alarm.
“Rank 2? Don’t insult us,” One of the females with a slender figure scoffed. “We’re not the same as those primitive beasts.”
General Evans got a bad feeling after hearing this. He didn’t want to find out the truth but cast his skill anyway.

“Rank 3s!!!” General Evans muttered in complete shock. He already had low confidence in winning against four rank 2s. Now that he confirmed they were up against four rank 3s, General Evans could only think of one possible outcome for his side.
Total annihilation.

Author’s Note: Chapter 30 marks the end of the first book. I never could have imagined a few months ago that my little side hobby would turn into a 110k word book!
I want to give a huge THANK YOU to all my readers! Your support has encouraged me to continue writing and believe it or not, your feedback had a significant impact on the story!
I will try my best to improve my writing skills and make the story more interesting going forward. But with my busy day job, most of my free time is spent just trying to finish up one chapter a week. Since it’s my first time writing a novel, my writing speed is pretty slow, so on average I spend about 9 hours on each chapter.
So where do we go from here?
First of all, of course book one had to end on a cliff-hanger! Chapter 30 is already the longest chapter in this book, so if I had to write more and tie up all the loose ends, I’ll probably pass out from exhaustion!
Secondly, since it’s the start of a new book, I want to take some time to properly plan out all the major plot points and incorporate all your valuable feedback from book one. I will also be taking some personal time off from work to go on an actual vacation! Which is why the first chapter of book two will be released on October 1.
Thank you again for all your support!
