CHAPTER THREE: BACK TO TOWN
Upon reaching the gate I get stopped by a guard, who I swear wasn't there when I left. He gives me a look over, raising his eyebrows at my muddy pants, then lets me through. I start walking down the street, and stop at the general store. I start to head in, but realize it would probably be better to visit a tailor to get a new set of clothes, and clean this set. I turn back to the main street and look for a shop with a sign that would suggest it belonged to a tailor.
Ten minutes later, and way down the street from the general store, he found the tailors shop. ‘Peratha's Tailoring’ was the name displayed on the sign above the door. A simple name, straight and to the point. I walk in and look around. Over by a window there is a set of mannequins, wearing fancy clothing. Along the opposite wall are shelves full of different types and sizes of pants and shirts. It looks kinda like a normal clothes store from the real world, like ‘Old Navy’, or ‘The Gap’. I look around at the selections. Some pretty nice options are up. Many of the pants are simple jeans or burlap, but I see cotton pants, wool pants, and silk pants thrown in. I have 69 silver to work with, so I look for the cheapest but most comfortable. I end up grabbing a couple pairs of the ones that look like jeans, in a darker colour. I grab a single pair from the most expensive cubby. It's worth a whole fifteen silver, but it auto resizes, and tells you what size it turns into. I try those ones on to get my size before grabbing any others. I end up grabbing three other pairs, adding up to 15 silver. That’s 30 silver spent so far. I grab an auto resizing shirt, also in a darker colour, from a different cubby. It costs only ten silver, and I try it on as well. I grab only 2 pairs of non-auto resizing shirts, both worth only 2 silver, 50 copper. That makes 45 total silver on clothes. I sigh, regretting how much silver I’ll have to spend, but bring my purchases up to the counter. Peratha is very helpful, and we get the trade done in seconds. My trading skill goes up by a whole level, much to my surprise, but I don't get to have any discounts. I make sure to give her a tip though, as I want to be able to keep up relations in the future. I pull up my Gains and Losses screen.

Seemingly A lot more gains than losses, but it doesn't show my ruined pants. I guess it doesn't count that as a loss. I leave the store, and start looking for a smithy. If I follow through on my plans to go into the woods, I’m gonna need some form of sword. The smith is actually in the direction of the gate rather than towards the center of town like the tailor. I head in that direction, noticing more people on the streets than there was earlier. Perhaps it was early for them, and they just got up. I ignore it, and keep walking.
It's a very short walk, and I get to the smithy, only five shops later. ‘Bardford Smithy’ is the name on the shop. Very uncreative, and I doubt it's the only smithy in town. I head on in. By the entrance there is a bin labeled ‘Cheap Swords, 10 Silver Each’, with a warning about sharpness underneath. Further back, there are some clearly High quality swords. Right next to the counter is a rack of custom swords. In the back corner on the other side of the counter is a small smithy workspace, but somehow i doubt it is the actual workspace that gets used. At the counter, someone is arguing with the smith. I hear multiple times about cheap products, and the smith says something about grabbing from the value bin. Once hearing that, I immediately decide that grabbing from the value bin would be a bad idea. However looking at the racks of swords closer to the door, most of the ones outside of the value bin are well over the 18 silver I have. I spot one for 15 silver, but it might not be a good sword, if the value ones are already 10 silver. I use inspect on it to learn more, and also check my knife for comparison

It has a longer reach and higher damage, but why is it so many times more expensive than my higher quality knife. A knife made out of a higher level material I may add. The sword also has a lower percentage of durability. I bring it up with the smith.
“Oh. That's one of my older swords. You’ll find in the long run that it has a higher quality than that knife. The knife was produced en masse by a supplier out of town, whereas my swords are made with metals from the valley, and are handcrafted. As for durability, it's a used sword. It’ll last you much longer, without the quality diminishing than that knife will.”
I look at him with doubt, but hand over the fifteen silver, and leave. It's time to go do a bit of exploring.
