Four months ago, at the Redmond observatory in Greenland, my girlfriend of six months, Sumati Adwani “Sam,” and I were waiting for a meteor shower event called “The Enshrounding Belt.” Our Professor of astronomy, Mr. Cox, instructed us to watch the show from the observatory, but Sam’s enticing persuasion made me join her outside. I threw on one of her hoodies without thinking about wearing a bra or a shirt underneath. We sat on a rocky hill in the cold to wait for the event to happen for ten minutes. Nothing but motionless stars stood over us.
“Sam, did Cox just waste our time?” I said. Sam pulled me closer to her by tugging on my inner thigh.
“Be patient, babe,” she replied in a soothing voice. The tone in her words with her hand touching my inner leg, aroused me not in a sexual way. I stopped caring about the meteor shower and began teasing her with kisses on her neck. “Babe, pay attention, or you’ll miss it.”
“Kiss me, and I’ll stop.”
“Fine.” We made out for like one freaking second. It almost felt like a long single kiss. She left me drunk with the craving of wanting more. “Satisfied?”
“Bitch,” I said, laughing. “I want more.”
“You’ll get it after once we’re in our rooms. Calm down. This once-in-a-lifetime moment.”
I was a needy woman back then. Kisses, touching, and foreplay were my daily attractions to combat the stress of being a veterinary nurse and a college student at the same time. If she wasn’t around or too busy with whatever, a couple of cold glasses of beer were the go-to. So, I genuinely felt a bit mad that she wanted to wait, but I quickly understood her position once I saw the first passing showers.
“Sam! Look!” I said, pointing to the sky.
“Ah, I see them!” Glowing white rocks littered the sky in a trail of light. They flew over our heads, moving south past the observatory. It lasted twenty seconds, with the last streak being red and pink. “Did you see that?”
“Mhm!” We kept searching the skies just in case there were stragglers, but none came after a minute. “Okay, I guess that’s it.”
“Well damn. Looks like it’s time I give you what you want.” My stomach filled with butterflies when she pulled me closer. I crawled in her lap like a cat, ready to snuggle into their owner’s comfort. She fondled my messy hair, tugging on certain areas of my head to arouse me with minor pain. “You really wanted this, hm?”
“Yeah,” I lightly moaned.
“Your such a freak, Nikki.”
“After six months, now you tell me?” We laughed like gossiping children, then suddenly, a red meteor flew over us. “Whoa!” It was lower than the previous shower. The light from it illuminated the field we were in.
“Oh? Did I touch a sensitive spot?” Two more meteors flew by and smacked into each other. They deflected to the west and east after a big flash of light. “Whoa! What was that light?”
“Look up, Sam.” The moment she gazed at the skies, the two meteors that flew the opposite way came back at a rapid speed. They were followed by what looked like the first shower. Everything clashed and sparked as if someone lit massive fireworks into the sky. “Is this a part of the Enshrouding Belt?”
“I don’t know.” These rocks kept smacking into each other, lighting up the sky like a rave party. “This is something else entirely.”
“Must be a follow-up.” I watched in awe, yet confused as to what the hell I was seeing. These were supposed to be massive rocks, yet they were changing course and crashing into each other.
“I’m glad we took this class together.”
“This isn’t normal,” I said out loud to myself as I calmly got out of her lap to sit beside her.
Before I could ask Sam how odd the meteors were acting, something inside me forced all the air out of my lungs. There was a loud bang coming from the observatory. My body went numb, and everything went dark. Her scream faded from my ears. I was lost in darkness, but only for a moment. At that time, I heard a woman’s voice with a thick European accent I didn’t recognize. She kept apologizing, then said, “Wake up! Wake up! Please get up!” All my other senses came back in an instant shortly after. My body felt heavy as if someone was lying over me.
“Nikki, oh my god,” Sam said with a shaky voice.
“Sam,” I slurred in what sounded like my mouth was filled with saliva. “Who was yelling?”
“Yelling?” She kept glancing at something around my shoulders and on the ground behind me. “Me, you idiot!” I was confused. Sam didn’t have any accent, nor an Indian one, so whoever spoke to me wasn’t around. “Oh my... Oh my...”
“What are you looking at?”
“Oh, god, Nikki,” she said, gagging. Her gags were so forceful she threw up the water she had before we came out here.
“Sam...?” I tried lifting my arm to reach for her, but they barely lifted off the ground. She kept whispering to herself with words of encouragement, then gained the strength to come to check me out.
“How are you still alive?”
“I... I don’t understand. What are you talking about?”
“Babe, there’s so much blood behind you. You’re bones and guts are in the mix too.”
“What?” I couldn’t comprehend what she was saying. She started crying in a silent voice while taking out her phone. I cried with her, fearing the unknown of what was happening to me. “How bad is it?”
“I’m gonna turn on the light.” The light from her camera hovers over my chest. It revealed a small hole near my right tit. She ripped it open wide enough to show the entirety of my chest and parts of my stomach. “Huh? What the fuck?”
“Oh, god. Am I gonna die?”
“Wait, hold on.” Slowly, she rubbed her fingers around my nipple, then moved my tit in different directions with caution.
“What the hell are you doing?”
“Nikki, you’re... It’s...”
“It’s what?!”
“Babe, you have a nasty scar covering your entire nipple.” She rolled me to my left to feel the right side of my back. “There’s no hole?”
“Huh?” For a minute, she kept touching the two areas with a delicate rub, pinch, and poke.
“This is so weird. Are you breathing okay?”
“I’m alright.”
“Are you in pain?”
“No. I feel like I’ve gained like fifty pounds.”
The woman that told me to get up came back into my head. Her voice echoed in a whisper-like yell, saying something. Every word she spoke was too reverberated for me to understand.
“The fuck is going on?” I said, scrunching up my face. The echoes slowly fade out into an auditable word. I heard my name, then somehow, my strength magically returned to me in full. I turned around to see what Sam saw behind me. It was a gruesome sight, but my stomach was more robust than hers. “Holy fuck! Did that come from me?”
“Yeah! There was a big explosion! And... dirt flew into my face!”
“Get a picture of my back.” When I pulled up my hoodie over my head, she shrieked. Her voice echoed down the mountain. I jumped to my feet in a panic with my hoodie covering my head. “What is it?!”
“Your hands are on fire!” I freaked out, screaming and slapping myself to put out the fire. It didn’t come off, but I stopped yelling when I realized it didn’t burn. The fire also wasn’t burning my leaves either. My skin was fine; even the tiny black hair on my forearms stayed put. I put my hands up to my face to closely examine it. It wasn’t bright, and I could see through it.
“Sam?” I said, looking at her shielding her eyes. “What the heck is going on right now?”
“Hey!” Someone yelled from the observatory. The fire on my hands turned into frost when I turned around to see who was behind me.
“The fuck?” I whispered, loudly. “My hands look frozen?!” But they weren’t. They were fogging up like someone put water on dry ice.
“What are two doing over there?”
“Nothing too troubling!” Sam shouted back, pulling me close to her by my shoulders. She whispered in my ear, saying, “Quickly, put on my jacket. We swapped clothing. I zipped up her coat to my neck. The person who yelled at us came over with a flashlight. They got close enough that I could see it was Professor Cox. He shined his light on us but beamed it down at the bloody mess.
“Good God almighty!” He said, taking a step back. “What happened here?”
“Looks like animal leftovers,” I said.
“Mhmm! Must’ve had a big meal,” Sam added to the lie.
“Jesus. You two better head back to your mobile homes before whatever did that comes back.”
“Yes, sir.” Sam clutched her arms around my left arm while we walked down the hill. When we passed Professor Cox, she moved in front of me. I looked at the giant hole in her hoodie. It had my blood-stained on the rim of the ripped fabric.
“Oh my... What the hell hit me?” I asked myself as I looked around. It was too dark to see anything out of the ordinary. I squinted my eyes on a dark rock I was coming upon. My vision suddenly turned up the brightness and made everything clear. I could see as if it was daytime, but everything had a muted blueish hue. “Sam, something is happening to my eyes.”
“Oh god, what’s happening?”
“I literally can see in the dark.” She turned around to see me.
“You’re eyes are glowing!”
“Excuse me?! Let’s get to our rooms. I need to see what the fuck you’re talking about.”
We jogged back to the mobile homes in a frantic hurry. I tripped inside a small divot in the ground, but instead of falling, I floated uncontrollably down the hill at the speed I was running at. My ass skidded across the ground for maybe thirty feet before my heels stopped me. The impact and distance tickled more than what I feared might hurt like hell.
“Holy shit! Are you okay, babe?” Sam yelled in a whisper.
“I’m fine. It didn’t hurt.”
We finally entered our room after a short brush-in with another professor, wandering the homes. I had to act like I was sleeping just so I could hide my eyes from him. The first thing I did was take off the jacket then ran into the bathroom to see what the hell Sam saw with more light.
“My nipple is gone!?” I yelled. I looked at Same through the mirror. She had her hands together over her mouth as she sat on the bed looking at my back. I turned sideways to see the damage. It looked like someone threw a bucket of dark pink paint on me. My ribs were intact from what I felt, yet my blood stained my skin. “It looked like I was shot by the biggest bullet ever.” The colors of my iris were pinkish red. They looked like a miniature Milky Way floating in my eyes. “The fuck is going on with me? What the fuck hit me?”
“There was a loud bang that came from the observatory.”
“I heard that before I blacked out. Did you see where it came from?”
“I don’t know.” With everything I witnessed, I felt the need to search for what caused this.
“I’m gonna go check the observatory.”
“What? Right now?”
“Later when everyone is sleeping.”
Hours later, I committed to my word. Sam and I investigated the face of the building to see what made that loud bang. She didn’t want to use her light just in case we got caught. It made it hard for her to help me. I, on the other hand, saw everything plainly, but no sign of something off.
“Where the fuck is it?” I whispered. I stepped back to see the whole side that faced the hill we were on. When I looked up at the dome, there was an indentation on a square panel near the bend. “I think I found it.”
“Up there? How are we going to get that?” An idea popped into my head, but it felt far-fetched. I thought of the moment I floated down the hill as if the gravity turned off. Maybe I could do the same going up.
“I can try floating up to it.”
“Floating? You mean flying, right?”
“I guess so.”
“What are you, the superheroine, Wonderous?” She chuckled at me, but I remained silent. “Wait, you think you can fly?”
“Let me see.” I prepped myself by performing small jumps just to see what would happen at different heights. Every jump felt normal. “Fuck! It’s not working.”
“Maybe you really can’t fly.”
“Then how did I fall in a straight diagonal line?” For one final attempt, I squatted with my right knee on the ground. “Come on. I know what I saw.” I jumped into the air, shooting past the observatory and into the night sky. “Oh god, oh god, oh god! Sam!” My body began twirling uncontrollably. “What do I do?!”
Every second I could see the ground get further and further. I was panicking so hard that I started hyperventilating. The moment I couldn’t see the lights below me, I thought I would die from going too high in the atmosphere. That thought made me blackout from fear of suffocation. When I woke up, I was suspended motionless in the air facing the stars.
“I’m alive?” I said, holding my stomach. “Am I in space?” The second I turned my head to the right, my entire body faced the Earth, and then I slowly descended back down. “Whoa, easy now, Nikki.” My heart rate was beginning to rise again, so I had to take deep breaths to prevent myself from panicking again. The lights came into view, and I saw Sam waiting for me. “Sam!” She raised her hands like she was gonna catch me. It made me laugh at how stupid it looked.

“Nikki,” she shouted in a gentle voice. I came into her arms as I gently landed on the ground. We cried and kissed and laughed. “I’m so glad you’re okay.” I didn’t have anything to say since my emotions were overwhelming me. “You can fly, babe!” The reminder reminded me of what I was supposed to do before I got hurled into the sky.
“Oh, I need to see what’s up there.” I looked back up to the indented panel. She walked with me to the side of the building with our hands tightly held. I slowly ascended until she couldn’t hold me anymore. My balance was all over the place.
“Be careful, babe.” Once I made it at eye level, I could see it was a meteorite. Inside the holes, it was glowing with the same spectrum of colors as my eyes. I grabbed it with my left hand then felt this strange pulsating pressure go into my palm. It felt pleasant and warm, then I saw images of a beautiful woman in a black dress. Her hair, lips, and makeup around the eyes were all dark. “Nikki, are you okay?”
“Yeah,” I said softly. “I’m coming down.” I had to act like I was swimming through the air to float down without swaying all over the place. She caught me and brought me to my feet the second I felt my weight drop. “Whoa!”
“What?”
“It felt like gravity turned on.” I did small jumps to see if I would float again. “Why am I don’t floating?”
“Let’s not do that, okay?” She said, pressing down on my shoulders. “I don’t want another heart attack.” The thought of driving back into the car made my heart sink into my gut.
“So... is that what went through you and gave you those scars?” She reached a finger out to touch the meteorite, but I pulled it away before her nail could touch it.
“Don’t touch it. Who knows what’s on it. What if it’s radioactive?”
“Meteorites are not radioactive, babe.
“Then why is it glowing?”
“Glowing? I don’t see that.” I was surprised she didn’t see what I was witnessing. This thing pulsated like a red light on top of a radio tower. “What do you see?”
“It’s glowing reddish-pink like my eyes.” An exit door to my left unlocked and swung open. Without hesitation, I grabbed Sam by her waist and instantly bolted to our mobile home. We traveled several feet in a blink of an eye. She was still in the same stance when she was at the observatory, looking at the door.
“Someone’s coming,” she said then looked around. She pointed at the observatory, at the ground, then back at the observatory. “How did I get here?”
“I ran... you over here?”
“You what?” She said, dropping her head with her eyes looking up at me. “How am I not dead? How are you not dead?”
“I don’t know,” I stuttered severely. “What the hell is going on with me?” At that moment, I began to put two and two together. Whatever was in that meteorite, it changed me and gave me unimaginable abilities. “Uh,” I paused, lifting the rock to our eye level. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
“Oh my god, Nikki!” She shrieked then whispered in my face with her fingers over her mouth. “You’re one of them now.” She seemed excited saying that. Her statement gave me chills. This was so unexpected that I didn’t know if I should panic or show the same joy.
“Shit.”
“Oh my gosh, babe. This is exciting. My girlfriend has superhuman powers!”
“Relax. You’re freaking me out.” I went into our mobile home to help myself relax and hide the meteorite in my backpack.
“How am I freaking you out?” She said with a raised eyebrow.
“A fucking rock went through me! I should’ve died!”
“Whoa, easy,” she said, soothing my arms. Her efforts failed to calm me down.
“This thing gave me ugly scars, glowing eyes, and a plethora of random shit!. It’s too overwhelming!”
“Alright, alright. Okay... Calm down.”
“I need to sleep.”
“Yeah. Sleep will do us some good.” We took off all of our clothes and got into bed together. She spooned her body against the curve of my body. Her hand gently traced the circumference of the scar on my back.
“Does it feel weird?” Two fingers went back and forth from my scar to the center of my spine.
“Not at all.”
“What a fucking night.”
After she fell asleep, I couldn’t stop thinking about how I didn’t die. What would she have done if I died in a manner like that? The images haunted me so much that I had to sneak to the bathroom to cry away from her.
“God, why me? Why the fuck do I have this?” I whispered, looking at my eyes. “What the hell am I supposed to do with this shit?” As I said the word shit, I pushed my fingers down on the sink table. My fingers went into the marble like a hot knife cutting butter before shattering the bottom portion into pieces. “Shit.” I crossed my arms over my chest, fearing something else would happen. “Fire, ice, night vision, flight, speed; strength. All from a rock?” My attention went back to viewing the scar that replaced my nipple. “This can’t be real,” I said, bouncing and squeezing my tit. “I must be in a nightmare.”
For the rest of the night, I clung to Sam to help me sleep through the night without any problems. The following day, our class returned to our campus in Redemsia City Texas. I had to wear my sunglasses to hide my eyes from everyone on the plane. Sam and I agreed that I should keep my powers a secret. My biggest worry was accidentally or intentionally using my abilities and being exposed to the world. All I wanted was to finish college and live an adventurous life with Sam, but it became complicated when I was forced to use my newfound powers three months later.
An eco-terrorist named Rayan let hell rip through Redemsia. Sam and I were eating a bomb-ass breakfast outside a newly open restaurant when spikey roots tore up the roads we were near. One root threw chunks of concrete into the building next to us. I had to use my speed to bring her out of harm’s way. Luckily no one saw me run into the restaurant with her. They were too busy watching the chaos outside. The green grotesque flower monster grew through the outside door and into the restaurant. It impelled three people before targeting Sam.
“No!” I said, putting myself in front of her and one hand out to the root. It stopped inches from my hand. The thing was shaking violently. I took a step forward, and it moved back. It looked like it was fighting against something, using all its strength to go forward. When I closed my hand, an invisible force squished and severed the tip clean off. It squealed like a pig as it ran out of the restaurant. I stayed frozen with my hand still up, shocked at what I saw. “What did I just do?” I asked myself out loud.
“Nikki,” Sam whispered in my ear, slowly putting my arm down. “We need to go.” People around stared at me as if I had done something wrong. I felt overwhelmed, so I swooped Sam in my arms, took off far away from the destruction by running, and then flew with a lot of turbulence on top of a building. “Jesus, Nikki. We still got some work to do on carrying flight training.”
“Nevermind that! Are you okay?” I said, nearly shitting myself from almost seeing her die.
“I’m horrified but fine.”
A pair of supers flew over our heads like slow-moving fighter jets, heading toward the monster. I recognized one of them as Wonderous. She was the world’s first known superbeing during the ancient Roman period. But the other guy I didn’t. He looked like a black man with yellow lightning discharging off his body. Weirdly, it didn’t arch to her even though she was an arm’s length away. He saw me and smiled. The moment was short due to the speed he was flying, yet in my eyes, it felt longer.
“Who was that guy?” I said.
“What? How do you not know Man O War?!” Sam said.
“But, I rarely follow these guys. I barely know any of them.”
“Well, I rarely see MOW on TV, but I hear he’s cool.” His smile was engraved into my mind. I didn’t know why he did that, but I kinda found it pretty. After what I saw, it was refreshing to know he and Wonderous were heading to deal with that thing.
“Hey,” Sam said, giving me a gentle elbow nudge to my arm.
“What?”
“So, what you did back there. What was that?”
“Another stupid discovery,” I said, crossing my arms and ducking my head down.
“Did you create a force field or stop it with your mind?” I wasn’t gonna answer her burning curiosity. Plus, I didn’t know what I did. “What’s wrong, babe?”
“Why are you questioning what I did? You should be thanking me for saving you and getting us out of there.”
“Sorry, babe. Thank you for saving me.” She tried giving me hugs and kisses to reverse being excited about my new power. None of it worked until she took a hand full of my left ass cheek.
“Sam!” I shrieked in laughter.
“Sorry, but not sorry.” Our little fun time was interrupted by massive earthquakes. The shakes were so violent that the building under our feet collapsed. She jumped on my body, securing her arms and legs around my waist. “Oh shit!” A few buildings around the area also fell, and then massive thorny roots came out of the rubble. One rushed to me, and I had to fumble through the air with her hanging on for dear life.
“Hold on tight!” My sunglasses flew off my eyes when I made a quick descent to the ground. I didn’t care to go searching for it since I had to keep flying. The thorns took us out into the streets, moving back near the restaurant we were in. I could hear Wonderous’s fierce shouts echoing through the streets alongside what sounded like muffled low bass explosions.
“What the hell is that?” I moved closer to the sound to find it was Wonderous’s punches creating shockwaves. She zipped all over the place to avoid getting hit while trying to attack. “She looks like she’s struggling. Maybe you should go help her.”
“What?! Are you fucking nuts?!” She disagreed with her statement and agreed several times before putting her foot down on her original statement.
“You have the abilities to assist.” A thorn suddenly wrapped around my legs. It prevented me from flying off no matter how hard I tried.
“Get off me!” I kept pulling away, but its hold brought me closer to the ground. “Get off!” I let out a loud scream and aimed my palms at it. Fire flowed out like a liquid fire from a flamethrower, burning the root all the way down into the ground.
“Holy shit, NIkki! That was intense.”
“Hey you,” a man yelled behind me. I didn’t recognize the voice, so I turned to see who said it. It was Man O War calling for me. He wasn’t black like I originally thought but mixed with Asian. His hair was short and curly. There was lighting circling him like a Tesla coil arching. “Who are you?”
“No one,” I said immediately. He looked at Sam and gave me the impression he wanted to know her name, so I spoke for her. “Don’t even ask.”
“Fine,” he said, raising his hands like he was surrendering.
“What do you want?” I said, adjusting my grip around Sam to keep her secured to me.
“Judging by the fact your floating and fire came out of her hands, I think we could use a little help.”
“No thanks!”
“No?” Sam said. “Go help them!” More buildings shook from the earthquake. “Take me to the park near your parent’s home. I’ll be safe there.” I couldn’t comprehend what to do, so I froze. “Hey, it’s okay. This is the chance to show the world what you can do.”
“We agreed to keep this a secret, Sam,” I said, holding myself back from yelling at her. “I don’t want them to know what I am. These guys can handle it.”
“I know, but you should use those gifts to help.” She cupped her palm on my cheek as she deeply gazed into my eyes. Her brown eyes put me in a trance. The screaming from the people below and emergency sirens became muted from how focused I was. “Come on, superwoman. Hiding truly won’t do us good. It’s unhealthy.”
“How can you know that? We’ve been doing fine so far.”
“You’ve been on edge ever since that day. Babe, I hate seeing you like that.” I had to recall my life since getting my powers. She was right about what she saw in me, and I couldn’t deny it. “Help save this city, then we’ll do something fun.”
“Fine, but I do this for you.”
“Thank you, Nikki,” she whispered.
I flew to the park miles away out of the city, then bolted back as fast as I could. Man O War and I mangled thorn-like roots, making the monster weak enough for Wonderous to utterly destroy it with her hands. After everything settled and people began to crowd in the streets around the carnage, I tried sneaking up into the sky, away from their presence. Once I reached beyond a cloud, a surge of lightning flashed in front of me. Man O War appeared faster than I could blink my eyes.
“So, you’re just gonna leave without saying goodbye?” He said.
“I don’t know y’all, so yes,” I said, feeling a little bit intimidated.
“That’s rude.” He chuckled, which made me smile out of nervousness. “Thank’s for the help, Miss....”
“I’m not telling you my name.”
“I understand. Stranger danger, am I right?” I laughed at that reference. “Well, my name—”
“Man O War. I know who you are.”
“Eddie... I was going to say that.”
“Oh, sorry.” I was impatient to go back to Sam, so I decided to break away from any sort of introductions and the possibility of revealing too much of myself to him. “Adios, Eddie. I have... somewhere important to be.”
“Again, thanks for your help.”
“Yeah... You’re welcome.” I floated away, keeping my eyes on him. He waved goodbye and vanished in a flash of lightning. “That was... kinda cool,” I whispered. I was amazed at how he could create lightning without the use of a cloud. The one I hovered over wasn’t around during that whole conversation.
I returned to Sam to find her swinging on a swing set that was too small for her fat ass to be in.
“Hey, how did it go? She said.
“It went well, I guess. I hope to god no one recorded me.”
“Catch me.” She gained enough momentum to swing out of her seat and into my arms to kiss me.
“Did you plan that?” All she gave me for a response was a giggle. “We’re going to your place. Hot bath and no complaining.”
“Understood.”
Two weeks later, I used my powers in the cover night to help prevent petty crime. During my escapades, I would cross paths with Eddie and some people who worked with him. They didn’t have powers, but their wit and skill made up for it. He became someone I could trust in those days. I never talked to any of the people he worked with as I did with him. He made me more comfortable with what I am than Sam. She wanted me to go out more and be known as this heroic figure. He understood my concern. He promised to keep my life a mystery to anyone asking who I was. She loved praising the hell because of what I became which made my life a tad bit stressful. The only few things that calmed me down were beer and my job as a Vaternian assistant.
Two months later, Eddie gave me his personal stylist, who made him his outfit. At first, I found it stupidly hilarious to see myself in crazy costumes stopping petty criminals. I didn’t check them until Sam convinced me that having a suite is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put my “name” out there. Plus, my clothes would always rip in some shape or fashion and my body got thicker. I was developing a four-pack, defined shoulders, and leaner thighs. She loved how my body was changing. There were a handful of nights when she asked me to go commando around her apartment.
I finally took a trip to see Eddie’s stylists for courtesy’s sake and Sam’s reason after work. His stylists were twin siblings running a family business. They were expecting me, which I found unsettling at first, then the sister told me Eddie said I “might” come. They made me feel untroubled when they told me the backstory of all the suits Eddie wore before finalizing the one I saw. I surprisingly was somewhat excited thinking about my saga of different outfits I might go through if I pursued this life, so we collaborated on what kind of outfits suited me. They measured me from head to toe, arm to arm, tits, ass, feet, and even my legs.
It took Eddie’s tailors seven days to create my outfit. I made them meet me at a public place in the evening just for my discreteness. The whole suit was encased in a black zipped-up cover. I drove back to Sam’s apartment to reveal the big news. She was heading to sleep when jumped to the porch.
“Hey, babe,” Sam said as she let me in the room. “Whatcha got there?”
“Follow me,” I said, giggling with a tiny bit of excitement as I ran to our bedroom. “Y’know... Something I could wear when I’m out and about.” I let Sam do the honors of opening the covering as I hovered over her head to spectate. My light blue hooded long sleeve was the first piece shown, and then came my high knee apple red boots. She gasped, and I was speechless with nervous joy. She zipped down fully to unveil everything.
“Put it on for me.” I started taking off my clothes while still floating. “Shit, the window.”
“Opps,” I whispered, covering my tits. Once she closed the curtains, I continued taking off my clothes. “Cover your eyes until I’m ready.”
“Alright.” I easily slip into my outfit. Everything felt snug in every place. “Wanna see me without my hood up?”
“Yes!”
“Look.” At first, she viewed me through the spaces of her fingers, then her hands came down slowly. “What do you think?” I posed to show her all angles of me. “Give me one word for your reaction.”
“Sexy, perfect, amazing, curvy.” When she said curvy, I blushed so badly that I felt insecure for a short moment. “Show me what you look like with the hood on.” I flipped it over my head, and she gasped with giggles. There were more gasps once I put the mask around my face. It covered the lower half of my head. The only parts of my face that were exposed were my eyes upward. “Oh, mysterious! How’s the movement?” I did everything I could to test any imperfections while not being too destructive in the small space I had.
“I’m solid, girl!” I said, being upside down with my feet touching the ceiling.
“Awesome!” We cheered like happy children. “So, what’s the white streak going down and across your chest?”
The design on my chest and stomach represented the Enshrounding belt of darting meteors and the one meteorite that hit me. It’s shown zig zagging with sharp turns down my stomach and exploding at the bottom.
“Is this a reference from the meteorite that hit you?” Sam asked after following the flight of the meteorite with her finger. I nodded to confirm. “I like it.”
“Thank god. I thought it was too cheesy.”
“So, do you plan on showing the world who you are?”
“No. I don’t think I’ll ever be ready for that.”
“Mkay. Well, do what you like, babe.” I sat on the bed and patted my leg to make her sit on me. She jumped and landed on my lap. We bounced several times, but I kept her secure to me. “I’m so proud of what you’re doing.”
“I’m only doing it for you.”
“That’s not true anymore,” she said, flicking my nose.
“What do you mean?”
“You’ve created a liking for helping people. This is all you, honey.” I was speechless to be exposed like that.
“It’s your fault. You just had to pressure me into helping them.”
“You had the ability to help. Your efforts saved a lot of lives that day, babe.”
There was no way I could lesson the truth. It made me feel good helping others, even if it was something small. Sometimes I got that feeling for helping the animals at my veterinarian job. But, with people, the euphoria was greater.
“Did you plan on hiding what you’ve become forever?”
“To be honest, yes.”
“Really?” She hopped out of my lap to sit next to me.
“Sam, I was scared. And, I’m still kinda am,” I confessed. There was a moment of silence before she massaged the back of my right hand. “Powers like this draw unnecessary attention.”
“What exactly were you afraid of?”
“People bothering us. The government stalking me because I’m not normal. Shit like that.”
“Government,” she scoffed. “Are you still worried about it now after doing all that stuff?” I shook my head, saying no, but it was a half-lie. She smiled, so I tugged on her pajamas to try and keep her occupied away from seeing my discomfort.
“Do you plan on going out or coming to bed?” A siren wailed in the distance the second she asked me that. “What timing.” She looked at the window, then her eyes snapped back to me as she waited for my answer in silence.
“I’m coming to bed.”
I came to bed after a hot shower. Sam fell asleep, but I remained awake, staring at her backside. I contemplated everything I did with my powers, yet I somehow felt annoyed by the randomness of the source of my abilities. I was just a regular college girl, going through the motions in life. Deep inside me, I wished this had never happened, yet the annoyance was more minor than the joy it gave me. This was the beginning of an adventure for me, good or bad, and I was somewhat curious to see where it took me. But one thing remained that alluded to me. Who was the woman I saw and spoke to me back at the Redmond observatory?
