Navaska's Final Hour

Navaska's Final Hour

A dark shadow loomed over the forest, its unusual oblong shape was a sign of the bad times to the villagers of the nearby Navaska village, a small place in what, 100 years ago, would be called southern Russia, but the nations of old were long since gone, an ancient reminder of why the current government existed, annexing the non believers and showing its people its absolute and unquestionable power.

The U.N.E or United Nations of the Earth was a single totalitarian government that based its power in controlling the vast majority of the globe, a scientific marvel, this alliance of previously enemy countries was started by a country named the United States, this small country used to own only a portion of North America, and now owned more than three quarters of the globe. The President of the United States had used its unprecedented military power to conquer the earth, they plowed their way through europe starting with the old country Russia, a long time enemy, and as they progressed, fewer and fewer nations dared to fight back. This massive annexation created a sort of global peace, where as long as nobody stepped out of line the government would, for the most part, leave you alone.

The Navaskans always feared the mighty airships, their looming shadows often meant executions, and worse, forced work to “provide for the interests of the state”. Unfortunately one of the few rebel groups left held its home in Navaska and to the dismay of the citizens often led to strict taxation and even stricter regulation of the workforce, but what could they do? They were only simple lumber farmers, barely allowed primitive axes, versus the giant of the U.N.E they were nothing, they had no guns, no airships, nothing to fight back with.

The gloom was palpable over the villagers, and dread set in as the steady whir of the engines of this monstrosity boomed over the poor village, as the villagers looked up they started to notice the familiar flash of weapons, mostly non-nuclear these weapon displays were common outside of rebellious towns and villages, but then they saw the odd greenish glow from the clear chambers within these weapons, these bombs. It would seem that this time it was not a simple weapons display, but the government finally decided to eradicate the so called "vermin" that were the rebels of Navaska. The villagers made their final prayers to their god as they watched this unholy green glow encompass their familiar woods, and as the glow got closer, so too did they, to their children and families, to the loved ones they held dear, and without a sound, suddenly, Navaska was no more.
