chapter 7

It hurt so bad! I had no idea what was going on, and tears were streaming down my face. I called out for Orus, desperate for help. He gently took my hand away from my chest and put his own hand there instead. Something warm and comforting radiated from his touch, wrapping around the painful area. I closed my eyes, the pain slowly started to fade away, like a distant memory. Gradually, I couldn't feel anything at all.

I was surrounded by blackness I tried to open my eyes, but they felt stuck like they didn't want to work. Time seemed to pass so slowly, and just when I thought I couldn't take it anymore, a faint light appeared out of nowhere. It floated down towards me, descending ever so slowly. As soon as it touched me, my vision suddenly came back.

The world around me was totally wrecked. It was like another huge disaster had struck, and I couldn't find my friends Orus or Hendry anywhere. The ground beneath me had melted, and after a bit the molten rock started to cool rapidly, becoming solid stone. That's when I noticed that I was floating in mid-air as soon as I comprehended what was happening unexpectedly as if what I saw trying to prove me wrong, I fell from the air and landed on the ground, but I felt no pain. Actually, I felt lighter and stronger than ever before. Looking around, I realized how massive the crater from the explosion that destroyed the town was. It stretched so far that I could barely see the edges. Even though I was less than a kilometer away, I couldn't tell how far the destruction went, As where I had expected the fourth edge of the crater to be, I only saw heat-distorted red stretch out beyond the horizon

Near the rim, something caught my eye—a shiny structure that sparkled in the sunlight. It was the only thing untouched by the explosion. The ground didn't feel hot anymore, so I decided to walk towards that structure in the distance. As I got closer, I noticed soft mana grass already growing around it. Mama used to tell me that this grass was made by a great hero from ancient times to heal and restore damaged places, turning them into fertile lands for other life to thrive. As I ventured deeper into the area with the mana grass, the temperature started getting cooler. It felt like any other summer day.

I was making my way through the knee-high grass when I saw a huge blurry shape, almost the size of a house, next to a shiny cube-like thing that was three times bigger. I tried to focus on it, but it hurt my head so bad that I had to stop looking. Suddenly, I heard a faint rustling sound amidst the wind. I looked around and realized the blurry thing was moving really fast towards me. I felt scared and quickly hid inside the grass, curling up with my legs to my chest and closing my eyes tightly.

The rustling grew louder and louder, turning into a rumbling sound, but what made it even weirder was the high-pitched whining that accompanied each rumble. The ground beneath me started shaking, making me feel uneasy, but suddenly, everything came to a halt. It was as if the whole world took a deep breath and held it.

After a while, I cautiously opened my eyes, squinting against a wave of pain that shot through my head. I blinked, and there in front of me was a wall of swirling colors, all distorted and strange. I winced as the pain intensified. It seemed like the wall noticed my discomfort because the colors transformed into a mist-like substance and evaporated, revealing what was hidden behind it.

To my astonishment, it was a colossal monster, resembling a gigantic dungeon tarantula. I had seen pictures of them in books, but this one was enormous almost ten times the size. It stood about five meters tall and fifteen meters wide. After a brief silence, a small cylinder-like structure extended from the bottom of its head. It emitted a beam of light that moved over my body, starting from my head. The beam split when it reached my eyes, then rejoined after passing them. As the light reached the ground, it vanished. Soon after, the protrusion retracted and disappeared completely. Then, something incredible happened—the monster began forming words.

At first, the words sounded garbled and strange, but gradually, they corrected themselves and started to sound normal.

"Species classification! Person Name! Unit time! Unit measurement!" the gigantic monster's voice boomed, its words echoing in my head.

I was startled by the commanding tone of the monster. It seemed to be demanding information from me. Trying to gather my thoughts, I nervously responded,

"Um... I'm a beast kin from the fox kin subrace," or at least that's what my mama told the intimidating man at the gates when we moved to the town of Elysian.

"Uh... the date is... um... the 3rd day of the 6th month of the... um... 5036th year," I stammered, recalling the numbers Mama had taught me.

The monster's intense gaze seemed to scrutinize me, evaluating the details of my reply. Time seemed to stretch on forever as silence enveloped us. Finally, it spoke again, its voice devoid of emotion, "Acknowledged, beast kin Yue. Analysis complete. Status: Non-hostile. Objective: Detailed analyses, Observation. Unit measurement: request further information." It paused for a moment before continuing, "Time unit: fractions! Month unit: base! Year unit: base!"

I furrowed my brow, trying to make sense of its words. It wanted more precise information about time measurements. Taking a deep breath, I replied with uncertainty, "Um... I don't really understand fractions or bases... I only know what my mama taught me."

The monster seemed to process my response, its massive form remaining motionless. After a brief silence, it spoke again, "Understood. Time measurements adjusted. Further analysis in progress."

After some time, the monster shook slightly, and then it began to speak again, but this time its voice carried emotions and sounded like that of a boy. However, after a few words, its voice changed and deepened.

"Sorry about that. I was occupied with creating a lexicon through vocal cord scans and a voice model for myself. That was the sub-AI. Oh, by the way, no need to worry. I won't hurt you."

Although I didn't comprehend most of the words it said, I felt a bit safer. For some reason, I trusted the monster. So, gathering my courage, I asked, "Can you please explain what those words meant? I didn't understand."

The monster paused for a moment, seemingly processing my request. Then, with a gentler tone, it responded, "Apologies for the confusion. I was working on developing a set of words and expressions to communicate effectively. The sub-AI is a secondary artificial intelligence system that assists me in certain tasks. And don't worry, I mean you no harm. I am here to observe and learn."

I listened attentively, relieved that the monster seemed friendly. I couldn't help but feel curious about its purpose and abilities. However, I hesitated for a moment before asking another question, "Um, may I ask what you are and why you are here?"

The monster took a moment to respond, its voice carrying a hint of intrigue, "I am an advanced sentient entity, created with the purpose of understanding and exploring worlds. I was sent to a different world to observe and gather knowledge. but an accident happened and well I sort of caused that by crashing into your world at a really high speed with a really big ship." he said while pointing to his left at the gigantic crater with its front leg.

Feelings of anger welled up within me, but at the same time, I understood that it was an accident. The monster seemed remorseful, but I could sense even a tinge of guilt in its voice. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself before responding.

"It's... it's difficult for me to fully understand what you said, but this was an accident, right? It was an accident that brought you here," I said, my voice filled with a mix of sadness and anger.

The monster nodded the weird whining sound coming from it as it moved, a sense of heaviness lingering in the air. "Yes, you're correct. It was never my intention to cause harm or devastation to this planet or in this time."

I didn't really understand what it meant by "In this time" but that's ok

As I looked at the immense creature before me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of empathy. It didn't seem like a malicious being, instead, it seemed that it was raped inside a long chain of uncontrollable events.

"I... I miss my mama," I confessed, my voice trembling with sorrow as a lone tear flowed down my cheek soon after followed by others.

I don't know how long I cried but at some point, I fell asleep. I woke up to a big surprise, as I was in a room made out of gray reflective metal I looked around and sat up only now noticing that I was sleeping on a weird black blob that was so dark I couldn't tell its shape even while sitting on it the rest of the room was filled with lots of things I didn't understand. but that didn't matter. once I fully got up the blob seemed to turn liquid and got absorbed by the floor, leaving no trace behind. Just as I was starting to take in the room, the voice of the monster echoed from all directions, breaking the silence, I was a bit confused about how it worked but I listened attentively. "Oh... you're up. I'll be back in a moment. As I was conducting some research on the grass. You were asleep for 4 days. I also going to create some food for you once I'm back."

Now that the monster mentioned this I started to feel really hungry. I walked around the room and explored trying to understand the strange things located in it. One particular set of objects caught my attention. They were square in shape, with evenly spaced holes on one side and a multitude of blinking lights on the other. Most of the lights were green, but some flashed red intermittently. The side with the holes had small strings of various colors attached to them, all leading to a black sphere that floated in the middle of the room. The square things were spaced like bookshelves in multiple rows.

Curiosity, I approached the black sphere, observing it intently. To my surprise, the sphere began to generate another black blob similar to the one I had slept on. This new blob moved slowly, gradually crossing the halfway point between myself and the black sphere. As it continued to advance, it started to grow upwards, eventually forming a solid wall that extended all the way to the ceiling. The color of the wall transformed, matching the reflective gray hue of the room. Now that it had concealed itself I decided to sit down in a corner where the black blob was once I sat down the blob that had once disappeared, came upwards from the floor. It lifted me from the cold floor, and surrounded me like another set of clothes I noticed that it was warm and very comfortable. Then I fell asleep again.
