Chapter 2: Silk Ring

Chapter 2: Silk Ring

That water... that doctor.... he put something in it...

"That's true." a faint voice muttered from afar.

What was that, did I hear something just now? I'm probably just going mad at this point, I can't see a thing and my body feels weird.... I can't move an inch like I did before.

"Open your eyes." the voice commanded.

In a sudden, my ribcage tightened violently as I took a sudden gasp of air—like a dead man awaken from his slumber my eyes opened, seeing that I was laid down under a ruined house.

"You're awake." the doctor ecstatically said, feeling his hand tightly gripping my left arm.

His attire changed from earlier, he was no longer wearing a mask but he seemed to be wearing some kind of protective equipment.

He wiped the sweat off his forehead with a fatigued look gasping back and forth, he sat down the desk positioned next to the bed J was laying on removing his gloves and placing it by the side.

"Where am I? No... what the hell did you put in my drink!"

In a fit of rage, I tried to jump out of the bed yet my hands we're chained to the railings on the side. First I was poisoned, now I'm being imprisoned; is this what kindness means these days?!

"Now calm down, I'll free you from those chains. But first, let me explain something to you." The doctor said while dangling the keys, hinting to me that he was proving his word.

Should I even trust this guy anymore? He doesn't have a reason to knock me out and chain me into a bed, after all I couldn't move... or maybe, that wasn't the case...

"You've been in some kind of hibernating state for the past 13 years."

"What, hibernating? Put it in words I can understand!"

"You've been asleep for 13 years." he said with a serious look on his face.

Thirteen... years... but I was gone for only moments... this doesn't make any sense, this doctor, these things happening to me... it all felt as if it happened just a moment ago.

"You might be thinking that you were gone for only moments, but that's normal don't worry." The doctor stood up from the desk and walked to my side, he spun the keys around while he sat by the soft mattress I was laying on.

"Well, in your case it is considered normal. You have a disease called Vykos and to make things clearer for you since you're probably confused right now, this disease makes you undergo into some kind of grotesque metamorphosis." The doctor stood up and opened the drawer from the desk he sat on earlier pulling out a leather book with the words Metamorphosis carved onto it flipping the pages before closing the book.

"Have you ever read this book? Well, haha... of course you haven't. You're brain is currently processing like a newborn who'd just came out of his mother's vagina. But in this case, the newborn is a enraged madman demanding for answers." He chuckled before placing the leather book back on the drawer.

"You might feel different from before after your long slumber. You're stronger than ever, faster, and much more intelligent than the normal human. Hundreds of thousands of ideas running in your mind at once, it's like a wet dream for doctors like me; but all those genetic alterations do not interest me to the slightest..." The doctor smiled as he untightened the cuffs on my arms.

"What I'm interested in, is that ring in your arm."

What ring is he talking about... I sat up from the bed and noticed a mirror placed in front of me, for the first time I had a glimpse of my own reflection. I walked to the mirror seeing what used to be my fragile frail body, transformed into a somewhat small muscular build and long rigid hair reaching to my shoulder.

"This is me?" I muttered to myself, as I touched my face with my hands rubbing it softly in awe; while rubbing my face I took a moment to stop and look at the ring wrapped around my index finger.

I turned to the doctor shedding a tear on my left eye.

"This... ugly thing is me?"

"Yes... that ugly thing is you." he answered with his arms crossed.

The silence was loud, I was frozen in place in front of the doctor as I looked at the ground while we were there in the dark abandoned ruin, discreetly exchanging our gazes.

.

.

.

We sat outside the ruin, amidst the dark gloomy night. A worn out dinner table was set up by the side, the doctor was eating his "food" while sitting by the rocking chair staring at the stars.

"What are you eating?" I asked the doctor.

"Crushed minerals." the doctor replied as he was chewing on dust while drinking some kind of liquid from his flask.

"You don't seem to be like the other bandits... you know, eating eachother."

"I'm not bandit am I? Besides, cannibalism drives humans to insanity I try to refrain myself from eating human flesh unless I'm at a dire situation." He answered finishing his plate, walking back inside.

Sometimes I can't understand a thing he says, he'd always use "flowery language" with every word coming out of his damn mouth—can't he even spare a thought for illiterate hooligans like me? Well, maybe I'm kind of adapting to his flowery stuff after I've read some of the perserved books he stored in his drawer.

I cast a slight glance on my left arm, looking a the the black ring wrapped around my index finger.

***

We were atop the ruined household reading one of the perserved books from the doctor's drawer until I notice a slight tingling sensation in my left hand.

"The ring on my left hand, how did it get there." I asked the doctor curiously.

"Well, I have no idea why those rings form whenever you're on a hibernating state all I know is that I came home looking for medicine and I just saw a ring wrapped onto your left hand. Also, when I first saw that ring it's first instinct was to try and kill me with some sort of acidic substance, which is why I would love it if you would let me research some information about that thing before it would be the end of the both of us."

***

That tingling sensation... it's happening again; I should probably try and take it off my finger is starting to itch.

Placing both my fingers on my left index finger, I attempted to remove the black ring but suddenly, it suddenly explodes into droplets of black liquid floating into the air.

"Ah! What the hell?!" I was startled falling from the rocking chair as the black liquid began colliding into one another seemingly trying to form into a new substance.

"What's wrong?!" The plates clattered from inside the ruin emitting the sound of glass breaking as the doctor hastily ran outside with a rifle on hand to take a quick look.

"What the hell is that?!"

"Do I look like I know?!" I shouted back at him standing up as the liquid violently started forming into a black silk book raplidy blitzing to my body as it phased into my forearm travelling through my neck before forcing it's way out of my mouth.

"cough cough... Doc, what the hell is this thing?!" I looked at him as the book began opening itself blocking my line of sight, as if it were showing me the contents in it.

"Doc, can you come over here..." I told the doctor.

The doctor walked to my direction with his rifle on alert, as he turned to the book he let out a confused expression.

"It's blank." The doctor said.

"What? No, it's not it literally says-" The dark liquid phased onto my left eye suddenly a text appeared on the top of my left eye.
