Stepping into the workshop, Jake tossed his bag onto the workbench, spilling out its contents. Sitting down in front of the emptied contents, he unclipped the bag on his leg before emptying it as well, causing some of the materials to fall to the floor.
Now that he had an excess, it’d be best to use some of it to make new tools.
‘A knife could work,’ he thought, grabbing a steel ingot. It’d serve as a good start, making something small. As for the design, he could use the dagger he had as a baseline. It’d be of a better quality, at the very least. Letting out a small breath, he closed his eyes as he tightened his grip on the ingot.
Reforge.
Feeling the warmth wrap around his arm, he brought an image to his mind. It was similar to the dagger he used, but not fully completed. Opening his eyes, he found himself holding what he envisioned.
Now to hammer in the edge.
Getting up from his seat, he grabbed some of the coals nearby before tossing them into the forge, causing it to suddenly roar to life.
Well, that's convenient.
Stepping forward, he sat the steel base onto the hot coals before turning his attention towards the nearby tools. Grabbing a hammer and a pair of tongs, he then pulled a nearby stool before turning his gaze back towards his current project. Seeing it glow a bright orange, he used the tongs to grab the piece of metal before pulling it out. Resting the piece of metal on the anvil nearby, he quickly got to work hammering the metal. As he shaped the edge of the blade, he brought the blade up to inspect it before continuing to hammer away, occasionally putting it back in the heated coals.
Once he found it to be to his liking, he then dropped the piece of metal into the barrel of water. Putting his tools aside, he watched as steam rose from the barrel, the water bubbling.
He had to admit, this entire process…something felt different about it. The hammering of metal, the crackling of the forge. All of it seemed…more, in a way. Like there's something hidden underneath it.
Odd.
'Best to not really think about it,' he thought as he grabbed the now cool piece of metal. Getting up from his stool, he went back to the workbench before grabbing some wood and leather and closing his eyes.
Reforge.
Feeling the heat wrap his arm, he brought an image to mind. A completed dagger, with a grip of stippled leather and ergonomic wood. The edge, sharpened to effectiveness.
Feeling the heat fade away, he opened his eyes to find the completed project in his hand. Looking over the blade, he found the knife to be exact to his specifications.
One down, a few more to go.
Grabbing some of the steel ingots, he closed his eyes before letting a breath leave him.

Reforge.
Feeling the warmth wrap around his arms, he brought an image to the front of his mind. A balanced ax head, but one not fully made. Feeling the warmth fade from his body, he opened his eyes and immediately went back to the forge. Grabbing a few extra pieces of coal, he tossed them into the forge, watching as it seemingly came back to life. Tossing the axehead into the forge, he grabbed the hammer before hanging it back up.
'This one will work,' he thought as he grabbed another hammer. While it was bigger, it wasn't really by much. Regardless, it would be better to use since he was dealing with a larger surface area.
Using the tongs, he pulled the piece of metal, which now glowed a mixture of bright orange and white, before going to work. As he hammered away at the metal, he felt something change inside him. The heat of the forge seemed to bleed into his skin, the ringing of steel overlapping in his ears.
‘Ignore it,’ he thought as he set the metal back in the coals. It wasn’t important to his job, so it doesn’t matter.
Seeing that it was done, he set the axehead in the vat before making his way towards the workbench. Grabbing some of the wood, he then grabbed some of the leather before wrapping it in leather. After securing the knot, he let out a small breath before closing his eyes.
Reforge.
Feeling the heat wrap around his arms, he brought a schematic to the forefront of his mind. A hardwood handle, a majority of it wrapped in textured leather. Small enough that he could put it on his belt and use it in a fight. However, it was still big enough to be used in felling trees.
Feeling the heat die down, he opened his eyes to see what he envisioned in his hands.
Now to put it together.
Pulling the axehead out of the vat of water, he let out a small beath before closing his eyes.
Reforge.
Feeling the heat wrap his arms, he brought the image of a completed ax to the forefront of his mind. An edge that was uniform and sharpened to effectiveness, a wedge splitting the wood of the handle, securely connecting the two pieces together.
Feeling the heat fade away, he opened his eyes to see the completed ax in his hands. Giving it a few light swings, he found it to be as balanced as he wanted it.
Now, to replace his sword.
Setting the ax down next to the workbench, he grabbed his sword before unsheathing it. As he examined the sword, light bouncing off of the blade, he felt an idea come to mind.
He didn't exactly need to shatter it, just change it.
Setting the blade on the workbench, he then grabbed a small amount of steel and leather before getting to work. Setting the ingot down on the blade, he then wrapped them in leather, making sure it was secure. Once he was finished, he grabbed the handle of the sword and let out a small breath before closing his eyes.
Reforge.
Feeling a warmth wrap his body, he brought the image of the sword he wanted to the front of his mind. One with a simple design, but effective in a fight. Its weight would be balanced and effective to use in various sword styles. Light enough to not be a burden, but heavy enough to cut through meat like a butcher’s blade.
Feeling the heat die away, he opened his eyes to see the sword in his hand, exactly to the specifications he wanted. The blade, a sharpened and gleaming black, seemed to reflect all light, almost like that of a mirror.
‘Now to make a sheath,’ he thought, setting the blade down before grabbing the sheath. Wrapping it in leather, he let out a small breath before closing his eyes.
Reforge.
Immediately, he brought an image to the forefront of his mind. One that was more suitable for combative situations. Lighter, more flexible, allowing the ability to quickly bring out the sword when a fight was initiated.
Feeling the flame pass, he opened his eyes to see what he envisioned in his hands. Grabbing the sword nearby, he slowly slid the blade into its container, fitting it like a glove.
‘This is enough,’ he thought before grabbing his new equipment. He could make more things later.
They’d be useful tomorrow.
