Chapter 2: A MARRIAGE PROPOSAL

Chapter 2: A MARRIAGE PROPOSAL

Ember turned to look at them. She was shocked to see them because it was the person she had bumped into earlier. Camilla was surprised to see Damian with Ember. She asked, because she was curious, "Damian, is this beautiful young lady your daughter?

"Yes, Mrs. Camilla, she is my only child."

"Nice to meet you, young lady. We've met before, right? I hope you still remember me?"

"Nice to meet you too, madam. Of course I still remember and am sorry about earlier."

Ember is still feeling guilty about them. Damian was confused. How did they know each other? Then he remembers that Ember told him that she bumped into someone when she was in a hurry.

"I guess we like you, right, hubby?"

Camilla looks at Ember, and her words make Ember perplexed, including Damian. They don't understand the meaning behind Camilla's words. Fabian stared at Ember, but he said nothing. Damian started to feel worried because he thought maybe Ember had offended them. Fabian saw their perplexity and curiosity, and he changed the topic of their conversations as the meeting was about to start.

"The meeting is about to start. We have to go in. Damian, don't you have to go in too?"

Damian looks at his watch. It's right, the meeting is about to start. He was shocked because he still needed to prepare some documents for the meeting.

"Ember, you can go home now. See you later."

"I hope to see you again, Ember." Camilla smiled at her. Ember nodded her head because she didn't know what to say. Ember took a taxi and went home.

After the meeting was over, Fabian asked Damian to stay with them. Assorted plays on Damian's mind, he feels weird. He thought, Why did the chairman, along with his wife, want to see him? Did he do something bad, or maybe because of Ember?

"Damian, like my wife said earlier, we like your daughter and we want to propose to her as our daughter-in-law."

Damian was shocked, and he fell silent. He thinks maybe he was dreaming right now, or maybe they were joking, or maybe he had an earing problem.

"Pardon, can you repeat it? Maybe I heard it wrong, that you proposed to my daughter."

"No, it's not wrong. It's true, we are proposing to your daughter?"

Camilla made it clear to Damian. Damian felt a stone hit his head instead of winning the jackpot. A wealthy family proposed to her daughter. That was unbelievable. But Damian tries to think positively and respond to their marriage proposal.

"Mrs. Camilla, in this matter, I don't know what to say because Ember has a boyfriend and I don't know what to do. Although I agree, I still need approval from her. Because she is the one who will get married, not me."

"You can talk to her first." Hearing Fabian say that he should talk to Ember about the marriage made him feel like another stone had fallen on his head.

Damian sighed while looking at them. "My daughter is just an ordinary girl, and our status is also different. Why did you choose her as a daughter-in-law?"

"We don't pay attention to status. The important thing is that she's a civilized woman and worthy of our son. We promise to take good care of your daughter." Fabian's answer made him speechless. He didn't know what else to excuse himself.

"Damian, I beg you to persuade your daughter." Seeing Camilla begging for him made him feel guilty. He thinks he should ask Ember's opinion first. Maybe she will agree, or maybe she won't.

"I'll try, but I don't promise because this is my daughter's own choice, and I prefer not to force her to choose a husband."

"We will wait for the news from you." Fabian smiled at him, and Damian slightly nodded his head, stood up, and left them with a heavy heart and burden. He was worried if Ember would get angry, but he didn't have a choice.

Jayden arrives at a white villa belonging to his family. Outside of the villa, there is a rocky river. Jayden walked towards the rocky river, and he took off his blazer. He put his blazer on the ground. He sat on a large rock and put his feet in the water. Xander just stood there looking at him. He saw Jayden's blazer on the ground, and then he picked up his blazer. He knew Jayden was stressed right now as he saw Jayden's facial expression.

"Xander, you can leave me alone. You don't have to accompany me, and tonight we will spend the night here."

"Yes, master."

Jayden sat pensively. He thought maybe he should get married and have a child. Forget about feelings of love, as long as the suffering he experienced is lessened. But deep inside his heart, he was scared. He is scared if the person he married will hate him and how long the marriage will last. But he must make his decision as soon as possible, and he is trying hard to convince himself.

After work, Damian went home and stopped at a cake shop. He looked at the decorated Christmas cake; he had the cake wrapped and taken home. In front of his apartment door, Damian took a deep breath and entered the apartment with a smile on his face.

"Ember, your papa is back."

"Papa, you're back. I've finished cooking dinner."

Damian came in and placed the cake on the dining table. Ember brought grilled chicken thighs to the dining table, and she spotted a cake on the table.

"Papa, did you buy this cake?"

"Yes, we will eat after dinner."

They both sat at the dining table. The food on the table included grilled chicken thighs, mixed vegetables, and mushroom soup.

"Let's eat," Damian said, with a smile, but his mind was still thinking about Camilla and Fabian's request. He felt uneasy and did not talk much while they were eating because he was thinking about how to bring up the marriage proposal to Ember.

After they finished enjoying their dinner, Ember opened the cake box, and she fell silent.

"Christmas Day hasn't arrived yet, but why do they decorate a Christmas cake?" Ember was confused, and she looked at Damian.

"But you like it, don't you?" Damian touched her head, and she nodded her head with a smile. Ember cut the cake and gave it to her father, and she cut a slice for herself. While eating the cake, Damian tried to talk about what Fabian and Camilla had requested.

"Ember, have you ever considered getting married?"

"Yes, but Zane hasn't proposed to me yet."

When Ember started thinking, Zane seldom asked her to date, and they rarely met because they were busy. Maybe that's why he never proposed to her. She thinks positively.

"Have you ever thought of marrying someone other than him?"

Damian's questions shocked her. She was curious why suddenly his father was asking something like that. "Papa, what do you mean? Don't you like Zane?"

"No, I don't mean that. Do you remember the person we met this morning? They proposed to you to marry their son."

Ember was startled and fell silent for a moment. How can she marry someone she doesn't love? Only crazy people will do that. Furthermore, she had a boyfriend, and she wouldn't cheat, she told herself.

"Papa, I like Zane. I will not marry anyone else but Zane. Please reject their proposal on my behalf." Ember stood up and went into her room, leaving Damian alone. Damian felt miserable. He felt guilty about telling them Ember's answer. But that was the answer from Ember, and he should face them.

Early in the morning, Ember was getting ready to go to her shop. She came out of the room and saw her father was preparing a packed lunch and breakfast. Damian saw Ember standing, looking at him, and he was startled, because he remembered yesterday's story. But he tries to act normal as usual.

"Ember, let's have breakfast." She came and sat at the dining table and had breakfast.

On the table served were bread, cheese, ham, sausage, and milk. They just ate together without saying a single word, and they felt awkward, because this was the first time they had acted that way. After finishing the meal, Damian gave Ember a packed lunch.

"I'll go first. See you later." Damian is still trying to break their silence.

"Yes, papa, take care." Ember answered, but she didn't look Damian in the eyes because she was sulking. She was sulking at Damian. Even though Damian didn't do anything wrong, he was just asking, but still, Ember was not feeling happy.

When Ember arrived at her shop, the door was already open. Inside the shop, there is a young lady. She has orange shoulder-length hair, and her eyes are sterling gray. Her name is Aubrey Wallace, and she is 25 years old. This lady is Ember's cousin, 2 months older than Ember. Ember's father and Aubrey's mother are siblings.

"You came early today?"

"Yes, because I had nightmares." Aubrey approached Ember and hugged her right hand.

"Nightmare? What is it?"

"I dreamed you were married to a monster. His nails are long, his fangs are long and hairy, and his face I don't see." Aubrey explains it to Ember about her dream, but Ember sighs, hearing Aubrey's dream remind her of what Damian asked her yesterday.

"What happened to you? Why do you look unhappy?"

"Someone proposed to me," Ember said as she pulled up a chair and sat down.

"Zane proposed to you?"

"I wish Zane proposed to me, but unfortunately, no, it's not him."

"So, who proposed to you?" Her face was filled with wonder.

"The owner of the company where my father worked." Hearing Ember's words, she closed her mouth in shock.
