Mystical Mage
Five-Nine

Five-Nine

Minos headed through the hallways unimpeded, before finally making it out of the school gates. The sunlight blinded him for a moment, he was so used to the darkness, that he wasn’t accustomed to the sun anymore. Eventually his eyes adjusted to the brightness and he continued his march. The school was located deep in the woods, away from regular towns and cities, but there were a few caravans located near the front so one could get a ride to wherever they needed to go.

“Take me to Elkon City”

The caravan driver saw the badge on Minos’s chest and knew this was an elder of the school. He didn’t dare to mess around with a person of this authority, so he quickly whipped his horses making the caravan head forward. Minos knew that this escape wouldn’t be enough, he needed a way to get stronger or else he wouldn’t be safe no matter where he went, the problem was how would he get the strength needed to protect himself. Magicians could only use the magic of their types, which meant fire magicians could only use fire magic, and water magicians could only use water magic. He had immortal magic which meant he could only use immortal magic, but immortal magic didn’t seem to have any offensive moves and was more of a passive magic.

Minos spent so much time thinking, that he didn’t even realize he was already at Elkon City. He didn’t even bother to pay the man, and naturally the man didn’t have the guts to ask for payment. Minos walked into the city and headed to a clothing shop, wearing these robes would give away his identity soon enough so it was best to change. He headed into the store and bought a white robe, as he was trying it on, he looked at the mirror and saw the face that was reflected back to himself. He hadn’t seen a reflection of himself for so long he had forgotten how he looked. Minos was horrifying handsome, the biggest reason behind this was because each time he died, his body adapted and became a little bit more perfect. He had already died so many times that the body reflected back in the mirror was already flawless. His long black hair reached his waist, but he tucked all of it into the robe and covered his head with the hood.

He paid the man before vanishing back into the streets. He needed a plan, just escaping alone wasn’t enough to give him safety. It wouldn’t be long before someone found out Professor Sinter was already dead and that he had escaped, once that happened they would be on his tail quickly. The only way to guarantee his safety was to gain strength, but how was he supposed to do that. Magic was set in stone the day of your birth, if you had fire magic, you could only use fire magic, if you had death magic, you could only use death magic. With his immortality magic, the only thing he could do was avoid death, his magic gave him no offensive abilities whatsoever.

The way normal magicians cultivated was called the Five-Nine. Five to represent the 5 different magic classes and Nine to represent the levels they had. Each class cultivated slightly differently, but they all followed this rule of the ‘Nine.’ Conjurers had to create their own sacred item or beast and had to refine it 9 times, each one of these refinements granted them far greater strength and terrifying power. Witches and magus’s had to create 9 cores, these cores were made of pure mana that would let them draw on more power of the world, making them far stronger which each additional core.

Enchanters had to undergo 9 purifications, this was the process of purifying their bodies and getting rid of weakness to make them stronger, each purification would enhance your power greatly. Finally Sorcerers had to create 9 mind crystals, these were similar to mana cores that witches and magus’s had except they increased the purity and power of the sorcerers mind, allowing their mind and illusion magic to increase in ability.

The strength of all these different classes were pretty much the same at the same level, the only difference being their strengths and weaknesses. Enchanters were balanced, sorcerers were the hardest to guard against but had the worst defense, conjurerers were strong but tended to be the slowest. Witches and magus’s had the strongest fire power and good defense, but used plenty of mana giving them horrible stamina, making them easy to beat during attrition battles. These strengths and weaknesses balanced the classes, making it impossible to figure out which was truly superior.

The problem was mystic’s didn’t seem to follow this rule of Five-Nine, or else it would have been called the Six-Nine. Mystics had tremendous abilities but couldn’t make them any stronger through training or practice, but the abilities themselves were enough to stand up against others. Minos was fortunate enough to read through some records of mystic’s the school had and saw some of the abilities mystics of the past had. One mystic was called the Divine Seerer, this was naturally because his mystic magic was divination, allowing him to foresee the future. Another was the Omnipresent King, while he naturally couldn’t be at all places at all times, his mystic ability of teleportation allowed him to travel anywhere instantly as long as he knew what the place looked like. This seemed to be the curse of mystics, they had amazing abilities, but the world refused to let them grow stronger, for fear that they may obtain powers that could go against the heavens themselves.

The pursuit of magicians was to cultivate these Nine levels, and break through them all. Reaching a level beyond, and eventually becoming a god, with infinite power and lifespan. Minos already accomplished the infinite lifespan part, but with the infinite power to go along, all he could do was hide like a rat to avoid his pursuers. He started to wonder, was it really true that mystics couldn’t go through their own 9 levels, or maybe it was the case of their 9 levels being unique to themselves. This theory made sense since even the 5 classes each had different methods of going through the 9 levels, so mystic’s probably wouldn’t be exempt from this rule.

However because mystics couldn’t cultivate, their lifespans were short, being only as long as an average man. The 5 classes needed thousands of years to make it where they were today, building off the knowledge of their predecessors, but mystics had to make that journey on their own, and a hundred odd years simply wasn’t enough time. Minos's sharp eyes glinted from under his robe, because he knew the one thing he didn’t have a lack of, and that was …. Time!
