Chapter 2 - Encounter with Plant Spirit

Chapter 2 - Encounter with Plant Spirit

Throughout the night he had encountered several and fought with several beasts. There was a horse looking one with sharp pointed teeth, a single horn on its forehead and a whip like tail. Like the wolves it used shadow magic. He had encountered another drake and had stumbled upon a nest of dog sized ants that could manipulate the air.

He also learned that he doesn't need to breath to survive when the ants created a vacuum around him. Except to speaking and vocalize sounds, breathing is only a formality at this point.

In the morning, as the sun was breaking the horizon, Carl found a small stream in a clearing. Leaning over the river bank he observed his face for the first time. He had a baby like round face reminiscent of his last life's face but much younger. His third eye looked like a white bead in the middle of his forehead.

Carl decided to follow the stream, who knows maybe it will lead him to civilization. Suddenly Carl perceived a huge bird zooming towards him at incredible speeds. Although stunned Carl quickly shot a mana bullet however the bird easily dodged it. In the next second a lightning bolt flew from the bird's bearing down on Carl nonetheless it didn't really hurt Carl.

In the blink of an eye Carl was already high up in the air. The bird had grabbed his shoulder and neck with its sharp talons, its lightning attacks snaked all over Carl's body but didn't do any damage to him. Carl's robe quickly transformed into spikes at the shoulders that pierced the bird's body. The bird let out a wretched screech before letting go off Carl. Carl started to descend rapidly towards the ground.

Perhaps he could survive falling from such a great height but what if he could, this might possibly be the end. The ground was getting closer real fast, he reflexively closed his eyes but that didn't help as his third eye was always open. However the fated impact never happened, he was floating a centimeter above the ground.

"Huh!" An exclamation escaped from his lips.

His body had become lighter than a feather and was slowly rising up. Quickly imagining himself getting heavier he dropped onto the ground. He quickly moved to the shelter of the canopy to prevent other avian beasts from catching him again. When he was sure he was safe he imagined his weight getting lighter and lighter. He started rising in the air, grabbing onto a branch he launched himself high into the air. He started jumping from on branch to another in rapid speed feeling as if he could fly. Of course there were some unfortunate accidents in the beginning but everything worked out in the end.

With the new trait he had discovered he could now cover more ground faster. He had been running for five hours when he noticed a weird tree creature. Like all other creatures he had met in the past few hours he decided to ignore it, however the tree branch that he was supposed to land on strangely moved out of the way causing him to fall. He managed to float before hitting the ground but several vines shot out of the ground trying to entangle him.

With a wide sweeping arc he cut the vines with a morphed blade. Ahead of him there was a creature that looked as if it made up of vines and a roughly carved out tree in the shape of a wolf. The creature was exuding purple mana with a deep blue halo, although didn't have eyes but somehow Carl could feel its gaze baring on him.

Conjuring a man bullet he shot it aiming at the creatures head. With extremely agile movements the creature dodged the bullet rushing towards Carl at an alarming speed. Carl didn't panic but calmly raised his arm, supplying mana into the air he formed fifty more mana bullets and launched them at the creature. The ground surged and tree roots broke from it and formed a wall to intercepting the attacks, however it failed to completely block the volley as it was perforated within seconds. The mana bullets that bypassed the root wall immediately barraged the creature tearing chunks from it.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Suddenly pointed roots broke through the ground heading straight for Carl's head. Carl had already seen the mana gather on the ground hence he responded swiftly and dodged the roots, however as if they had eyes they followed Carl causing him to dodge them repeatedly. Creating mana jets, a concentrated stream of high dense mana that flowed at high speeds, from his fingers he swept across the roots shredding them into bits. He turned to face the creature which had already regenerated the damaged it had faced.

The creature mobilized its mana and launched water bullets towards Carl. Carl conjured a mana shield blocking the bullets, the creature had already reached Carl's side. Several vines erupted from the creature as they swarmed Carl. Carl extended his mana shield to cover him in 360 degrees, the vines completely enveloped Carl in his mana shield. Rapidly expanding his mana shield he exploded it outwards shredding the vines.

Carl immediately launched a fist on the creature's head, however the creatures face morphed as if it weren't solid and his fist just softly sunk into the creatures head. Directly afterwards a pointed limb abruptly sprouted out of the creature's shoulder striking towards Carl.

Carl's immediate reaction was to jump backwards but his arm was caught in the creature's head, the creature's limb hit Carl squarely on his chest but it failed to pierce it. The creature stopped for some time, seemingly in disbelief at Carl's sturdiness. Taking this opportunity Carl conjured a mana sphere in the creature's head and let it explode blowing apart its head. Carl looked at his unscathed hand in satisfaction.

The creature didn't seem affected by lacking a head as it morphed into a bipedal form mimicking Carl. It launched an attack towards Carl's face but Carl easily deflected it with one arm as he used the other to attack the creature's chest with a mana sphere. The mana sphere launched the creature several meters before exploding, obliterating a large chunk of plant matter and leaving a huge hole on the creature's chest.

Carl could see the creature's mana surge into the ground as if it were preparing to launch a massive attack. The ground begun to quake as several roots broke out of it and merged into the creature. Its size begun to increase and Carl also noticed its mana increase almost doubling its capacity from when he first met it. Creating a few mana spheres he shot them towards the creature which was still growing. The spheres hit their mark and exploded, gouging pieces of the creature however in the next second vines and roots quickly filled the damaged spots.

After a little while the creature was over two hundred meters tall with several roots that twisted and contorted wriggling in its body. The creature's vines and roots flooded towards Carl who was immediately drowned by the sheer volume of the attack.

When the creature was increasing in size Carl wasn't just standing idle, he was forming a giant mana sphere above the tree line. The trees were about five hundred meters so the mana sphere wasn't visible, when the sphere was a hundred meters in diameter he let it fall. A cacophony of cracking sounds rang out as the sphere was breaking through the canopy. The sound caught the creature's attention and Carl could feel its horror as the situation it was in set in.

Boom, with a flash of light the sphere landed and a terrifying explosion occurred obliterating everything in a 10 km radius forming a huge crater.

Carl looked at the barren land he had created, he certainly had gone a little bit overboard.

Releasing his weight, he got lighter and started floating upwards. He was light enough that the wind took him along with it. He continued decreasing his weight till he felt he couldn't anymore, the speed in which he was moving up sharply increased as he shot into the sky. He soon passed the clouds and came to some creatures that were floating in the air.

Stabilizing his weight to float in the same layer as these creatures he begun observing them. The floating creatures had noticed Carl but ignored him.

They consisted of whale like creatures several hundred of meters in length. They had a bulbous back and several flippers that were exuding mana with a silver halo. There was one who was smaller about fifty meters in length that were much faster than the larger ones. Looking where they were headed Carl saw clouds of tiny insect like creatures floating away. Even smaller creatures were moving within the 'cloud' feasting on the insects.

From high vantage point he could see the place he was at clearly, the ground below him had a vast forest that completely covered the western side. It was lucky he chose to move east if he were to get out of the forest. Towards the south was a grassland and towards the east he could see the forest end and several cities and villages emerge.

A sort of thrill swept over his being as he had find civilization. A sky whale bumped into Carl and he rolled onto its back latching onto the fin on its back, sitting comfortably he started riding the beast.
