“AHHHHH!” Berry screamed as the wyvern flew through the sky with him dangling in its mouth. He cursed and pulled himself up to swing at the wyvern’s eye. The monster blinked and opened its mouth to roar in annoyance, dropping Berry from several hundred feet in the air. “SSSHHHIIITTT!!” Berry screamed again as he spread his arms and legs to slow his fall to the wetlands below.
The wyvern swooped and slashed at him with its claws. Berry grabbed its claw and swung wildly as it flew by, just barely holding on by his fingertips. He stabbed his sword into the wyvern’s toe, under its scales, pulling himself up its leg. The wyvern roared in pain and rolled in the air, trying to shake him off. Berry held on for his life until the wyvern stopped rolling and continued his climb up the scaley leg. As he climbed, he stabbed his sword into the wyvern’s leg and pulled himself up. The wyvern roared with each stab and tried to shake him off as it flew, shaking its leg and executing complicated aerial maneuvers.
Berry eventually made it to the wyvern’s back and grabbed onto one of the ivory spikes along its spine to hold on to for dear life. The poison wyvern looked back over its shoulder and glared venomously at him. Emerald light rolled up its body toward its head, and Berry knew that it was about to spew poison at him. He raised his shield arm and cast one of the few spells he knew, “Small Shield!” he called, and a circle of mana one foot in diameter formed before him just as the wyvern spewed acidic gas from its mouth. The breath attack crashed against his shield and flowed harmlessly around him.
Once the pray of acidic gas ended, he quickly pulled his sword from the wyvern’s leg and cast two more spells as he swung at its left-wing, “Light Slash! Fatal Slash!” the spells collided with the wyvern’s HP and broke through in a spray of ethereal red dust before cutting into its wing. The wyvern roared as its wing became worthless, and it fell from the sky. Berry held onto the wyvern as they crashed into the forest, crashing through trees and branches before splashing into the wet ground.
As the wyvern hit the ground, Berry nearly lost his grip on the wyvern’s spiked back. As the wyvern slowed, Berry felt the G-forces act on his body more and more until the wyvern stopped and flipped over, tail over head, and threw Berry from its back. He landed in a wet splash of mud and disgusting water and quickly rolled to his feet to face the wyvern. The poison wyvern quickly scrambled to its feet, barely able to stand with its missing limb.
It growled, and emerald light began to roll up its body from its stomach. “Fuck,” Berry cursed as he charged the wyvern. The monster’s eyes widened at his actions and spewed the acidic gas from its gullet. Berry quickly changed direction, running to his right. The wyvern tried to track him with its attack, but Berry moved too fast for it. He quickly closed the distance and swung his sword down on the wyvern’s neck, yelling, “Light Slash! Fatal Slash!” His blade glowed and struck the wyvern, meeting resistance before repelling Berry’s attack, sending him stumbling backward.
He cursed and noticed that the wyvern’s scales had grown darker temporarily before fading to their usual acidic green. The wyvern glared at him, and Berry smiled worriedly, mumbling, “Cleaver girl.” Then he jumped back as the wyvern roared and snapped at him, missing his shield arm by inches. Berry quickly planted his feet and thrust his sword into the wyvern’s eye. Red-green blood sprayed from its eye, and his sword partially melted as he pulled it free of the wyvern.
He cursed and jumped back from the spray of acidic blood. Quickly planting his feet once again, he brought up his sword and shield at the ready. And with a roar, he charged once again, swinging for the soft scales under the wyvern’s chin. The wyvern saw his charge out the corner of its remaining eye and reeled back, preparing for another breath attack. Berry swung at its throat and missed as the wyvern released its acidic breath. And Berry smiled as the breath left its mouth, and he yelled, “COUNTER ATTACK!” He swung his shield as an invisible force blew the breath away and made the wyvern stumble back another two steps.

Berry charged and thrust his sword into the wyvern’s throat and through its brain. A final gurgle left its throat, and it fell limp right on top of Berry, who cursed his luck. With much groaning and shoving, he managed to squeeze his way out from under the wyvern and sighed, exhausted. A screen appeared in his vision, and he looked at you. Raising an eyebrow, he asked, “What? You still here? Never seen a man fight a poison wyvern to the death before? Well, it ain’t as easy as I made it look.”
He stepped up and pulled his sword from the wyvern’s corps and cursed as he found it had completed entirely and looked more like a piece of scrap metal. He tossed it aside and moved toward the wyvern’s chest. Pulling out a knife, he thrust it into the wyvern’s chest and cut a large slit into it. He waited a moment for the blood to seep out of the body before he reached into the body and pulled out a fist-sized gem with only some cursing from the acidic blood burning his flesh. The gem had the same color green as the wyvern and pulsed lightly with magical power.
Pocketing the gem, he looked at you and said, “I bet you’ve got some questions. And I’ll take a minute to answer them. Just give me a minute.” He then walked away from the corps and towards a patch of trees that were relatively dry, where he sat down. Taking a deep breath, he said, “Right, where to begin? Let’s start with the spells ‘cause you clearly have some questions about those. The spells are a little weird here. They are incredibly hard to get because you have to sit and meditate or some shit on them for days or even weeks at a time. Or you fight a goblin, and you suddenly have one. It’s really weird how you get them.
“But they do have rules that are easy to follow. First, once you have the spell, it will show up on your spell and skill list. Second, the description is something you will have to follow to the letter. If the spell says that YOU will be moved, that means you and only you will move. Thirdly, you can only cast each spell so many times a day. Once you cast a spell, it will take twenty-four hours for the spell to refresh. And four, if you run out of mana or spells you won’t be able to use them until you hit that twenty-four hour limit. Hmm? You want to see my spells and skills? Okay, just give me a moment.” He pulled up a screen and flipped it toward you. Showing all his spells and skills.

Berry wiped the bloody green gem clean against his dirtied coat while he waited for you to finish reading. Once you did, he held the gem up for you to see and said, “Another thing you’re probably wondering about is this gem here. It’s called a mana stone. I know it's super original, but it serves a purpose. These bad boys are a source of power and crafting material. The larger ones are sent to some of the larger cities and capitals around the world, and the smaller ones are used to make weapons and such. This one would probably go to a crafter and be turned into a sword or dagger or the like. This one would catch quite a few gold.” Berry yawned and stretched out his arms and legs, “I need to take a quick rest. Then, get back to town. Hopefully, everything is going well with them.”
