My Rival (The Hero) Is Too Much!
Prologue (Entry of the Shameless Hero + Failed Hero Summoning)

Prologue (Entry of the Shameless Hero + Failed Hero Summoning)

Excerpt of the Shamless Hero's Diary Vol. 5 - July 2 20XX - Page 502 (a loose page lost on world #102 on May 2 20XX)

The sun was too bright, covering my eyes looking for shade as I grumble to myself that it's probably the hottest day in July that I am experiencing again for the thousandth time!  I look at my journal in hand, to notice that somehow some pages disappeared in the time and space stream again. It would have been nice if the mage was able to send me back to the past to an alternate time line after the hottest day of summer.  Maybe there is some sort of affinity to being dragged to this exact day that does not allow any sooner or later?

Looking over to see the familiar lone oak tree and a food cart in front of the tall castle like building.  Of course I have learned that this is not a castle, but a mage's school.  Previously, I was summoned as a hero inside that castle-like school, but that was in an alternate world.  Weirdly enough after being sent to parallel past time lines to when the hero summoning began, I never once met a version of myself.  Perhaps the first world I was on was the only successful one of summoning a hero (me) and the chances of being successful is low?  Or the other possibility that has been niggling my mind the most is perhaps there could not be two heroes at the same time, that since I am here in the past, another version can not be summoned.  Which is a real shame, as it would have been nice to have met another "hero from another world".  I held back the urge to muse any longer about the past, a little sorrow ached in the heart for losing more of my diaries to time, knowing it is lost forever.  Perhaps I have lost myself to time as well...

PROLOGUE: FAILED HERO SUMMONING

The bright circle on the floor lit up with motes of light floating blinding the eyes for a moment.  Once the lights were dispersed it was obvious that nothing was summoned, the head mage heaved a sigh of diappointment.  With a loud declaration the head mage announce, "98th attempt at hero summoning is a failure.  Please take a rest and try again in three weeks time for another attempt."

A few of the mages were already collapsed on the floor from exhaustion, while other mages were already stumbling to go to the dorms with unsteady steps.  The head mage was already gone making a flashy disappearance to his roomy mage tower.  I felt myself go a little unsteady leaning too far forward before deciding that sitting down before heading to my dorm would be best.  I wasn't too worried about why the royalty suddenly hired so many mages to work on a hero summoning.  It was at least a steady paying job, and I get to stay at the wizard's school dorms a little longer even though I have graduated a few years ago.  Having a chance to be able to live and work at the mage school was too tempting to let go. I shivered thinking about the hardships I had the few years struggling when I was outside of the school's walls, I heaved a sigh of gratitude that the hero summoning failed again.  At this rate, I might have a steady job for a few more years!

I didn't know at that time that the hero summoning wasn't necessarily a failure, and that the hero was already here at the mage's academy out to cause me trouble for some reason!  Perhaps even if I had known this, it would have been wishful thinking that I could have changed what happened three weeks from now on the 99th attempt of the hero summoning.
