Two songs

James walked over to the audience area with a microphone and handed it to Alexander.

Seeing this, Alexander realized that he was the one chosen.

"Chosen out of more than three thousand people, a one in three-thousand chance?" he thought to himself in disbelief.

James, noticing the student's handsome appearance, was momentarily surprised. Then, he asked through the microphone, "What's your name, young man?"

"Alexander."

"Great, Alexander. Do you have any special talents, like singing or dancing?" James inquired.

"I play the guitar, and I know a few simple songs," Alexander replied honestly without overthinking.

He had always enjoyed playing the guitar, and it was with this skill that he had once wooed Mia, making her his girlfriend. Ironically, it was today that Mia heartlessly ended things with him through a video.

"That's fantastic! Sing us a couple of your best songs," James said excitedly.

"This…" Alexander felt a bit fearful. He loved music but had never had any professional training. Performing in front of a few friends was one thing, but taking the stage at such a large event was daunting.

"Don't worry about it. Just sing through the songs completely, and I'll give you a T-shirt signed by Robert afterward," James reassured him.

Just as James finished speaking, the strange voice appeared for the seventh time.

"Not again! When will this end!" Alexander took a deep breath, his voice amplified by the microphone throughout the basketball hall.

"What did you say?" James asked, frowning at Alexander.

"Ah... nothing. I was just saying I didn't bring my guitar," Alexander quickly made up an excuse.

"No worries. One of our staff members is already bringing a guitar for you. It'll be here soon," James said with a smile.

"Okay," Alexander replied, wiping the sweat from his forehead. As he was feeling flustered, the voice echoed in his mind once again.

"Alright, alright, activate! Happy now?" He had had enough of the incessant nagging.

But this time, Alexander didn't voice his thoughts aloud; instead, he roared inwardly.

[Ding, system activation successful. Congratulations, host, you have acquired two songs.]

The next moment, Alexander's memory was imbued with two songs he had never heard before, which he swiftly mastered.

Parallel world? Two songs? What was happening? Was this not an auditory hallucination?

Alexander, filled with amazement and uncertainty, began to explore these new memories.

The two songs immediately came to mind. One was called "Shadows of Goodbye," and the other, "Pages of Tomorrow." These songs resonated deep within his soul, as if he had written them himself.

Still, Alexander closed his eyes and replayed both songs in his mind.

"Great songs, truly great songs," he thought. "I didn't expect to find such beautiful and poignant music that nearly brought tears to my eyes."

Feeling a surge of confidence as he had fully grasped both songs, just as if he had created them himself, Alexander clenched his fist, while the voice in his mind spoke again.

A virtual dashboard appeared before his eyes:

[Name: Alexander]

[Identity: Student]

[Occupation: Singer (Tentative)]

[Prestige: 60]

Alexander's heart began to race. The system automatically positioned him as a singer and gifted him two songs, hinting at a future in singing?

Before he could delve deeper, he was snapped out of his thoughts by James's anxious voice. "Alexander, Alexander? What are you daydreaming about? You didn't fall asleep, did you?"

"No, I was just thinking about something," Alexander replied, opening his eyes and smiling.

"That's good. Here's your guitar. " James said, handing him the guitar.

With the guitar in hand and a newfound confidence in his eyes, Alexander was ready to take the stage.

At that moment, Zoe's voice came through James's earpiece. "Can you ask Alexander what he's planning to perform? I need to prepare the introduction."

"Just a moment," James replied, then quickly asked Alexander, "What song will you sing?"

"Shadows of Goodbye," Alexander responded, showing his guitar.

"The next act is a guitar performance and vocal by Alexander, a junior student, titled 'Shadows of Goodbye'," James relayed rapidly.

"Got it," came the reply through the earpiece.

James was momentarily taken aback: "Shadows of Goodbye? What song is that? I don't think I've ever heard of it."

"It's an original," Alexander stated.

Alexander, holding his guitar, walked to the center of the stage, ready to begin his performance.

"Original?" James was stunned. How could this ordinary student have the capability to write an original song? And even if he did, James doubted it would be anything impressive.

He wanted to question Alexander, but time was short. James stood aside, his expression turning solemn.

Zoe's pleasant voice then filled the hall: "Next, we have Alexander performing 'Shadows of Goodbye' with his guitar. Let's encourage him with a warm round of applause."

However, only a few scattered claps echoed in the basketball hall.

Under the intense lights, Alexander couldn't see the audience's expressions but could hear a growing chorus of boos. He could guess that he was being looked down upon.

"Who does he think he is, daring to perform an original song?"

"If Robert can't make it, at least sing some popular online songs."

Had it been half an hour earlier, Alexander might have been overwhelmed by fear in such a situation. But at this moment, there was only a faint smile on his face.

The dean and professors sitting at the front exchanged glances, showing signs of approval. "This kid has good mental strength," they thought in unison.

Most people facing boos from thousands would have retreated. Yet this student remained calm and composed, a rarity indeed.

Now, they were curious to see if Alexander genuinely had talent or was just posturing.
