I still remember the last thing I heard before everything went black.

“Sorry. Kid”

I still remembered the face of that older man as I pulled him out from in front of the truck.

Shocked? Yes. Confused? Maybe. A bit disappointed? Could be.

“Man, I think I just messed up someone’s suicide attempt.” He said into the Blackness. The void did not respond, but something did.

A holographic box popped up in front of my vision; it was an emerald-green color and appeared to phase out of existence the further I looked away from it.

I stared in disbelief at the box for what felt like a long time.

“This looks a lot like one of those games my friend used to try to get me to play,” I said.  The box flickered lightly as I spoke but gave no other indication that it was listening.

I was starting to freak out. I could feel my heart race, and my body began to sweat. I tried again to find something other than the green box in front of me out in the darkness but could see no one and nothing. I had never liked feeling trapped and like an animal in a cage.

I panicked; I thrashed in the darkness, screaming and lashing out in whatever method I could. Though I screamed and screamed, no one came to wake me up. No one came to help with the nightmare.

Eventually, I calmed down. It started as a numbness in my chest that slowly spread outwards to the rest of my body, and as it did, I could feel that I was exhausted. I closed my eyes and let the darkness fold over me again.
