Prologue: My new Roommate and Maid is a Demon Queen

She was extremely bored. She had been bored for years now.

To an outsider, it was inconceivable why someone in her position would be bored. Anything she could wish for, she already had.

Most days, she just sat on her throne, surrounded by her subordinates.

“Is there anything needing my intervention today?” her voice echoed through the gigantic, empty room, which housed her throne.

“No, Lady Sindyca, nothing out of the ordinary.” The man responding stood next to the throne. No tone could be identified in his monotonous voice.

Sindyca raised her hand over her head and touched her curved horns, slowly caressing them until she hit the pointy end. “Looks like they barely grew again. How will anyone take me seriously with horns like these?” she sighed loudly.

Her eyes suddenly lit up. “I want to watch the human realm again. Bring the crystal.”

The same man as before nodded his head before leaving the room and returning a while later, this time with a big purple crystal in his hands. He put down the crystal on the floor and walked back to the spot next to the throne.

A white light beam came out of the crystal’s top, which split right and left to form a big rectangle. “Just show me anyone.” The rectangle slowly changed from pure whiteness to a multi-colored image, showing a man, who seemed like he was around 19, putting on his coat.

“Who are we watching?” Sindyca asked with a clear interest.

The man next to the throne responded without a tone, “A 19-year-old high schooler in 2024. He is currently leaving for school.”

“Ugh. These humans. How much I despise them and their interesting lives. Why do I need to bore myself every day when they get to live interesting and diverse lives? I am a demon queen. So why do they get to have a better existence?”

“Lady Sindyca, as the future ruler of hell, you need to follow the rules. You know that.”

“I dooo. But it’s so boooring. Why can’t I live in the human realm like one of them?”

The man covered his mouth in shock. “Miss Sindyca, that is absolutely frivolous. You know that leaving our realm is strictly forbidden.”

“Of course it is,” Sindyca sighed out. “I will retreat back to my room now, and I wish to not be disturbed. The man slightly nods but does not leave his spot.

Sindyca enters her room and starts walking in circles. “Stupid rules. Just want to ruin my fun.” In a mocking tone, she said, “Strictly forbidden. They will see. I will just go there anyway. Who’s gonna stop me? I’m the most powerful here.”

Loudly and quickly, she started to walk through the palace’s halls before she stopped in front of a gigantic wooden door. With much effort, she pushed open the door and walked inside. Gigantic bookcases covered the walls of the room, and books lay everywhere on the floor.

She looked around before picking up a book with the title, “Forbidden spells for realm travel.”

“Jackpot!” Holding the book, she ran back to her room before locking her door.“ So. I just need to cast this one spell and get transported to the human realm? That’s easy. She read out loud the words on the page. A bright light floats out of the book. Brightening up even more, it filled the room with blinding light.

The book made a thumping noise after falling to the floor as soon as the light vanished. Sindyca is nowhere to be seen, but the book is still open on the same page. A big red text on the bottom of the page read, “Warning: Entering the human realm will strip you of some parts of your magic. Mostly, the ability to return to hell.”

Sindyca held her head. The bright light created a stinging sensation in her head. “So, where am I?” She looked around in a disoriented way. She found herself in a dirty alleyway. “This is beneath me. Where do I leave this alley?” She walked around in search of the exit towards the street.

Michael walked to school the same way as always. He was bored by his repetitive life and, most of all, despised school. Differently from normal, however, he encountered a strange sight near his house. It looked like a girl with two rounded horns on her head and a small, spiky tail seemingly attached to her. To round it all off, she was dressed entirely in a weirdly elegant black dress. She seemed extremely out of place compared to the normal world around her.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Deciding to approach her, he asked, “Excuse me, are you a cosplayer? Who are you cosplaying as?”

She turned her head around at a surprising speed and asked in a confused tone, “You can see me? Oh, I mean, of course you can see me, subject. Be honored that you are allowed to stand this close to me.”

“Are you just a spoiled rich kid or really in character?” he asked half-jokingly.

“What do you mean, in character? Be quiet, subject, and properly greet me, Sindyca, the future heiress of hell.”

“Oh. So you are just insane? Well, I don’t have time to stay and talk. I’m already late to school.”

The weird girl looks at him with big eyes. “You go to school? Very well, then, be happy. I will allow you to be my retainer. Now lead the way to this school.”

“Hey, listen, I don’t want anything to do with your weird cosplay stuff. So please just leave me in peace.”

“Cosplay? Are you saying that you don’t believe my rank? I will curse you to hell if you don’t comply.”

“Okay, little Miss Insane, but I really need to go now. And you should probably go to school now as well.”

Michael turns around and quickly walks away in the direction of his school, while Sindyca stayed back, her eyebrows rising and a small flame appearing on her tail and between her horns. “HOW DARE HE?” It was in vain, as he had already left.

“I think I’ve shaken her off. That girl was crazy.”

“Who are you calling crazy?” an angry voice right next to him asked loudly.

“Ahhh!” he screamed and jumped back a step. “What are you doing here? Don’t you need to go to school?”

“Of course I do, my loyal retainer, and so I’m going to school. Your school”

“What? You aren’t a student there. Also, why are you wearing that ridiculous cosplay if you're going to school?”

“You’re starting to get on my nerves, retainer, but I will not punish you because I am so nice. I will not repeat this again. This is how I look. Not some kind of weird cosplay.”

“Okay. And what institution did you break out of? Now get lost and let me go to school in peace.”

“Are you calling me insane? But you may be correct. I did notice some people looking at me weirdly. Fine retainer. Tell me. What should I look like instead?”

“I can’t believe I’m talking to a crazy person,” he sighed out. “Why does something like this only happen to me?” he said quietly before loudly answering, “Well, of course you need to get rid of these laughable fake horns and that weird tail. You might want to wear normal clothing too.”

“Are you calling my horns and tail weird and fake? This is the last time I will excuse your stupidity. If what you are saying doesn’t help, I will personally make you suffer for eternity.”

A black fire appears between her horns, which quickly enshrouds her. As the fire appears, the horns, tail, and dress vanish, being replaced by normal pants and a shirt. “Is this more human-like?”

Michael’s eyes are wide open. “I have to admit, that was a good trick. So, now that I helped you, you can get lost and go to your school.”

Sindyca responded angrily, “I told you that I would go to school with you. And you, as my retainer, will accept it and thank me for the opportunity.”

Before her sentence was over, Michael was already long gone. "Oh, that useless, fleeing retainer.”

The first half of his school day was as normal as ever. But just before third period, one of his classmates approached him. “Uh. Michael? There is someone at the door for you.” Annoyed, Michael looked at the door only to be greeted by the angry face of the crazy girl from this morning, who had already walked right in front of him.

“Retainer, how do you dare to just leave me behind like that?” Michael’s classmates started looking at the discussion between the two. Most of them seemed to focus specifically on Sindyca.

“What are you doing here? I thought I told you to let me live in peace. Also, please be a bit quieter. Everyone is looking at us.”

“And? Let them gaze upon my immeasurable beauty.”

A strong hand roughly hit Michael’s shoulder. “So, aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend there?” Michael knew that voice all too well. It was his best friend, Everett.

“She’s not my friend. She is just some insane girl who annoyed me earlier today. And I have no idea how she found me.”

Sindyca angrily chimes in, “My name is Sindyca, and I am the heiress of hell. And this subject here got to feel the joy of being declared my retainer. Also, I will join your class for today.”

“Hey, if you dislike her, do you mind if I make a move on her?” Everett whispered to Michael.

“Do what you want. I don’t care,” Michael responded just as quietly.

"Hey, what are you two conspiring about?”

Everett leaned on the wall and said in a badly attempted, romantic voice, “Hey, you can sit next to me if you want.”

“No, you are a useless subject. I will sit next to my retainer.” She grabbed a random chair and sat down next to Michael, completely ignoring the hurt expression on Everett’s face.

“I understand. Guess you want to sit next to your boyfriend,” he said in a defeated way, only amplifying the whispering happening all around them.
