Chapter 2: Awakening in the New World

Chapter 2: Awakening in the New World

Jake slowly opened his eyes. His body felt heavy, like he had been asleep for far longer than he should have. The cool, musty scent of old wood and dust filled his nose as he sat up. He wasn’t in his small apartment anymore. In fact, he wasn’t even in the city. The moment he tried to stand up, his legs wobbled, and he nearly collapsed onto the cold floor.

He looked around—dilapidated walls, broken furniture, and a sense of abandonment. He was inside a room that seemed like it hadn’t been touched in years. The only source of light came from a dim, flickering holographic screen mounted on the wall in front of him. His vision swam for a moment, trying to focus on what was happening.

Where am I? Jake thought. What happened?

A soft beep echoed from the screen, followed by a message.

"Awakening Complete."

Jake rubbed his face. "Awakening? What the hell does that mean?"

He looked around again—no one was there. Just him and the empty room. With a slow sigh, he got to his feet, taking note of his surroundings. The place was strange, yet somehow familiar. It had the worn-down feeling of an old suburb from back home, but there was no mistaking it—this place felt… different.

Wait... did I get pulled into another world? he thought. He had heard about these kinds of things happening in some of the VR games he had played, but he never expected it to happen to him.

As he stood there, frozen, trying to wrap his head around it, the screen blinked once more.

“Status Update: Awaiting Finalization…”

Jake blinked, then sighed, sinking back down onto the floor. Great. Now I’m stuck in some weird dimension with no clue what’s going on.

Hours passed. Then days. He spent the next three days doing nothing but waiting for the system to update his status, hoping for some kind of clue as to what was going on. Maybe there’s something special about me after all… he thought. But why is it taking so long?

On the fourth day, the screen finally activated.

“Status Finalized.”

Jake's eyes widened, his heart racing as the window flickered and loaded. It was time to see what kind of power he had in this new world.

Jake stared at the screen in disbelief. What the hell? Everything was maxed out. Not just his level—everything. Every single stat and attribute was through the roof, so high that they seemed to defy all reason. It was as if he had been thrown into a game world and given god-like stats from the start.

But as he processed this, the realization slowly sank in: This wasn’t a blessing. This was... absurd.

The screen flickered again, and a new prompt appeared:

"Please Select Your Profession."

Jake stared at the screen, his mind blank. Select a profession? He didn’t need to—he already had everything he could possibly need! What could he even choose at this point? What kind of profession would suit someone with maxed-out stats? A god? A demon? An all-powerful ruler of the world?

He groaned, leaning back against the cold wall, exhausted by the overwhelming information. His situation didn’t make sense. His stats were out of control, but it didn’t feel like some grand prophecy had brought him here. It wasn’t some noble quest. No one was choosing him to save the world. No, this was just... random.

Jake, with a small sigh, tapped the screen to dismiss the profession prompt. There was no need for it. He wasn’t looking to change anything. He didn’t need to be anyone special. He wasn’t some hero—he was just an ordinary guy thrown into an extraordinary situation.

“I just want to get out of here,” Jake muttered to himself, a sense of resignation in his voice. “I’m just a salted fish in this world. Nothing more. I’ll just... go with the flow.”

And with that, he leaned back against the wall, closing his eyes. There was no pressure to save the world. He wasn’t the chosen one. He wasn’t anyone special. He was just Jake, a guy with way too many maxed-out stats and not a clue what to do next.
