Ch. 14 - The Invasion

Kris woke up, feeling exhausted, barely able to open his eyes. Eventually, he managed to get them open, and in the light streaming through the window, he saw Mibu next to him, causing him to remember the previous days events and the passionate night they had, a smile coming to his face.

He then heard a knock on the door, and heard what sounded like armor clanking on the other side.

Is that Paddy? Actually, wait, uhhh, what am I going to do about Paddy? Should I just release her too, or...Looking at Mibu again, should I talk with her? I guess I shouldn't make decisions without her now...right?

Waking Mibu up, she groggily reached up, trying to kiss him. “Kris...wuv...”

Kris nodded, “Yes I love you too Mibu, I think we said it hundred times last night, but I need to talk about something with you.”

Mibu nodded, wiping her eyes and getting dressed with Kris.

“What are we going to do about Paddy?” Kris asked.

Mibu yawned, “What do you mean? Paddy and I already worked out sharing you...”

Kris blushed, “No not that... I mean, should I...should we release Paddy as well? Is she going to be upset I freed you but not her? I don't know what the procedure is here...”

Mibu nodded as if she understood the dilemma. “I got it, I'll talk with her.”

Kris nodded, feeling relieved Mibu seemed to understand the best way to handle the situation.

Walking out, Paddy was pacing back and forth, a look of relief on her face when they came out. “I wasn't sure if I should wake you, but-”

Mibu cut her off, “Hold on Paddy, we have something important to tell you.”

Paddy looked at Kris, who nodded in confirmation.

“Kris has decided to release me, because he loves me, and we're now mates for life.”

Kris facepalmed, I mean, that's technically true, but is it okay to just make that proclamation-

However, Paddy seemed to understand, giving a polite applause, and saying “Congratulations!”

Mibu nodded proudly. “I'm sure you can be too, if you work hard Paddy.”

Paddy nodded vigorously, blushing and looking at Kris.

That's not what I meant! I mean, that would be great...but I still don't know what to do.

Before Kris could figure out a solution, Mibu continued, “Sorry for interrupting you Paddy, what were you going to say earlier?”

“Oh, um...the guild sent a runner to the inn, saying there was an emergency summons for all guild members...”

Kris and Mibu looked at each other, eyes wide.

“I've never heard of that before,” Kris asked, surprised.

The three of them quickly got ready and headed out.

Walking over to the Guild Hall, there was dozens of members outside, many talking in groups, the chatter creating a din in the area.

I've never even seen a lot of these people, Kris thought as he looked around. He could see many of them with higher tier rank-plates.

Going inside, there was a small line to talk to Corinne.

After a few minutes, the line filtered through and they got to the front, Corinne giving them a tired smile. “I'm glad to see you were all in town still. One moment,” she went to the back room, returning a few minutes later with their Iron-Rank guild plates.

Taking them, Kris exchanged their old ones. “Thanks, but what's going on? There was a 'summons'?”

Corinne nodded, “Yes, there was a contract sent to the Adventurer's guild from the Lord of Coburn due to the pending invasion,” she explained, pointing to a notice on the wall.

Kris did a double-take. “What!? Invasion!?”

Corinne nodded.

“I didn't think the Adventurer's guild had that kind of allegiance, shouldn't he just be using his soldiers?”

Corrine shook her head, “The Guild is allegiance-agnostic. This isn't a foreign country though, its a goblin invasion.”

Kris did another double-take. “Gob-goblins!?”

Corinne nodded. She looked beyond him, where a line was building behind Kris. “To quickly summarize, the Lord contracted the Adventurer's guild to help fight off the goblins. All Adventurer's will be paid ten silver each upon the successful completion of the mission.”

“Ten...each?” Kris said, looking at Mibu and Paddy.

Corinne nodded again, “Yes, just tap your rank-plate on the notice here and you'll be registered. Don't forget to collect your Monster Log payments afterward, either.”

Kris nodded, tapping his rank-plate so the notice briefly glowed blue. Mibu and Paddy followed suit.

Going outside, since the Guild Hall was getting more and more crowded, they went outside with the groups gathered there.

“That's a lot of money!” Mibu said excitedly.

Paddy nodded in agreement

Kris nodded as well. “Yeah...I'm a little confused though. What are we gonna be doing?”

Mibu shrugged, and they waited around, milling with the other parties.

After a few minutes, Misty's party walked over to them.

“Not surprised to see you all here,” the wolkin laughed.

“Do these happen often?” Kris asked.

The orc shook his head, “Nah, been a while. I think last was over a year ago, when we had a zombie outbreak that got out of control outside of town.”

Huh, that must be why Corinne had us take care of that one in the cemetery.

Kris looked over Misty and Mibu were whispering together. Mibu showed Misty her hand, causing Misty's jaw to drop, looking over at him. He blushed a bit, looking away.

Suddenly, a large lionkin man walked onto a box, towering over the gathered crowd.

“Who's that?” Kris asked.

“The Guildmaster,” the wolfkin man replied.

Yeah, that fits. The lionkin man had a large scar across his face, and some gray hairs in his mane told his age.

The Guildmaster started in a deep, booming voice, “Thank you Adventurer's for coming today. As you've heard, there is a large goblin force led by a goblin king coming from over the mountains west of here.”

There was a murmuring from the crowd.

The Guildmaster continued, “We believe they may have sent settlers into the area recently, due to the uptick in goblin sightings, and our requests related to goblins. We also believe the king may be attacking this area due to the slaying of these goblins.”

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Kris's eyes went wide, and he tried to slink down. Nobody looked at him, except Mibu, who had a concerned look on her face.

“Regardless of the reason, it's now our job to take these goblins out. Besides the ten silver payment for each of you, the lord is also offering a one gold bounty to whoever takes the head of the goblin king,” the Guildmaster continued.

With this, the crowd gave a roar.

“Let's go show them what the Adventurer's Guild is made of,” he finished, pulling out his own sword, a large curved scimitar, and heading off towards the gate.

The cheering crowd followed him.

“Haha, he always knows how to get us worked up,” the wolfkin man laughed, before charging off.

As they went to follow, Mibu pulled on Kris's side, whispering, “Is this...our fault?”

Kris hung his head, “Hard to feel like it isn't somewhat...”

“But...we had to take out those goblins, right? Some were attacking the farmers and merchants,” Mibu attested.

Kris nodded, “That's true.” Feeling a little better, “I guess we just have to kill a few more.”

Mibu shook her head, “What do you mean? We have to try for that goblin king, right? A whole gold piece...we could eat steak for a year straight!”

“No, we would use it to pay off part of the loan...”

“Well, we could at least buy a few steaks, right?” Mibu tried to convince him with a pout.

Kris shook his head, “We're getting ahead of ourselves. Let's focus on just killing as many as possible, and if we get a chance, we'll take it.”

Mibu gave a fist pump to show she was ready.

Paddy, who had been silent, just nodded, serious expression on her face.

After an hour of the group briskly marching, there was a murmuring and then some shouting coming from the front of the group.

Since there was so many people (Kris thought probably a few hundred) he couldn't see what was going on.

“Paddy, do you see anything?”

She nodded, “Yes, there's goblins.”

Kris blinked. “Um, how many?”

“A...a lot...”

Suddenly, the crowd swelled forward, forcing them to go along with them. As they went on, Kris couldn't see any goblins, but he could see several hobgoblins towering over the Adventurers. Behind them, riding a weird, yellow, dog-like creature was what he assumed was the goblin king. A massive goblin wearing a bent crown and holding up a sword, yelling.

“Alright, let's stick together. Mibu, focus on healing anyone that's injured you see. Paddy, make sure nobody hits Mibu.”

“Or Kris,” Mibu added.

Paddy smiled and nodded.

Kris's party slowly advanced, although he noticed the other parties were rushing towards the goblins. Eventually, they were almost alone, besides a few mages (one being Misty) who had stayed behind, casting long range spells.

What's everyone doing!?

Misty, who was wiping her forehead, walked over to them. “You three aren't gonna get any bounty staying back like this,” she explained.

“Is that why everyone's charging in?” Kris asked.

Misty nodded. “Yeah, a gold for the goblin king's head is a lot, even for higher ranks. Plus, they're just goblins...”

The three looked at each other, before charging in after the other Adventurer's.

The battle wasn't so much a battle as it was a slaughter. Adventurer's cut down goblins right and left, and even the hobgoblins stood no chance against the higher level adventurer's. The few injuries that were sustained were usually by Adventurer's accidentally hitting each other as opposed to the goblins.

After a while, the goblins started to get thinned out, and most of the hobgoblins had been taken out. The goblin king was no longer shouting, instead a look of anger on his face.

Paddy had been clearing a path through goblins, with Mibu and Kris finishing them off, trying to make their way towards the goblin king. Eventually, they and a few other Guildmembers had gotten close.

“Can you hit him with an arrow?” Kris asked Mibu.

Mibu unslung her bow, shooting an arrow. The goblin king knocked it out of the air.

Guess he's not as weak as regular goblins...

As he was trying to think of a plan, suddenly a large fireball flew over their heads, striking the goblin king directly. After the bright light from the blaze went away, he could see the the goblin king had been fried to a crisp, along with it's mount.

Looking behind them, Misty was breathing heavily, but smiling, her staff pointed at the goblin king.

Misty was getting some cheers, although a few adventurer's upset, shouting things like, 'I was about to take him out!'

Kris looked at Mibu, who shrugged, “We tried.”

After walking back to town, they got in line to collect their payout. Between the three of them, they had killed almost forty goblins, and one hobgoblin, earning themselves a few extra silver.

“Even though we didn't kill the goblin king, we still made a lot,” Mibu explained, giving a fist pump.

“Yeah, I feel like the Guildmaster is fleecing the Lord a bit paying ten silver each...”

After waiting in line, they eventually got up to the front, where Corinne was keeping track of the payments.

“Pull up your Monster Logs, please, we have a lot to- “ Corinne paused seeing the three of them come up. “Thanks again. Did you get a lot?”

They each pulled up their Logs, which Corinne confirmed, sliding the stack of silver over. “I know you probably want to deposit some of this, but I have a lot to get through...” she explained.

Kris nodded. “Of course. Mibu, why don't you take a few and buy a new dagger? That old one is getting a bit dull...”

Mibu smiled and grabbed a few.

Corinne, noticing her crest-less hand, stopped writing for a moment. Smiling at Kris, she then went back to writing.

Well, I'm sure she's guessed what Mibu and I's relationship is at this point.

Heading out, they started to walk towards the blacksmith, although Mibu took a turn away.

Kris, confused, asked, “Mibu, you know that's the wrong way?”

Mibu nodded, “I know, I need to stop at the Alchemist first.”

“...why?”

Mibu blushed a bit, “Well, since you dispelled the slave magic, that also got rid of the contraceptive enchantment. So, I either need someone to cast it on me, or get the medicinal version from the Alchemist.”

Kris stopped dead in his tracks, Oh god, we did it last night after, and I completely forgot! “Are you feeling okay Mibu? I didn't even think about that, and we...”

Mibu giggled, “If I take it tonight, we should be fine.”

Paddy was standing there, blushing heavily the whole time.

“Um...okay, let's go.”

Stopping at the Alchemist, Mibu went in and picked up the medicine, coming out with a bag.

After that, they headed to the blacksmith, where Mibu picked out a new dagger.

“You can get a nicer one if you want...” Kris suggested.

Mibu shook her head, “This one should do, and it doesn't cost as much.”

Kris shook his head back, “No, you need a nicer one. What if it breaks in combat?”

Mibu shook her head again, “No, we need to save money right? The steel one should be fine.”

Paddy giggled.

“Wh-what!?” Kris asked.

Paddy smiled, “You two arguing is cute.”

Mibu and Kris both blushed.

“Okay, I'll get the nicer one...”

After that purchase, it was getting late, so they grabbed some quick dinner at the inn, and then went to their room.

Kris sat on one of the couches, stretching out his body. That was a long day...

Mibu and Paddy were whispering together by the door.

They're up to something...

It became obvious very quickly, as both of them started undressing down to their undergarments.

“Hey, hold on, let me rest-”

He was cut off as Mibu shoved a flask in his face. “It's a stamina potion.”

Kris closed his eyes. He didn't need to ask, he knew what their intention was. Opening his eyes, all he could see was Mibu and Paddy, half-naked, both blushing and looking at him expectantly. Taking the flask, he uncorked it, drained it, and took off his clothes.

Mibu came over, giving him a kiss, whispering, “It's Paddy's turn first.”

Kris merely nodded, ripping off Paddy's undergarments, and squeezing her breasts tightly.

Paddy moaned in pleasure, picking Kris up and making out with him. Then, while she barely fit, she laid down on the couch, holding onto Kris as he got on top of her.

Sliding himself in, he started thrusting his hips, while Paddy wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him in closer and closer with each thrust.

After a few moments, he released inside her, while she squeezed him tight, suffocating him in her chest. Then, letting go, she pulled him in for another kiss.

After a few moments of making out, Mibu poked them both in the cheek. “Hey, hey, it's my turn!” She pulled him off of Paddy, pushing him down on the other couch, before straddling on top of him.

Inserting his member into her, she started pushing up and down.

Kris, seeing her chest bouncing up and down in front of him, squeezed them, causing Mibu to almost scream in pleasure.

Sitting up, he wrapped his arms around Mibu as she continued going up and down. After a couple minutes, she tensed up.

Kris kept going, holding her close, before coming while squeezing there bodies together.

They held onto each other like this, kissing for a few minutes.

“Um...”

They looked, Paddy was blushing, looking at them.

“Can I have my next turn?”

Kris continued switching between them. After the third time with Paddy, she fell asleep, exhausted on the couch. Mibu kept going two extra times, until finally both she and Kris were barely conscious. Squeezing together so they were fitting on the couch, they held onto each other as they drifted off to sleep.

In the morning, Kris woke up when he fell off the couch onto the floor.

“Oof,” he let out, rubbing his behind. He did a double-take when he noticed he was naked in the living area, until the events of the previous night flooded back to him, his face going red. That was crazy...

Looking outside the window, he freaked out a bit, realizing it was mid-day. Well, I guess it's fine if we take a day off... he told himself, walking over and grabbing some warm water.

Mibu then woke up, coming over to give him a kiss. “That was so amazing last night...”

Kris blushed again, “Yeah, that stamina potion certainly worked. Did you get it at the Alchemist?”

Mibu nodded. “It was definitely worth it.”

Kris put his water glass down. “How...much was it?”

Mibu nervously looked away. “Umm....”

Kris shook his head, “Just tell me, the damage is already done...”

Mibu's voice lowered, “Four silver...”

“Four silver!?” Kris nearly shouted, facepalming, and waking up Paddy.

“I wanted it to be a special night, so I got an extra strong one!” Mibu contested.

“Well, it certainly was...” Is this what free Mibu is like? I can't say I hate the results, but...”Look, just...ask me next time, please?”

“You don't wanna get it again?” she asked.

“I didn't say that,” Kris held up his hand. “Just...maybe save it for special occasions. Otherwise we'll be broke again.”

Mibu smiled and nodded, pulling him in for a kiss. “Every day is special with you though.”

Kris blushed in embarrassment at the proclamation. How can she say this stuff with a straight face?

Paddy, having gotten up now, walked over and wordlessly hugged them together, smashing both into her chest.

Kris and Mibu looked at each other, then smiled and hugged her back.
