EVIL Returns

Unfortunately, the weekend was over, so I was back at work. I loved my job, but it was always a bit disappointing when I had to go back because it could be so tiring and stressful. We were all sitting in the staff room, before we were called out to deal with chaotic crimes.

“How was the concert?” Pablo asked.

“Oh, it was great, I loved it.” I smiled. “You really should've been there Taylor Swift and Swift Sage, you have the same name.”

“Oh, I hadn't even thought of that.” He chuckled.

“You have to come with us next time,” Sam said.

“I will if I can.”

“How was your sister's birthday?” I asked.

He couldn't make it because of her birthday.

“It was good, but I just wish I could've been there in person, you know?”

“Yeah, it's a shame.” I nodded.

“You should've taken a holiday to see her,” Alex said.

“I don't really like leaving because of the job. I usually take a holiday around Christmas.”

“I'm the same,” Sofia said.

“How was your charity event?” Sam asked.

“It was lovely, I really enjoyed meeting my fans. I'm glad there were no creeps like there sometimes are.”

“Oh, that's good, I'm glad you had a good time,” I replied.

Maybe, I'd do a charity event and meet fans at some stage. Some of my fans had already approached me, I was always amazed when they did — I'd never thought I'd be famous at all.

The alarm started blaring, then Pauline spoke, “EVIL are robbing Covent Garden.”

“Great, they're back.” I sighed.

Hopefully, we'd actually catch them this time, then they couldn't bother anyone ever again. We all rushed out of the building, then Sam flew us to the shopping centre. The space was very open and pretty, but I couldn't concentrate on that when EVIL was around. The group was split up, all three were in different shops.

“Sam and Sofia, you two go for Bloodlust, I'll go for Vicious Viper, Alex you take care of Blazing Inferno, and Cara, you stay here and heal anyone who needs it,” Pablo said.

“Sure.” I nodded.

The others went off to fight the villains, so I watched Alex; Blazing Inferno noticed her and started throwing fireballs at her, which she managed to dodge. He put his whole body on fire, so Alex probably wouldn't be able to attack him using her body. She lifted a chair and threw it at him, it hit him, sending him flying backwards into the wall.

I turned my attention to Pablo and Vicious Viper, both of them were very fast, so it was hard to see what was going on. She had super speed and he had super reflexes. They both seemed to be landing hits on each other.

When I looked at Sam, Sofia and Bloodlust, I was horrified. He. Was. Sucking. Sofia's. Blood. It was terrifying and disgusting at the same time. She'd definitely need to be healed. Sam pushed Bloodlust off Sofia using his powers, which made the monster go flying. They just had to beat them this time. Sam was dealing with Bloodlust, so I ran over to Sofia, who was clutching her bleeding neck. It was revolting, but I had to put that out of my mind and heal her. She held out her other hand, so I took it and all around her neck glowed golden, healing her.

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

“Thank you, I felt awful before you healed me.”

“You're welcome.” I smiled.

The others were still fighting, but Vicious Viper looked like she was getting tired. Maybe they'd actually be beaten this time.

My eyes felt tired and I just wanted to go to sleep — I'd need a long nap once this was over.

Pablo got Vicious Viper restrained; this was great. Now there was only Blazing Inferno and Bloodlust to deal with, they really could get them this time.

Unfortunately, Bloodlust started hypnotising everyone, allowing EVIL to escape — it was a nightmare. They'd nearly beat everyone, if it wasn't for Bloodlust, they'd all be in prison.

“I can't believe they got away again, we nearly had them!” Alex sighed.

“I know, it's such a nightmare.” I nodded.

“I'm sorry, I really tried to block Bloodlust's powers, but he was too strong,” Sam said.

“It's not your fault, I know you tried your best.” Pablo patted his back.

“Thanks.”

We left Covent Garden, since there was nothing more for us to do. Sam was flying us back to work and I could feel my eyes closing; I would probably fall asleep on the way, which surprised me because flying was horrible, but healing Sofia had taken a lot out of me.

I woke up and saw that I was in work, there was a blanket over me, and Sofia was sitting in the chair beside me.

“Was I asleep for long?” I asked, sitting up.

“No, only two hours,” she replied.

“Did I miss anything?”

Two hours wasn't too long in the grand scheme of things, but any number of crimes could happen in two hours.

“We dealt with a mugging, a stolen bike, a minor car crash and a small house fire.”

“Wow, that's a lot. No one needed to be healed?”

“Thankfully, everyone was fine.”

“Oh, I'm glad,” I said with a smile.

“Everyone was waiting for you to wake up,” Sofia said.

“Sorry, it takes a while for me to recover after healing someone.”

“Oh no, don't be sorry. Even though we know you'll wake up, we still worry about you… I was in here any time we weren't dealing with things.”

“Thanks, but you don't need to worry. I appreciate you staying with me, it's nice to not wake up alone.”

“It's the least I could do after you saved me. I would've died without you, it was horrible.”

“Yeah, you looked like you were on death's door,” I said.

“Thanks.” She laughed.

“Where are the others?” I frowned.

“They're getting food, we could join them.”

“Yeah, I could eat.”

Anytime I had a nap, I was thirsty and hungry, so food would be great. We went to the canteen and I got cottage pie and Sofia got a sausage roll and chips. I looked around the room, then found my friends by the window.

“There they are.” I pointed to them.

“Let's go sit with them,” Sofia said.

We walked over to the circular, yellow table; I sat in between Pablo and Sam, while Sofia sat between Alex and Pablo.

“How was your nap?” Sam asked.

“Yeah, it was good, thanks,” I replied.

I ate the cottage pie and it was delicious — I'd have it finished in minutes, I was so hungry.

“I'm glad you're awake, I sometimes worry that you won't wake up.” Alex sighed.

“Aww, thank you. But, don't worry, I always wake up.”

Healing people wasn't a big deal, it just meant that I needed to nap for a few hours; reviving people or dying was worse because I needed to sleep for at least a day.

“I'm glad, we really need you on our team,” Pablo said.

“Definitely, I'd be dead without you.” Sofia nodded.

“I'm glad I can help.”

“You certainly do, we're all so grateful to you.” Sam smiled.

“Oh, thank you. It's incredible for me to be working with all of you, it's been my dream for years.”

My dreams really had come true, and this was the best job ever.

“Is it as good as you hoped it'd be?” Alex asked.

“Definitely, I get to be close to all the action and you're all lovely,” I replied.

I finished my cottage pie, but the others were still eating.

“Aww, thank you.” Sofia smiled.

“I agree with you, this team is the best, and it's all because of the people in it,” Pablo said.

“Absolutely, it's the best team I've been part of.” Sam nodded.

“What are the other teams like? Like The Night Owls or The Weekend Defenders?” I asked.

“I've hung out with some of them a few times, they're cool. But they don't seem quite as close as us,” Alex replied.

“From what I've seen, they don't hang out much outside of work,” Pablo said.

“That's true.” Sam nodded.

“I'm glad we all hang out outside of work.” I smiled.

Everyone on the team was so friendly and helpful, they'd helped me move into my new house, and I'd loved going to the concert with Alex and Sam. Getting this job was the best thing to ever happen to me.

“Oh, I love it too. I'd consider all of you my friends,” Sofia said.

“Oh, we're all definitely friends,” Alex replied.

“Yep, and that's the best way to be,” Pablo said.

“It really is. I'm glad that I actually have friends now.” I smiled.

“Did you not have any before?” Sam frowned.

“I did, but I lost contact with them because of Randall. Now, it's just too awkward to contact them.” I sighed.

“I'm sure they'd understand if you explained the situation to them,” Sofia said.

“Yeah, maybe.” I shrugged.

“You could contact them and see what happens,” Sam said.

“Or you can move on, it's up to you,” Alex said.

“Yeah, I'll think about it.” I nodded.

Everyone was finished eating, so we cleared everything away, then we went to the staff room, waiting for the next emergency.
