I died?...

Sitting on the second floor of a pawn shop across the street of the bar was two men, one was tall with brown wavy hair, narrow eyes, and a mischievous grin, the other was very plump with small beady eyes, blue hair, and was constantly wheezing.

They were sitting at a table with fine wine, expensive wooden cutlery, as well as extremely rare beef steak cooked well-done. The beef had steam filling the second floor, causing everyone else to salivate at the wonder of what it tasted like.

"Damn, that kid was really useful, doing any kinda job in the book for cheap as iron*. I mean he'd do anything from stealing an artifact, to burning buildings down, to murder. Too bad he was a trouble maker, always thought the world revolved around him," the plump one wheezed as he cut the steak into pieces, "Sadly this time he went too far actually daring to kill the boss' little bro, all over some Stones, like we don't know he has a fucking mountain of 'em stashed away."

As the tall one ate his meal he added his own input of the situation, "We both know he woulda brought them to his grave, while he has no qualms using others for 'shopping', besides if he didn't drink poison today he would've gotten executed tomorrow. All he accomplished is speeding to his death, it matters not as we have things to do. Finish eating and let's go." said the man as he got up and left the shop. The plump one then inhaled the rest of the food as he hurriedly walked out in a humble manner.

All Chance could see was darkness, he couldn't feel, hear, or sense anything else. He felt like he had stayed this way for an eternity until a shrieking high-pitched voice shook him awake, "CONGRATULATIONS FOR DYING AS WELL AS ENDING UP IN THE VOID. THIS IS WHERE UNLUCKY, OR SHOULD I SAY LUCKY, PEOPLE LIKE YOU GET ANOTHER CHANCE!! HOORAYYY FOR YOU, GOOD JOB! NOW THAT YOU'VE ACCOMMODATED YOURSELF, GO LOOK FOR YOUR GOOD FORTUNE. TIMES UP FAREWELL!"

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Head pounding from the thundering voice as he opened his eyes, Chance only saw a blurry figure dash away in seconds. By the time he sorted through what he had just heard, he was dumbstruck. "I died?" he wondered aloud, as he finally caught on to his situation a ghastly wail came from him, " Ehhhh!?! Why meee???? What did I do to deserve this!!!!", he wanted to cry as he felt extremely wronged.

After his tantrum, which lasted quite a while, he got depressed as he looked around to see nothing but Void. He thought he would be here forever as he thought the creature lied to him. So he chose a random direction and started along.

50 years have passed. Or at least that's what Chance thinks as he's been trying to count the seconds upon minutes upon hours upon days of his 'life'.

He feels the exact same as when he got here, but at the very least instead of being depressed, he is just dull and bored. "I hope my time comes soon..." he whispers in a nearly unheard voice, not knowing whether he means death or his second chance.

——————

Chance has lost count long ago on how long he's been traveling in the void. He knows for a fact it's over a thousand years as that was the last time he could remember. He's had the opportunity to think over his life multiple times and answer problems that he used to think were impossible. He regrets that he did not study in school so he could get a fine paying job. He regrets not having a family. He regrets becoming a criminal. He regrets having done so many crimes that he died young.

He wishes to go back and change all of his wrong decisions. Change his whole life around. His biggest wish is to meet his parents.

But alas, in this world there is no such thing as a pill for regret, as he would've taken it many times over. At least that what Chance thinks. But little does he know how his future will unfold.
