Chapter 4. Over powered and underwhelmed.

After the bat fell, a large gold ornate chest appeared. Opening the chest, he received several items.

Lesser healing potion x 4: restore 15 Percent of health when ingested.

Lesser mana potion x 2: Restore 15 percent of Mana when ingested.

Bat lord pelt

A large silky soft black pelt from a Bat lord. What it lacks in durability it makes up for comfort. Crafting material

Vampire fang Grade F Rarity Uncommon

A large fang, sharpened and made into the likeness of a knife with a wooden handle. Has a 15 % chance to leach 5 percent damage dealt using this knife. Damage scales with DEX

There really was nothing of interest, and seeing the pelt made him realize that he wasn’t salvaging the slain enemies… Then again, his turrets make them explode in one shot. The bats were basically glass cannons.

Looking at the boss, he realized that the large holes that dot the body made the pelt non salvageable. He could pluck the fangs, but he would have no real use for them. He pocketed the stuff, watching the chest vanish before going to the next floor.

The enemies on the next floor were… laughable. Goblins, ugly little green shits with rusted weapons wearing nothing but tattered leather and loincloths. The shots from the turrets pretty much eviscerated them, leaving nothing of real worth or value behind. Since they didn’t hide, and rushed at him with reckless abandon, a single shot from his energy pistol was all it really took. This just left Alex underwhelmed and slightly disappointed.

You would think that fighting something more akin to a human would have slowed him down. And it did for a time. The implication that he killed a sapient being rattled his will a little, but the mentality of ‘Them or me’ made brushing that aside simpler.

Now, the mini boss was a hob goblin shaman which used buffs on a small battalion of goblins. The little hellions rushed at him once it ordered them to attack. Being bunched up meant a single ordinance was over kill, the few that survived didn’t live long, bleeding out from lost limbs and spilled organs. The debuffs were nothing to write about, and the most annoying thing was the poison it inflicted. Overheal nullified that with enough time, leaving him no worse for wear and the stuff in the chest was no better, if actually worse then the first floor.

Third floor and third times the charm… Well, that was what he was hoping. Right now he has level ups to go through, but with the urgency of finding food and water, he put that on the back burner. He was Hangry, thirsty and unbelievably exhausted. Not physically, healing and overhealing got rid of all physical fatigue, but he was mentally and even emotionally drained.

The enemies on the third floor was a combination of bats and goblins that worked rather well together, but ultimately a single turret spelled their doom. A few bats got through here and there and struck him, but his deterrence energy shield killed the glass cannons in one hit, he would just have to wait for his resources to fully recharge before moving on.

___

Alex arrived at the big boss room. The large door with the demonic cross and skull loomed over him but with how things have been going. He really couldn’t care. He just wanted to get , get some water, hopefully some food and crash for the day.

“Lets get this over with.” He grumbled before touching the door and watching it slide open.

Stepping inside, it slammed shut behind him. He was in a massive cavern with eight doors. On the opposite side of him was a throne made of human skulls. Seated on the throne was a large green humanoid which looked something akin to an Orc, a bored expression on his face as he regarded Alex with indifference. On either side of him was a hob goblin shaman.

Behind the throne was another door, likely the exit to this shitty dungeon.

Below the throne stood six orcs, wielding either steel axes or large broad swords.

Lastly, in the massive room was three battalions of goblins equipped with crude daggers, swords and spears.

“It appears we have a intruder in our mi-”

“Surprise Attack!” Shouted Alex as he rolled forth an ordinance like a bowling ball towards the middle battalion like they were bowling pins.

“You dare!” Shouted the enraged orc boss. Alex simply snickered at the mess he made as he quickly placed down his pylon and three turrets.

“ATTACK!!!” Roared the orc. Gripping his armrest as he watched on as the goblins were slaughtered in droves. The buffs that the hob goblins deployed were as ineffective as their debuffs and poison.

Not even 15 seconds later and the goblin horde was slain, causing the orc boss to slam his fist on the armrest of his chair before he rose up, grabbing two, two handed bastared swords which he duel wielded with relative ease. The doors around the room opened, letting in a flood of reinforcements as the orc trudged forth while the six footmen orcs charged.

Alex swallowed nervously at the veritable deluge of enemies that rushed towards him with wild abandon, his ordinance and turrets doing work as he took pot shots between every throw.

The smell of burning flesh, piss, shit and blood made a nauseating cocktail which caused him to gag as the orc boss finally got in range of his turrets, only for him to blur in movement. One moment he was just in range, not even a second later, he had cleaved the three turrets in twain.

He fired his pistol thrice but they were blocked by his swords which glowed an ethereal blue, likely enchanted, magical or both. Alex holstered his pistol and brought out his melee weapon that he has yet to use, his monkey wrench, just in the nick of time, as he managed to block one of the blades, which cut half way through his weapon before the other blade smashed into his energy shield.

He threw his now useless wrench away as the boss was sent tumbling back a few steps from the shock wave, damage from the blow now visible on the orcs chest. Alex threw down his turrets in a triangle formation around the boss in quick succession, which hastily fired on him while he was unbalanced.

He roared in pain as they punched fist sized holes into his flesh and it appeared that he was going into a berserker rage, rushing to the nearest turret and hacking away at it with his swords. Another shot from both surviving turrets and caused him to fall to his knees. Alex had redrawn his pistol at that point, and fired one final overcharged shot, causing his head to explode,After that, he shot the to hobgoblins, bringing an end to this dungeon.

Alex fell to his knees, nervous but relieved laughter escaping his lips as he took in the carnage around him. A golden light filled the room, washing away all the viscera and leaving behind in the center of the room one very large chest.

Alex struggled to get up as he first stashed the two dropped blades from the orc, before he stumbled his way to the chest “Fuck I’m tired.” He groaned out as he reached the chest and opened it up.

Alex decided to wait it out, he needed a quick breather When the timer ended, he found himself seated in a forest in the middle of the day. But he couldn’t rest yet, he needed water, food and somewhere safe to hunker down.

Checking his other rewards and his levels could wait till he is of sound mind.

Letting out a tired yawn, he trudged through the wilderness.

___

Alex wandered through the wilderness, finding nothing even remotely as strong as the first cave bat that nearly done him in. Hostile mobs included level 2 to 5 horned rabbits, and some level 7 to 10 deer

Hankering for food, and with his weapons exploding everything they shot, he decided to try his hand at the non lethal function of his energy gun. After the stunning and killing his fourth rabbit, he found a female deer grazing on its lonesome. He flipped the switch to his pistol, aimed and opened fire on the deer. A bolt of energy exited the gun, slamming into the deer, catching it off guard as it cried in pain before it flopped to the ground in a boneless heap.

Alex rushed forward with the vampire knife and slit its throat before it knew what happened. Upon getting the experience notification, he grabbed it and placed it into his inventory without any complications.

After he did the same with one more deer and a few bunnies, he was ready to find a source of water. With such active wildlife, there had to be some source of water for them to sustain themselves on, which lead to him scouring the forest before finally coming across a river nearing sunset. He really had no choice in the matter, he has no means of boiling the water and it looks clean enough, so he kneeled down, washed his hands of the caked dirt and blood before scooping up several mouthfuls of water until his thirst was quenched.

Now all he had to do was prep some dinner. He walked a ways away from the river before collecting fallen sticks and stones to create a fire pit. Luckily, part of the info dump that was loaded into his brain held the basics of survival which included dressing and preparing food, building temporary shelters and starting a fire.

Getting some flint from nearby the river and dry leaves and grass which he placed on the pile of sticks, he started a fire relatively easy before he pulled out two rabbits to prep. Skinning and removing its organs, he came across a peculiar shard about the size of his pinky nail

Lesser monster core shard. Crystallized magic found in the bodies of monsters. Crafting material

Alex came to an abrupt halt when he read the description and information came to the fore front of his mind.

Monster cores, they were used as a viable energy source in magic tech or other such crafting.

“You’re saying all those monsters I slew had monster cores?” He uttered in shock. “even the bosses?!” He growled out in frustration. Before he did anything stupid, he placed the stone in his inventory.

He never did see any from all the ones he exploded, likely destroying the core in the process, and the bosses seemed redundant beside the two enchanted blades he got from the Orc boss.

His eye twitched in furious indignation as he face palmed. “Fuck my life…”

Ignoring the latest blunder, he dressed his two rabbits, cooked, ate and called it a night, believing that his energy shield and over heal will be more than enough to keep him safe, as the skittish mobs fled at the mere sight of him.

___

Alex awoke to a small explosion and a yowl of pain. Quickly snapping to attention, he took in his surroundings to find it was very early morning and found a lithe and very large black panther with a mangled for-leg staring at him with its hackles raised.

Everything came back to him in an instant at spotting the hostile creature.

‘So it really wasn’t a dream… Fucker must have thought I was easy pickings.’

He was adamant about shooting it with his pistol or summoning a turret since he wanted the corpse relatively intact, so he used his pistols non lethal shot and managed to nab it while it was unbalanced and unaware. Rising to his feet, he slit its throat. He had little remorse for the beast that tried to do the same to him.

Level 16 Shadow panther slain

Additional exp gained for level discrepancy.

‘Oh right, I haven’t leveled up… Then again, should I?’ He pondered as he drew his knife to start processing the panther.

Due to his stats, achievements, advanced classes and racial levels, he has outstanding levels of stats in which nothing on his level or slightly above it posed much of a threat. The lower level he is, the more EXP he will gain when he eventually does decide to level up. For now, he was content with his strength, hell, he hasn’t even properly consolidate his power yet.

By that he doesn’t know how strong he is physically, how much he can endure, how fast he is, smart, those kinds of things. Hes easily 10 times or more powerful than a base line human but even he was having trouble processing that.

‘Consolidate my current power and skills, grind for exp while the iron is hot and hopefully find signs of civilization.’ He told himself. Though people would be in the tutorial, he could still find signs such as stores or houses. Stores or houses means supplies, crafting materials and shelter.

‘Plus, if I’m to have any luck making any magitech, I need more monster cores.’

If he had his monkey wrench still, he would try his hand at melee, since he has proficiency and knowledge on how to use simple weapons and his pistol and spells don’t leave much of anything to salvage.

The lone technomancer found a minor mana core for his troubles which he pocketed before skinning the animal and placing the pelt and body in his inventory to sort through later.

Speaking of sorting through, he needed to sort though the loot he gained from dungeon

‘The healing potions are a good start, though I tend to hoard consumables so I will likely never actually use it since I have a really good healing skill’

‘Berserk is not my cup of tea. My strategy pertains to buffs, healing ,offensive skills and spells.

Maybe I can trade it for something else some time down the road?’

‘The ornate knife however is an upgrade to the vampire knife when it comes to harvesting monster corpses, though its main use appears to be utility only.’

Alex was bummed by his rewards from the boss in the dungeon. ‘Can’t win them all.’ Sighing, he decided to prep some more food, drink more water before following the river up stream.

‘Water is a vital resource, so I will hopefully find signs of civilization following it.’ He thought as he pondered his future actions.

As he ate, he went over his inventory before realizing, he had one more item he got from the dungeon.

He took out what appeared to be a glowing gray token.

Basic class token. To use, simply snap in half.

Alex shrugged before doing as the description read and snapped it in half.

You have used a basic class token. With this token you will receive either a basic combat or utility class. Which will you prefer?

Combat/ Utility

“Interesting…” Now the choice was whether to go combat or utility. Combat would be easy enough to level. He hasn’t even really had a chance to use utility due to the lack of resources and a proper work station, which was actually pretty upsetting.

That being the case, the class he would have an easier time leveling would be combat class. What if his utility had no synergy? Like an alchemist or chef? It would take much, much longer to level in that case.

As such, he selected Combat.

Please select from the following combat classes

Warrior

Vanguard

Mage

Rogue

Archer

Cleric

Basic classes are simplistic and are able to evolve into specializations with enough experience.

“That explains why they are so… Vanilla.” He will need a class that meet his stats and skill requirements. The only one that really sticks out is cleric. Sure fireballs are a fun thought, but he needs to play to his strengths.

With his passive racial skill for heals and buffs, it was a shoe in. Maybe he could get a more wide range of healing skills or even unlock buffs at a later stage.

Cleric A healing Shepard of the faith, Clerics are able to conjure forth miracles to heal, restore, bless and invigorate your wayward sheep.

You gain 3 INT 2 WIS 2 CON and 1 Allocation point per level.

'Wow, this shows how much more powerful my advanced classes are. Just look at those shitty stat gains for a basic class.'

Skills include;

Lay on hands. Lv 1

A contact healing spell that will restore health to the target at a rate of 10 MP per second. Health restored is INT/10 per second.

‘Don’t think ill really use that spell anytime soon unless I'm truly desperate.’ Mused Alex as he checked his rabbit on a stick.

Restore; Lv 1

35 MP per cast

Restore is a miracle that will remove poison, bleed, paralysis, sleep, and confusion

Bless; Lv 1

50 MP per cast. Bless up to a total of 4 people for 1 hour. Bless increases physical attributes by 12%

Bless and restore seem to be staple healing and buff spells. Alex guessed it wasn’t such a big loss so he finalized his selection.

Alex then doused the fire after he finished his meal and headed back to the river so he could head up stream. On his way he shot a few more deer that he managed to catch off guard in order to process them for cores, meat and hide later on.

He made sure to take a sustainable jog as he traversed the the forest for the better half of the day, only stopping to snack on some meat he prepped and wrapped in a leaf. It wasn’t much without seasoning but beggars can’t be choosers, before he camped once the sun started to set over the horizon.

Sadly for Alex, this went on for the four days before broke free of the forest into a wide open plain. The river widened into a massive crystal clear lake. Near the lake is what caught his eye.

“Civilization.” He breathed a sigh of relief. There was a stone wall surrounding a town, which opened up towards the water where a small dock and a few fishing boats where located. The fishing boats are what caught his eye however.

They were manned by people.
