“Nobody moves!”
The cops wasted no time trying to assess the situation within the portal, opting to go guns blazing right the moment they stepped out of the rift in space.
One by one, a total of six policemen showed up, all already armed and ready to shoot at anyone or anything that dared to disobey their orders.
A stunned silence followed.
A small group of young adults who had just gone through their first battle only to then watch an entire horde of fiends fall to their deaths for seemingly no reason slowly turned their heads to look at the policemen with a fair dose of amusement.
Even Rob, the only one in the group that appeared to have any respect for authorities didn’t seem to be happy seeing law enforcement officers appear on the scene like that. And his expression only soured when one of them pointed his gun directly at him.
The silence stretched from a single instant into a second and then a short while, the time the cops used to finally take a proper look around.
Then, it was their turn to turn still and perfectly silent, as they stared wide-eyed at a whole bunch of corpses littering the portal spawn zone.
“Are you really sure pointing guns at me, my family, and friends is the right thing to do here?” Leo spoke out, casually keeping his hands in the pockets of his pants while making sure to keep his thumbs outside said pockets.
He didn’t move, sure, not all that eager to push the police to actually use their guns.
And while simple projectiles like bullets could hardly do him any harm… The same couldn’t be said about his brothers or Millie. And even for all the power he could use now that he harvested the cores from the third wave…
Going directly against law enforcement officers seems as smart of an idea as it would be for Leo to openly reveal all of his powers for all the world to see and know.
“You, shut the fuck…”
The policeman that so eagerly attempted to over-shout Leo’s concern suddenly found himself unable to articulate the latter half of his order. The man’s eyes went wide and a few drops of sweat appeared on his forehead. His eyes danced in confusion, making it seem as if the man was looking for some answers somewhere…

Only for the man to stop trembling a mere moment after the realization struck him, only to raise his arms right back to the standard tactical position as he turned the muzzle of his gun over to Leo.
“This place isn’t a part of the world we came from and as such,” Leo leaned his head over his shoulder with a casual smile, “your authority as peace officers doesn’t extend here.”
Leo’s face suddenly went blank, all of the obviously fake sympathy and consideration washed away, leaving nothing behind to replace it.
“So I will ask you to take a look around…” Leo purposefully made a short pause in his words, only to then reveal a single spark of anger in his expression, ‘… and consider whether or not trying to threaten me and my family with guns is really the best course of action for you.”
It wasn’t only the fiends’ corpses that the rest of the policemen took a glance off. In fact, they all appeared to be more concerned with the sudden affliction that their companion was met with rather than the still-warm corpses of the otherworldly monsters all over the place.
And soon enough, with Leo taking the lead when it came to talking, their guns started to gravitate towards him.
“You can save your sophistry for when we are back…”
“Back on the other side?” Leo interjected, now turning his expression into one of worry, as if the policemen were either so naive he just couldn’t help but feel concerned… Or as if they were naive enough to believe he was the one as naive as necessary for their words to work on him. “Back to where you actually have authority?”
Leo shook his head.
“No, thank you. I’m good where I am. But I won’t be able to say the same about you if you keep aiming those silly guns of yours at me or anyone behind me.”
There was absolutely no reason for Leo to be worried.
Sure, he couldn’t really stop the police if they all unanimously decided to just go and start blasting. It would be too much to ask of him to perfectly predict the path and speed of each and every bullet they would shoot in a situation like this to stop them in their tracks.
But there was absolutely no reason for that.
After all, the very moment Leo saw those men come inside the portal while bearing guns, he ensured not a single weapon of theirs would work.
‘For how great of a weapon those can be, they have no mana,’ Leo thought, amused by the situation more than he was actually concerned. ‘That makes it a child’s play to mess with them.’
Neither the guns nor the ammunition loaded in their mags had even the tiniest iota of magic in them. And that made those weapons as easy for Leo to control with his telekinesis as it was for him to locate, lock-in, and then extract the monsters' cores once they were dead.
He couldn’t do so before, with the fiends still alive and kicking. He had to first kill them to neutralize the primitive will that held all of those fiends’ mana in check, preventing the young man from using the first layer of his second legacy core as a tool for battle.
But right now? With a pretty much powerless bunch of power-tripping cops?
“Now, now, everyone calm down,” finally, one of the officers spoke out while lowering his weapon and turning his eyes to bestow his companions, ‘subordinates?’, with a scolding glance.
Following that short exchange, one by one, the cops brought their guns down.
They didn’t holster them, opting to stand at the ready with their guns lowered but still perfectly fine within the grip of their hands.
“As for you,” the leader of the police turned his head over as he looked at Leo. “Do you care to explain what’s going on here?” the policeman asked, only to shake his head as if to deny the question he just asked. “No, that doesn’t matter,” the policeman gritted his teeth for a bit before throwing a cautious stare at Leo as he attempted to seize Leo from the bottom of the soles of his feet very top of his head.
“You seem to know quite a bit about this place,” the officer first stated, only for the look on his face to grow much sharper than before.
“So, how about you tell us what exactly is this place all about?”
