Zathrian Acheron Lestrange, an anti-hero in Remembering World. A Valencourtian prince who was bestowed with the title of marquess after his father, the Grand Duke. He was sent to Evermore as a diplomat between the two nations. He was described as devilishly handsome, cunning and good at making acquaintances. In short, he was the perfect person for the job.
In the game, it was implied that Zathrian harboured romantic feelings for Runathea Goldenhart, his childhood friend and a village girl who went for the spiritualist path. To win her affection, Zathrian was motivated to become a highly skilled knight and an ideal ruler she could be proud of. He planned to ask her hand in marriage once he came back, but when he returned, he heard Runathea set out on a journey to be a highly skilled spiritualist. Defeated, Zathrian faithfully waited.
On the night of Lilivienne’s debutante ball, Zathrian was given a black jade necklace by a noblewoman who was a cult member. The cult was known as the Forsaken Order, and they worshipped the evil god Astaroth. Their objective was to unseal the god from his imprisonment under the holy temple of the capital. Zathrian thought of the jewellery solely as a simple gift and wore it without thinking ill of it.
Its dark power had possessed Zathrian to follow the cult’s orders out of his will. They used him to unseal the slumbering demon that was sealed by the church centuries ago. When Astaroth’s spirit possessed Zathrian, he turned into a giant demon god and released thousands of possessed forsakers to bring destruction to the kingdom. Many civilians lost their lives—including Lilivienne who was the chosen maiden at the Grand Mass. That eventful day was called the Cataclysm.
Zathrian’s monster form turned into a game boss in the name of Diabolos Apocalypsis. Maximilian and his allies worked together to defeat him. When he returned to his human form, the forsakers vanished, and Zathrian was immediately captured to be set for execution.
Valencourt decided to sacrifice one of their royals to keep the peace between the two nations. But the night before his beheading, Zathrian was kidnapped by mysterious men and woke up in an underground facility called AUGEX (Augmentation Center of Exobiology) on a small island in Monmo, an island country in eastern Yuria.
When Evermore found the prince missing, they accused Valencourt of intervening and finally declared war. Queen Serenova sent her knights to find her nephew and capture him alive, stating if she had to take his life into her own hands while the whole world was watching, she would do it for the sake of bringing back peace. In this war, more people have died—one of them was Alasdair.
Meanwhile, Zathrian underwent various experiments for the next two years in a hydrogenic crystal at the hands of a mad doctor, Malcolm. Malcolm was in Evermore when the Cataclysm happened and caught Zathrian’s interest. Malcolm is a researcher who spends decades proving biological enhancement is a better method to let humans manifest elements rather than through magical methods as he finds it traditional for the modern era. The scholars of Galicia Magic Academy rejected this research multiple times.
Malcolm captured hundreds of humans to experiment on, injecting ancient demon cells extracted from the fallen empire of Albion, where Maximilian originated—the last prince and the last human of the old world. In his thesis, he wrote that the more corrupt a human soul is, the more its body can tolerate the demon cells. Hence, he found Zathrian as the new perfect test subject.

Zathrian’s body has been injected with ancient demon cells so much that he awakened and went on a rampage, killing all of the subjects and researchers including Malcolm. His newly acquired power from the experiments was necromancy, gaining him the ability to summon ancient demons—similar to shamans who call for the nature spirits. However, the experiments jumbled his mind so much that he was unable to remember the gruesome mess he just made at the AUGEX facility. He didn’t even know his own name or his past.
Zathrian found himself wandering the kingdom of Galicia as “Granger” under a mask, as he tried to find pieces of himself. There, he met Runa once again. Even with the mask on, Runa immediately knew who he was. She knew him so well that her strong faith in him told her there was something more behind the Cataclysm two years ago, that Zathrian was innocent.
Runa’s existence helped Zathrian regain his memories before he was captured by AUGEX. The guilt of Cataclysm urged him to atone for his sins—despite Runa telling him it wasn’t his fault. Without her knowledge, Zathrian returned to Valencourt to surrender himself only to get exiled, as his sudden appearance might trigger another war that just apparently ended under a peace treaty rule.
Zathrian went back to Galicia in an attempt to start a new life as a mercenary, with immense guilt still lingering within his heart, he succumbed to depression. Runa was understanding and was there for him, and yet he put distance between them as he feared she would learn of his necromancer ability, and what he had been through at the hands of AUGEX.
Later on, an ancient dark sorcerer called Merodach would appear in downtown of Galicia and terrorize the city after locating Maximilian in the kingdom. Merodach is a demon from the Albion Age. He was set to hunt down Maximilian before he sealed himself frozen in time at the waters under the island of AUGEX facility, after suffering a fatal injury from the Albion mages. However, Zathrian’s awakening cracked Merodach’s slumber.
Together with Maximilian, Runa and the others, the team fought against Merodach. However, due to Zathrian’s experimentation, Merodach was able to control him through his ancient demon cells. He ended up hurting his friends with his demon summons, letting Merodach escape. Maximilian eventually defeated Zathrian which put him in a coma. During the treatment, Maximilian learned who the real Granger was.
Shortly, Zathrian woke up with his friends around him, surprised at the thought they looked after him despite putting their lives in danger. This only worsened his guilt. So without saying a word, Zathrian left the following night. Once again, he was alone.
During the final act of the game, he fought alongside Maximilian and the others for the last time. By this time, he has cured himself of the demon cells with the help of a retired AUGEX scientist and has become a skilled necromancer. Zathrian ended up getting killed as he sacrificed himself for Maximilian, hoping it was heroic enough to free himself of the guilt he had been enduring in his life.
Zathrian Lestrange’s life was ruined by the Forsaken Order. He lost his life guilty of sins he didn’t mean. He was stated to be watching over his friends after his death, hinting about the exploration of the spirit garden and multiverses in future games, according to the game developers.
His downfall started with the jade necklace. If I prevent him from meeting that forsaker cultist at my upcoming ball, I can save him from his tragic end. I’m not going to die from the Cataclysm and the war wouldn’t happen. Not only mine but many lives could be saved!
“That’s it!”
“Pardon me, my lady?” Elise almost dropped the teacups at my sudden scream.
“Elise, bring me the list of the guests!”
