A Caucasian woman walks down the white, pristine hallway. Her black heels taps the floor with every step, making a sound that echoes throughout the halls. She wore a long lab coat that reached a few inches below her waist. A black skirt reached two inches below her knee and underneath her lab coat was a black shirt. On her right hand, she had a watch. A digital clock face was shown on the watch. On her left wrist was a blue band, this is what lets her roam freely in the facility. This band was her identification tag, her access key to the different levels in the facility, and displayed her level of authority. In her right arm was a holographic clipboard colored aquamarine. It displayed confidential data that many would kill to get their hands on.
She walked in the lowest level in the facility, the fifth level. She kept walking until she reached a door, this was the director's office. To the left of the door was a blue panel. She waved her wrist band over and the door slid open. She stepped in as the door closed itself behind her.
Inside, she found a person with brown hair with their head down on the blue metal desk sleeping. He had the same lab coat as she did along with brown khakis.
"Sir?" she asked. No response came.
"Sir?!" she said agitated.
She gave a brief sigh. With a tap, her holographic clipboard disappeared. She then walked up to the desk where the person laid their head. She hesitated but then whacked him as hard as she can on the head. The person was thrown back, falling out of their chair and behind the desk.
"Ow~"
"Dr. Lumen, you are not allowed to doze off on the day of the final testing."
Dr. Aurora Lumen was the director of this facility. He had the appearance of an adolescent but his real age is unknown. His build was average and he stood at a height of 5' 7" while Dr. Ashley was 5' 8". He rubbed his head as he got back into his seat. He looked up at the woman with his dark violet eyes. He was not angry but was seemingly relieved.
"Oh! It's just you Dr. Ashley! I was wondering who in the facility had brute-like strength but the voice of a woman. I only realize now that it can only be you."
Dr. Ashley gave out a murderous intent as Dr. Lumen dusts himself off and gave a smile.
*I still cannot fathom the fact that this person is the greatest mind in the universe*, was her thought.
"So, since you're here, I take it that the final test is about to take place?"
Dr. Ashley was Dr. Lumen's assistant. She got the job a year ago and she still cannot believe that this person was the greatest mind to ever live. His full name was Aurora Lumen. She did some background research and all she found were articles of his achievements. She could list them all but that would take too long.
The occasional story of eradicating a disease or virus, creating a serum that elongates a person's life for a few thousand years, creating a new and replenishable energy source, basically any kind of inspiring and amazing achievements that one can think of. To help the Inter-galactic Federation fight some newly discovered alien empire, he created a weapon capable of wiping out a half a galaxy which he supposedly destroyed all documents and research of after the war. Mostly, his creations were made to help others and to advance technology. Some darker creations, well you can ponder about that.
Dr. Lumen got out of his seat and put an arm around Dr. Ashley's neck.
"Let's start the final tests shall we?"
Dr. Ashley felt hot and uncomfortable. She looked at his eyes as he looked at her. After spending a year with Dr. Lumen, she was still unable to read him or his expression. Right now, she can see a hint of nervousness reflecting in his eyes.
*What could be going on under those calculating eyes?*
"So are we heading out now?" he asked, "I still get lost in this facility by the way."
Dr. Ashley was very tempted to punch him in the face while he was grinning.
"Of course Dr. Lumen."
"Just call me Aurora, why do you need to keep switching to Dr. Lumen anyways?"
"Alright Dr. Aurora."
The sound of his first name made Dr. Ashley feel tingly
"Well that's an improvement at least."
**************************************************************************************
The facility was underground, the first floor was on the surface and the second to fifth went underground. The fifth floor was the deepest underground. The facility was on a small rocky planet revolving around a blue star. The planet was like Earth's moon. Its surface was sandy and grainy, appearing gray in color.
As the two made their way, a security guard walked around on the first floor accompanied by a hovering spherical security drone.
"Why does this place need security? No one but the top guys in the government know about thi-"
As if he made his own death flag, an explosion rocked the first floor and the power went out.
The security guard tumbled around before getting his bearings. He was in an empty hallway. It was pitch black but thanks to his augmented eyes, he had night vision. He whipped out a laser pistol and moved along with his drone by his side.
"What do you think just happened?" he asked his drone.
The drone kept silent.
"Of course you can't talk, you have no speech features."
The place was unnervingly silent, the director sent mostly everyone, except those directly involved with the test today, on vacation. Soon, he reached the corner. He slowly made a right turn to continue down the corridor. The last thing he saw was the butt of a rifle coming towards his face.
**************************************************************************************
The lower levels weren't affected by the power outage yet. The ones on the fifth level weren't even alerted. Most guards were on vacation and drones covered for them. Scanners, cameras, and most drones were taken offline.
Dr. Ashley and Dr. Aurora made their way to the testing chamber.
The met two large and sturdy steel blast doors. That is not the testing chamber by the way. Instead, those are actually the doors to the elevator. While constructing the facility, Aurora gave his blueprints to the lead architect and he only asks why must the elevator to the testing chamber be covered with blast doors.
"I need time", was his response.
Without further ado, Dr. Aurora waved his identification band over the blast door's panel. Loud whirring followed after and the twin doors open.
"I still don't quite understand why you would like to carry out the experiment yourself when there is a very huge risk to your well-being involved."
"Our well-being to be precise", he responded.
They stepped into the elevator and headed down.
A small team of observers and researchers watched the testing chamber through a camera on the fifth floor to note results.
"Today's the day!" one researcher said.
"Why is it that most of the people are on leave today? Were they not informed that today is the big day when the last experiment is carried out?"
The doors to the spectator's room blasted open, injuring two standing near the door as five people in full black military gear barged in with guns raised.
"Capture the VIPs, kill the rest."
This black ops units killed most of the observers who were high-standing personnel but not scientists. A few researchers stood standing as they were tackled and tied up.
One of the people in all black military gear walked up to the live feed of the testing chamber. One panel displayed Dr. Aurora and Dr. Ashley in the elevator. Another person came up and gave a salute.
"The blast doors are making the capture of Doctor Aurora Lumen a pain", the low-ranking solder said.
"Securing him is our priority. Don't worry, he can't escape, we aren't exactly solo here. Cut the power to the elevator."
Meanwhile, Dr. Ashley and Aurora stood in the center of the elevator. Dr. Ashley was still annoyed at how Aurora acted so carefree still as he whistled an elevator tune.
Suddenly, the lights went out and the elevator came to a halt.
"A malfunction? I never heard of it happening in a facility this high tech."
Dr. Ashley only pondered as Aurora knew what was happening all too well.
"Tch! They even got my hidden power generator. They must have been well prepared and informed."
"What?" was all Dr. Ashley could ask as Aurora knelt down and activated the glow function of his identification band. His band glowed green and exhibited light for the entire elevator as he patted the elevator's floor.
His hand grasped a gray panel and lifted up a loose tile on the floor.
"Here it is!"
He grabbed a lever and pulled. The elevator's doors slid open and revealed a pitch dark elevator shaft. While designing the facility, Aurora made sure that the elevator had about a two feet gap from the doors to the walls of the shaft.
Aurora peered down and saw bottom of the shaft illuminated by emergency lights about a hundred feet down. Still standing near the now open elevator doors, Aurora turned to Dr. Ashley.
"Dr. Ashley, take my hand!" he demanded.
"What's with the demanding attitude? Shouldn't we wait for the elevator to restart or to call for help?"
"I'll explain later!"
"Is this another one of your schemes? I could handle your carefree attitude, your flirting, and insults but I am not taking part in your schemes."
Aurora rolled his eyes.
*My acting was better than I thought. Now's not the time to stand around. I didn't think I'd resort to this.*
Aurora sighed and raised his right hand.
"I hold nude holo-pics of you in this disk", he said nonchalantly while waving around a holographic disk four inches in diameter."
This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.
"You what?!"
She jumped over there to grab the disk as Aurora grabbed her wrist and plunges the two of them down the shaft.
"EEEEEEEEIP!" Dr. Ashley shrieked.
Aurora grabbed onto a cable on the wall of the elevator shaft, slowing their descent. Reaching the bottom, his hand was burning and his arm nearly dislocated but none of those alarmed him as he only sought to run from the rampaging Dr. Ashley.
He ran into the testing chamber, a sleek, white chamber walled in on four sides with a pedestal holding a device glowing neon blue.
He puts the device on around his left wrist over his identification band as Dr. Ashley came in after.
"Disk! Now!!!"
Surely this must be an act just as that one thought Aurora had earlier right? Well . . .
Aurora handed (was forced to give) Dr. Ashley the holo-disk peacefully (after getting pummeled).
She immediately put the disk into her holo-clipboard. It could project images and videos and she was cherry red at what she saw.
"Why do you have these!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Aurora checked for bruising as he faced Dr. Ashley who evolved from a mad woman to a furious and a bit insane in the eye woman.
"You see, while you were on one of your weekly drinking excursions, you started sending me these holo-pictures six months ago."
"Why?"
She then tapped onto a video that piqued her curiosity that was saved on the disk. She saw Aurora in his office with a serious demeanor.
"Today I have received a frightening picture. A nude picture of my assistant named Dr. Ashley, code-named Monster Woman."
*I was still in my act at the time wasn't I?* Aurora thought. He felt a death glare as the holo-vid continued.
"This code-name is befitting for a woman with unnatural strength and aggressiveness. Without further ado, I have decided from this point onward to record a monthly observation on the subject named "Doctor Jennifer Ashley". I fear my life will end if she ever manages to get her hands on this disk."
*I'm still fearing for my life right now.*
"Looking back when Dr. Ashley first started working, I noticed no feeling harbored towards me besides annoyance, frustration, hate, and anger. Three months in when she first started working, I noticed her aggressive and animal-like behavior lessen towards me. At first I thought she would gut me the second I let my guard down, but something far worse than I imagined happened . . ."
Aurora in the holo-vid got out a security recording on his office. He was asleep in the office as he played the recording caught by the camera in his office.
"I accidentally fell asleep as Dr. Ashley came into my office to hand me some tea. I fell asleep and being asleep near such a monstrous creature is never good. I expect getting mauled . . . or at least getting hot tea poured onto my head but she gave a gentle smile. She patted my head while still smiling. A devilish smile, no way can it be a true smile."
A huge killing intent emanated from Dr. Ashley.
"But her face was red as she quickly gave me a slap, waking me up. I deduced that this was actually the sign of a crush on me."
Dr. Ashley can only respond with a "Huh?" as the holo-vid continued.
"It was when six months in had passed, around today, was when I received this horrifying picture."
A heavily pixelated nude picture was shown with Dr. Ashley's eye's covered by a black bar.
"I conclude that about now, Dr. Ashley is harboring feelings of love, a terrifying love, and conveying it in a horrid fashion. I'll put all pics sent by her into this disk. Anyways, I intently scanned the pictures-"
A punch nearly knocked out Aurora after the holo-vid version of him confessing that he looked at the pictures bottom to top.
"She was drunk and this is probably the reason why she would send these pictures. I doubt she can remember sending these next morning. My detailed report is in my office along with copies of the pictures."
Dr. Ashley was about to go back out to the elevator shaft before Aurora stopped her.
"Wait!"
"Don't touch me!"
The doors to the testing chamber was, in theory, unable to be breached.
"Dr. Jennifer Ashley, I order you to halt!"
Aurora was yelling at this point as tears streamed down Dr. Ashley's cheek.
"I can't believe you would actually toy with my feelings like that!" she yelled.
"I'm sorry-that was all an act, I swear."
"Sorry? An act?! I had these feelings but you just put them all to the side! Making these constant sick jokes not caring for my feelings! "
"Ashley I can explain! There are special operatives outside that door. Don't open it or you risk both of our lives!"
A still silence stood between them.
Suddenly, Dr. Ashley's watch resounded in the chamber.
"Doctor Jennifer Ashley, open the door from the inside, we'll handle the rest."
"Ashley . . . . . . you were an agent?"
She started sniffling before wiping her tears away with the sleeve of her lab coat.
"I'm sorry doctor. I was an agent the entire time. I was only so aggressive towards you because that was I took biometric scans of you to give to the operatives. Your biometric scans is a free pass into the facility without raising an alarm. The drones believe that the operatives were just you when they had all details about your biometric scan. The entire year consisted of me trying to replicate your identification band, that's how the operatives were so quick to get in and control the facility."
Aurora slumped down slowly with his back to the pedestal.
"Oh dear, I've been played by an undercover agent even though I put on a fake act in order to find undercover agents myself! Psychology can't help me find the most professional agents can I?"
"Yep! Number one agent on the field", Dr. Ashley said.
She chuckled as she lingered towards the panel to the doors. She turned around with a single tear down her cheek, looking Aurora straight in the eye.
"I actually did fall for you."
She waved her identification band over the panel as the doors slowly slid open. The special operatives circled Aurora as the team leader faced Aurora.
"Doctor Aurora Lumen, you're coming with us", the leader of the special operatives said.
"Oh, what for? Are you here to help with the experiment?"
"No, our bosses have great interest in you and decided to bring you in. If you come along nicely our bosses can get you anything you want if you give them some of your inventions."
"Ah, okay, um, I can't. You see, the Inter-galactic Federation is kind of my employer and regulates all of my inventions so this is a huge breach in contract", Aurora said.
The special operatives leader stepped over to Ashley.
"Is there a trap or any such things Doctor Aurora may have planned."
Dr. Ashley only saw Aurora tapping furiously onto his left wrist behind his back as he sat with his back to the pedestal.
"I think it may be to late to nab him", she said.
"Why exactly? He's right there."
"Before I have to get going, Ashley, I forgive you for deceiving me, I have deceived you too with my act. I sincerely apologize with the bottom of my heart."
Ashley gave him a smile.
"I'll forgive you if you forget every picture I sent you and if you get me a drink."
"Haha! The amount of times you asked me to get you another drink! You know how heavy you were when I carried you from the bar on the first level to the residency in the fourth level?!"
"What?"
"You did send me those pics but also sent a message to help you get to your room. You know it was quite awkward when I have to dress you up in the bar. Luckily you reserved a table inside a private room each time. The amount of times I've seen your figure is quite interesting, to horrid to recount."
"Wha-! Hey!!!!!"
She was bright red as some special operatives tugged their collars and some did the wolf whistle. A loud beep resounded in the testing chamber. A low whir and a blue light started up behind Aurora's back. Ashley should be tackling Aurora right now but she can only smile.
"Was the test a success Doctor Lumen?" Dr. Ashley asked.
"Yes Doctor Ashley, it was a success."
A blue light engulfed Aurora's body, blinding those staring. Everyone looked away and a few moments later, the light was gone along with Aurora.
"Wha- What was that right now? What were you testing? Researching?" the leader of the special operatives demanded to know as he grabbed Ashley's lab coat as she smiled.
"That was Dr. Lumen's new device. We were researching the possibility of a multiverse. We can conclude that the multiverse theory is true. His device allows people to jump from one universe to another. He's long gone by now and it took an entire ten years for Doctor Lumen to create that device. I know because I asked. Five of those years actually had a team working on the device, the other five was just Doctor Lumen all by himself. We have no clue where his research during those five years are so unless he chooses to find a way back, we can never hope to find him."
"Tch! You're lucky that you're our best undercover agent because I would beat you into submission."
The special operatives leader let go of her lab coat as all the agents left one by one. Ashley was the last one in the room.
She turned around, prepared to leave, but then heard a faint beeping underneath the pedestal.
"So that idiot prepared a method to return to his own world I guess. I never thought that one of the times I whacked his sorry head was a time where I saw his plans for the beacon. Well there is an infinite number of worlds out there, you've got to keep track of how you can catalog the worlds and how you can get back to a world."
She left with a smile as the beeping continued in a monotone pace, on and on and on and on.
