Chapter 1 : Finally Playing

Friday Morning is a sunny morning and the end of the week, but this is not what the student of Grand Valley University is being happy about. One can see from the faces of the students that going to school their excitement and newly formed anticipation because of the news their heard this morning. This morning the company behind the game called "Guardian's Tower" have announce an expansion pack that will extend the game world and also change the level cap of the game. The student of the university wishes that the lectures will go fast and start playing their game. Going to their classroom's, students is imagining what the new world is like.

The "Guardian's Tower" is a VRMMORPG are game about magic and swords, this is the very first VRMMORPG ever created and been popular ever since. The game gave a medieval world with magic’s and sword; the player can fight goblins, Orc and even Dragons. But this is not what it makes about the game popular; Magic is what it makes popular. Magic that can make you fly, makes you fast, strong and becoming the best in the world. The system of how magic works in this world is best kept secret of the company that makes the game and because of it, there’s no other VMMORPG games has been made that can compare in this game.

But all commotion is nothing to do with Zake Thompson. Zake is one of the so called "Not-Playing-This-Game-Because-Of-The-Hype" literally. He is having hard time understanding why this game is popular, are people playing this game masochist? You want to fight a dragon? Yeah good luck with that, just say Hi for me to its Dragon breath that will burn you to death, Oh? You want to me to fly to the sky sorry but I’m afraid of heights. Many told Zake that this game not only about fighting and magic they also told him that he can enjoy it to his own way but Zake still not changing his mind about not playing the game.

Zake is walking in the along hallways when one of the student hook his arm around his shoulders.

"Zake I have amazing news for you!”

"Is this about that game again? I already watched it in the news earlier and I don’t care".

"Yes! This is about the game but, No! Is not about the news! This is about you!”

Zake remove the arm around his shoulder and face his friend “And that is?".

"Avegail is playing Guardians tower!”

"Ave is playing Guardians tower?! Why did I have not heard about this? Are you lying to me to make me playing this game?!”

"I'm not lying to you, this is the first time I heard her playing too. I also found out that she was playing it for a really long time and is that even surprising? Almost all the people in the world are playing VRMMORPG. But it’s incredible that she hid it for a really long time when she is so popular in this university".

In Zake mind he is thinking "even she is playing that game, did I underestimate this game too much" conflicted face is emerging in the usually cold face of Zake and this is the first time his friend Mark is seeing it, but he is not surprise because he knows that Zake has been in love on Abegail for about three years now starting on his first year in college.

Mark knows that this is the opportunity to make his friend play this game so he gave a little push.

"If you only play this game you can get close to avegail, imagine that you can play and get close in this game with her and I also heard with this expansion they will add the so called marriage system".

Base on his knowledge that Avegail is not playing this game because of the same reason like to him but now he knows his she is also playing it, does it means that he will have to play it too?! , before he finish his thoughts the school bell rings indicating the start of class.

"I going to go now, see you later".

"Wait! Tell me how you knew she is playing Guardian's".

"I will tell you later, think about if you will play first" Mark said before he run off to his classroom. Mark knows Zake's thoughts too well because anything about that girl will shaken this friends of his. Zake turn to his left to where his classroom is and go in with still conflicted face.

All the students turn to the door when Zake enters and the gaped at his looks, the usual cold face now have conflicted expression, but Zake is still immerse in his thoughts did not notice any of this, even if he knows he will not care.

He have a crush on the girl named Avegail Aarons, Abe is a cute girl with sweet personality (at least that what's Zake thinks), she also popular in the school because of her beauty and brains, it’s no wonder that he has a crush on her for about three years now. Like any other boys who experiencing their first crush and first love he didn't know what to do to his feelings and like that, three years had gone by but he still not confessing his feelings to her.

He did not hate the "Guardians towers" he just don't understand what why people is addicted to this "Computer" game they can use their time in more productive game like basketball, soccer or chess, but because of his three years long unrequited love; his decision is crumbling faster that even him is astonished.

Zake is still immersing in his thoughts after he go out the classroom and when Mark find him outside of his classroom.

"How was it? Are you finally decided to play the Guardian's?"

"Before that how did you knew she is playing Guardians Tower?"

"Relax, I heard it from her best friend Sophia when she asked Avegail and she said that she's been playing it for a long time, she did not tell them because of privacy reasons. And they still don't know her username".

"You don't even know her username so how do you expect me to find her in millions and millions of player online?"

"Just play the game man, just think of it as one step closer to each other and finding her will just a bonus. At least you both will have the same hobby"

"Alright, I will register tonight"

"Yes!! Man we will be the best duo in the game; we are now both popular in school and will be popular in the game"

"Don't expect on it, I'll quit if I don't like it"

"It’s alright, I’ve been asking you to play this game for three years and finally you will play it, even it's for finding ave, let's go and buy gaming set"

"No, I already have a gaming set that I use when chatting on my parents and I think that it can run the game"

"That old gaming set? That’s not even updated anymore and maybe there's even a problem in that"

"It’s okay; I will not even playing seriously"

"Well it doesn't matter; you will be playing the game now"

"Well lets chat later, I will still need to buy the game, see you in the game" and Zake hurriedly go out in the hallway to get to a gaming store to buy the game. Mark only stood there smirking thinking of this friend that have lovesickness and he also get out of the hallway to tell their other friends about Zake finally playing the game.

Both didn't know that others is listening to their conversation; the listeners hurriedly pass the message to their friends who pass to their other friends. They didn't know that they cause huge commotion. Finally the Cold King is playing the Guardian's Tower.
