Prologue

The masked man stood on top of a building and overlooked the fight below. A grin, or perhaps a snarl was barely visible under his skeletal canine mask.

The man was smiling since he had spotted three monsters below that weren’t a part of his collection yet and he loved nothing more than collecting monsters.

He shifted into a frogman and leapt 20 metres up into the air before shifting once again into a large crow with bladed wings, he continued gaining altitude before diving down, as he dived he transformed into a 6 metre tall golem of stone and magma, he used this forms inborn stone magic to shape himself into a rocky, molten missile.

When he landed, fire and lava exploded outwards killing hundreds of monsters as well as a few humans that were caught in the crossfire.

Through all the carnage, brutality and different forms, the canine skull mask was always constant, shifting in size and shape to fit his new bodies.

He shifted once again, this time into a thin, dark black lizard. He dropped to all fours and weaved through the horde of monsters until he finally reached his first target, an oversized, bipedal, praying mantis, its exoskeleton resembled plate armour and its claws were as large as greatswords.

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

The mantis saw him coming and swung its blade but the masked man didn’t stop, he didn’t even dodge, he just shifted into a slime and the blade past through him harmlessly, he wrapped his slimy body around the mantis’ torso then shifted into an giant snake allowing him to crush the bug effortlessly.

The man shifted once again this time taking the form of what he had killed, then swept through the field of monsters like a farmer reaping wheat, the man quickly reached his next target, a large snake with the head of a rooster and a scorpion barb at the end of its tail,

It’s as strange as it’s deadly.

The man thought watching it spray acidic gas over the adventurers targeting it, this was perfect for the man as the rooster serpent never saw is blades before they slashed through its body, bisecting it.

The man once again shifted, this time into the strange snake creature.

He coated himself in acidic gas and rolled through the battlefield like a poisonous thunderstorm.

It was easy to find his last target, as it was surrounded by a gargantuan pool of blood. In the centre of the pool of blood was a small, crimson bunny. It was probably another colour before being dyed by the deaths of everything around it.

The man slithered out onto the pool of blood. Pondering at how the bunny had killed so many. He knew very well how looks could be deceiving.

He wouldn’t have to wait long however as the bunny soon glanced at him then proceeded to unfold itself into a giant mass of tentacles, teeth and eyes that slightly resembled a bunny.

The man just grinned all the harder, he had finally met his first Eldritch.
