Chapter 2

Molly looked at the computer screen and the figure that looked tired on the other end. Looking at the name on the screen Molly decided to be polite because if she was not then her family was in deep trouble. Reading the name on the screen Kelly Brooks Molly got ready to cry if needed.

“I am sorry to disturb you Kelly. Its just my son needs rehab he is addicted to pain killers and was told because I am his mother he can not be treated.”

“Its not that we do not want to treat your son but placers are limited. It looks like you have a red mark oh dear. It looks like a death mark. You killed 325.5644 children under the age of 12”

Molly blinked “Wait what I never would do something like that there must be a mistake.”

“You sold 2 percent of your shares in the Neo Drug Company company that was developing a cancer cure to a major mega corporation which patented the drug and refused to allow anyone to produce it. It took five years for the patent to run out in that time a estimated 326 children under the age of 12 died. As the drug would have been marketed at 60 dollars each of those deaths are listed on your sheet”

Kelly looked panicked. “The thing is the computer will not let your son take the spot of someone who might have died due to your actions. 16,626 children died in total due to lack of funds for treatment your 2 percent roughly killed 326. ” Kelly blinked “I am afraid that is just the start. It looks like you invested the cash you took from your 2 percent in Neo Drug Company was invested in the drug companies that would have been put out of business by its new cure for cancer.”

Kelly eyes turned hard “You knew the drug would save thousands and you helped them shut the company down anyway.”

Molly tried to think. Yes she had known that selling her shares in the Neo Drug Company would make it easier for the cancer drug they had just finished testing to be shut down. The fact she then invested in the companies the drug would have put out of business showed she knew what was happening.

“Wait I helped fake the ventilator papers. I helped make sure the 3200 ventilator that were being shipped out were sold here.”

Kelly began to tap her computer screen “I am sorry you could ask for a review. It looks like you helped keep thousands of the cheaper ventilator in the country. A lot of folks could not afford the 25000 ventilators but the 500 dollar ones you supplied saved a lot of lives.”

Molly turned red she had diverted the 3200 ventilators not the 500 or even 200 dollar ventilators which had been created with a open licence.

Kelly nodded “Listen the problem is that the 326 dead children is just American poor children. The rich children got treatment but in many cases it was not as effective as the drug you helped block. Several of the rich parents sued because the drug from Neo Drug Company could have saved their children's lives. Several spent millions every year with their children screaming in agony every night when a single dose would have cured them. If you put in a audit request with us they might sue you as well. You ”

Kelly paused “If you put in a request for a review our system will calculate the total number of people your actions killed and then calculate the number that your actions may have saved. Unfortunately its world wide.

It is a number and its final. Looking at your file you might actually get your son stuck on our blacklist. Which would mean that he could not even pay for our service privately. ”

A scream almost came from Molly's mouth. She could barely scrape the 2000 dollars needed to put her son into a thirty day coma. Where would she get the one million dollars some of the advanced drug rehabilitation clinics cost. Even the budget options were 40,000 to 70,000 dollars. And those tended to have the doctors selling the patients drugs.

Wanting nothing more than to scream and curse Kelly Molly instead smiled “Its ok I have enough to put my son and that stupid woman he married in one of your sleep pods.”

Kelly's eyes lit up “That is great just make sure you have enough food. The latest storm has water logged a lot of the grain in the grain belt they say the grain is all going to rot away.”

Smiling Molly switched off the video link and began to curse. “I hope you wake up next to a diseased sheep rapist Kelly ”

The room Molly lived in had seen better days when she still had funds and food did not cost as much she had a actual house now she lived in a small warehouse. The roof of the old warehouse had a greenhouse that had one way glass. From above it looked like a metal extension. The bulletproof glass had metal spokes wielded to the frame in case of hurricanes.

Molly looked at the gas generator and cursed again. Most people now had solar panels but she could not risk anyone coming to steal them. So she had several panels in storage for the time when she could put them on the roof. Molly felt her bones creek she was old and youth serum too expensive. Even the lesser physical treatment serum was almost out of reach.

Sighing Molly looked at her pitiful bank account balance again. She had no money coming in all three of the homesteads she had purchased had issues. Either hurricanes or in one case bandits made them unsuitable for long term living. She looked again at the notice that bandits had raided one of her homesteads and literally stolen the entire house. They had dug up the foundations and moved the lot.

Molly sighed she needed money and she needed a lot of it. She still had one property left where a homestead could be set up. The location was away from the road and had water. What it did not have were any planted crops or indeed any type of a house. Instead it had a bunker dug into the side of a hill hidden from view and a small dam which would produce plenty of electricity.

What was needed was a stock of food which could last Molly and whoever she brought with her until the recent trouble settled down. Molly needed help on her homestead as she was old but whoever she brought with her had to be trustworthy. Unfortunately her son and his wife were not dependable. Molly had no one she could fully trust.

Jim the one employee she could slightly trust had family. What would happen when it came down to a choice of feeding her or feeding his family. Molly knew which way Jim would choose. He would regret it and might even offer her a quick death but when it came down to it Molly would be on the chopping block.

Pressing a button that would summon Jim Molly looked over her finances again. The cost of food was the biggest expense even with the hidden greenhouse her son and daughter in law needed to eat. Molly was not about to give them fresh food from her greenhouse as if they knew about it they might tell the wrong people.

Jim entered Molly's office and living room with out knocking and looking at her face sighed.

“Its tough all around. I would like to thank you for stopping me from selling weapons remember Calvin the guy who wanted me to set up missile 3d printers. They found him and his wife and kids nailed to their beds.

It turns out even the weapons dealers are having a hard time of it. The same with the drug dealers. A couple of them two blocks over were arrested for shooting pregnant women. It turns out the pregnant ladies husbands stole their weekly food and traded it for drugs.”

Jim shivered “Thank you again for paying for a month of stasis for me. But I have to remind you its tough everywhere. If you want extra money for food even illegal activities might not get you enough. In fact it might get you killed faster.”

A smile appeared on Molly's face. “I have a plan. We are going to rob the poppy farmers who grow the poppy plants. One field should gain us kilo's of heroin. After all they are talking about people starving to death in prison. So if we are going to do something illegal lets make sure its for enough money that we never have to work another day in out lives.”

Jim shivered “Molly your insane the drug companies would have us our families hell even our pets hunted down and killed.”

“No they will not you want to know why. There are fields of poppies being grown. Fields all of which need to protected from people like us. If they make a fuss or we make a fuss people might realise that there are a lot of fields full of heroin all waiting to be stolen.”
