The Adventurer’s Guild was in full swing by the time Cass, Rei, and Elara strolled through its tall, arched doors. The room was filled with bustling activity—adventurers chatting over drinks, others haggling over quests on the board, and the usual murmurs of gossip and tall tales filling the air like an ever-present hum. The trio, a little dusty from the day’s events but sporting an air of mystery, caught a few curious glances as they made their way in, drawing a ripple of attention that grew as they moved closer to the center.
Cass gave a sharp whistle, silencing the room with surprising efficiency. He looked around, letting the crowd settle before he finally began with a smirk.
“So, you lot look like you could use some news,” he said, giving the gathered adventurers a knowing glance. “Got a little story for ya about something we stumbled upon just recently.” His voice was casual, but a glint of excitement in his eye promised more.
Rei and Elara stood beside him, each lifting a satchel heavy with gleaming coins and jewels, caught under the torchlight like precious stars brought down to earth. A low murmur rippled through the room as adventurers nudged one another, and even those usually focused on their own business found themselves drawn to the sight of the glittering loot.
“Right, so here’s the story,” Cass continued, lowering his voice for effect. “Just beyond the misty forest, there’s a place they call the Wishing Well.”
There was a pause as the name settled over the room. Some adventurers scoffed, but others leaned forward, curiosity piqued by the hint of mysticism in his tone.
“It’s no ordinary well,” Rei added, his eyes darting around the crowd as he hooked them in. “This Well… it’ll guide you to whatever you wish for most. But, of course, it doesn’t come for free. You help it, it helps you. Or, if you’re feeling reckless, you can offer it something precious of yours in exchange.”
A man near the front, an older adventurer with a scar running down his left cheek, raised an eyebrow. “And you’re saying you struck gold just by doing the Well a favor?”
Elara nodded, her hand gripping the edge of her satchel. “We ventured into the depths below it—a dungeon, ancient as the stones it’s built from, waiting beneath. It’s part of the Well’s world, and it’s crawling with treasure. We went through a trial, gained powers…” She let the words hang, a faint grin tugging at her lips. “And the monsters we cleaned up left us a little extra, too.”
Her words sent a ripple through the crowd, and a buzz of excitement built as adventurers exchanged eager glances, their curiosity growing with each passing second. Cass lifted his own satchel, loosening the drawstring to reveal a handful of glittering jewels and aged coins, each stamped with symbols that whispered of a time long past.
“And this isn’t even all of it,” he said, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. “Just a little bonus from the Well. We did what it asked, took care of a few things, and the rest…” He shrugged, letting the unspoken promise of treasure speak for itself.
In the back, Bo and Aeri watched as the trio worked the room, their story sparking the exact kind of intrigue they’d hoped for. A few adventurers were already muttering about heading that way, but Bo knew the final nudge was still needed.
Without missing a beat, Bo stepped forward, his voice ringing clear. “Well, sounds like my kind of adventure. I’m headed that way right now.” He cast a glance around the room, feigning nonchalance. “Always up for a good mystery, and it seems like there’s a lot more hidden there than meets the eye.”
Cass hid a smirk as Bo spoke, but it was clear that the message had hit its mark. Eyes flicked from Cass’s trio to Bo, and the murmurs grew louder. More than a few adventurers shifted with anticipation, and one or two were already reaching for their packs.
An adventurer in dark, leather armor scoffed, though his eyes were bright with intrigue. “So you’re all just heading out there to see if this ‘Wishing Well’ coughs up some riches, huh? Not worried this might be some trap? If there were riches down there and these three had discovered such a place, they wouldn’t be sharing the news with us.”
Rei shrugged, his eyes gleaming. “Who would? However, there were some monsters down there that would be too much for just the three of us to handle, not to mention the other denizens of the mist that wander around. We had no choice.”
Cass’s grin widened. “We even told our old boss about it, now word’s already spreading around the city. Even a few from the higher-ups are interested. Place like that’s bound to attract some big names. The entire ‘underworld’ is now stirring.” He chuckled.
Bo let his gaze sweep over the crowd, his casual tone belying the thrill simmering beneath the surface. “It’s not every day you get to uncover something this big,” he added, his voice carrying the perfect note of excitement and mystery. “I’ll be making my way over there, before others clean up everything.”
With that, the crowd’s interest was sealed. Adventurers began to talk excitedly, some even jostling to secure supplies or discuss strategies. In a city as dynamic as Skyridge Haven, where news traveled faster than the winds themselves, it wouldn’t be long before the entire port city was buzzing with tales of the Wishing Well and the riches waiting in the dungeon below.

Cass’ trio led the growing entourage out of Skyridge Haven and through the winding paths that would lead them toward the misty forest. Bo also jumped along, with Aeri hovering beside him, her glow a little brighter than usual, as the crowd of adventurers, hunters, and curious bystanders joined their march.
Among them were representatives from the Adventurer’s Guild, well-equipped with enchanted armor and sleek weapons, and even a handful of expert hunters from the Home of Hunters. It was clear from their tight formations and watchful eyes that they took the rumors of the Well and this newly discovered underground world seriously.
As they entered the edge of the misty forest, Bo’s heart raced with anticipation. But something caught his eye—something very different from the thick, disorienting fog he remembered. Instead of the usual swirling mist that seemed to seep into every nook of the forest, there was a cleared pathway, wide enough to allow two carts to pass side by side, with the mist hovering just beyond it. It was as though the mist had been held at bay, forced into an orderly retreat.

He felt a twinge of surprise, turning to Aeri, whose expression mirrored his shock. “Did I miss something, or did someone decide to remodel?”
Aeri’s voice was hushed with awe. “This is… It almost feels like the mist itself is respecting some boundary.”
As they continued along the path, Bo noticed the trees had been neatly trimmed, the forest floor cleared of its usual underbrush. The journey felt oddly easy, and he wondered if it was the influence of the Well or something else entirely. Every so often, Bo spotted a faint rune inscribed on the trees lining the path, shimmering with residual energy—a ward of some kind. It was as if the entire forest had been tamed, made safe for travelers.
When they finally reached the edge of the clearing that held the Well, Bo came to an abrupt stop, his mouth dropping open. Aeri hovered beside him, equally stunned.
There was no meadow anymore. Gone was the quiet, mist-covered clearing that had once shrouded the Well. In its place was a bustling construction site, with wooden frameworks outlining the beginnings of buildings and stone pathways winding through the area. Villagers bustled about, carrying lumber, stacking stones, and hammering planks into place. It was as if an entire town had sprung up overnight around the Well, each building designed with purpose and detail, yet clearly still a work in progress.
Directly before the Well stood a massive wooden gate leading to an open plaza, with signs marking it as a restricted area, one that only those granted permission by the Well could enter. Around the plaza, stands were being assembled, stalls for trading, and tables for a market space. The area bustled with energy, with vendors already setting up goods, food, and drinks made from the orchards and farms in neat displays.
There, in the midst of the chaos, Lucy stood like the overseer of an elaborate play. She directed workers with graceful gestures, her voice carrying with unexpected authority as she instructed the villagers on how to arrange beams, lay tiles, and even inscribe her pre-made wards on stones. Several holographic projections floated around her, each showing different designs of buildings in various architectural styles. The entire scene was an intricate mix of order and spontaneity, a testament to the blend of human spirit and arcane power.
Bo’s eyes drifted to a structure set on a gentle hill near the center of this burgeoning town. It was a grand pagoda-style building, its roofs curving elegantly toward the sky, adorned with intricate carvings of vines and animals. Above its broad double doors was a carved sign reading, “Forest Spirit’s Shrine.” A flicker of utter shock spread through his fluffy body.
A little farther off was another grand building with its own sprawling courtyard, labeled “Bo’s Manor.” Set against the backdrop of the forest, its polished wood walls and tall windows gave it an air of importance. A path of cobblestone steps led up to its entrance, lined with lanterns, each glowing softly even in the daylight. His jaw dropped to the ground as he saw what seemed to be his new home…
Behind Bo, the adventurers and hunters muttered in awe, taking in the transformation with wide eyes. The sheer scale of the construction—enough to rival any established town—was astounding, and it appeared to have risen from the mist overnight.
Aeri was the first to find her voice, her awe clear in her tone. “They built all of this… in just one day?”
Before Bo could respond, Lucy spotted him and broke into a wide grin. With an excited wave, she rushed over, her robes trailing behind her. “My little Bunbun! You’re finally back!” She wrapped him in a tight hug, laughing as she lifted him off the ground.
Bo, completely caught off guard, tried to wriggle out of her grip, but Lucy’s hold was firm. Then, to his utter shock, she tilted her head and gave him a playful nibble, biting down just enough to cause a tickling sensation. Gasps erupted from the surrounding crowd as they watched, some readying their weapons, their faces filled with alarm.
But before they could take action, Bo was already laughing as he squirmed away, his paw swiping at Lucy’s hand. “What are you doing? You’re supposed to be, well, dignified or something! Stop eating me!!”
Lucy shrugged, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Oh, where’s the fun in that? Besides, you’re my little Bunbun.” She paused, noting the tense expressions of the crowd around them. “Oh, relax, everyone. He’s tougher than he looks.”
True to her words, Bo’s small bite marks healed almost instantly, leaving only faint traces for the crowd to see. Relieved but bewildered, the adventurers and villagers exchanged glances, some laughing off their initial concern, others watching Bo with newfound respect, and some others with a glint of hunger in their eyes, curious about the benefits of “eating” him.
Finally, Lucy’s playful expression faded, replaced by a serious look as she gestured around them. “I know this might be a lot to take in, but with everything that’s happened, I couldn’t afford to wait. So, while you were out there getting the city’s attention, I decided to speed things up a little. This town around the Well isn’t just for the villagers or adventurers. It’s for everyone who wants to seek the Well’s power… and perhaps help me in the process.”
Bo’s ears perked up, his curiosity piqued. “Help you with what, exactly?”
Lucy’s gaze softened, but she didn’t answer directly. “There’s more here than meets the eye, Bo. We have to start exploring the underground world seriously, and it’s a massive undertaking. That’s where people like these come in.”
She gestured toward the crowd of adventurers, villagers, and hunters, who watched her intently. “This place needs strength, dedication, and a fair bit of courage. We’ll need hands to clear the paths below, to push back the creatures that linger in the mist, and to uncover the secrets buried deep in the underground world. Each contribution will make this place safer, and in return…” She let her gaze sweep over them. “The Well offers its blessings, for those who are willing. Treasures? Power? Wealth? Or how about becoming younger and spry again through the Spring of Life?”
The murmurs grew louder as adventurers leaned closer, intrigued by her words. Cass and his group exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of surprise and anticipation, as they didn’t know there were opportunities for even such things down there. The stakes had just become clearer, and Bo could see the promise of adventure and rewards lighting up the eyes of everyone around them.
Bo looked around, noticing even more details he’d missed before—the buildings being constructed into inns, market stalls already bustling with wares from nearby villages, and a large plaza forming in front of the Well’s area. Lanterns and ribbons were strung along poles, and booths were set up for what looked to be a festival. Children raced by, giggling as they tried to catch flickering fireflies that danced above the cobblestones.
Aeri floated closer, a soft glow of amazement lighting her features. “It’s like a festival in the middle of a town that only just got started.”
Lucy smiled, nodding toward the growing plaza. “We’re calling it the Festival of Beginnings. After all, this is just the start. Soon, word will spread beyond the island, and people from all over will come here to explore, to uncover the secrets below, and to find their own paths.”
The enormity of it settled over Bo, and for a moment, he felt a mixture of fearand uncertainty. All of this had come from a simple agreement with Lucy—and now it was becoming something much bigger. But as he looked around, he saw faces of friends, of people who trusted him and believed in him.
With a final nod to Lucy, Bo turned to the crowd, his voice carrying over the plaza. “Well, what are we waiting for? This place isn’t going to build itself.” He gestured toward the bustling construction, and a round of cheers went up from the crowd, adventurers and villagers alike ready to dive into the work at hand.
The transformation had begun, not just for the town, but for the people drawn to it—and Bo hoped, deep down, that he had made the right choice, and that he could trust Lucy…
