Chapter 15 - Paralogue 3

Despite now being completely constituted of light, her head swam. With her new mentor, she'd reviewed Richard's progress as a monster several times over, pulling each of his steps and thoughts from the River of Truth. Her yet unnamed Draconic like mentor waited with a patience that could only be born through divinity, but apparently, even he had his limits.

"So, this mortal," he said, the two of them had moved to sit on a couch made from the same rock as the rest of the cavern except it felt better than the softest of beds. "You knew him from before?"

"Yes, he was my husband. He... got sick." She assumed he could figure out her lie, but it seemed more polite that way. "He slipped into a coma for the better part of a year, wasting away before... his Father eventually killed him."

"Interesting," her mentor said for what felt like the hundredth time. "And it appears that he didn't start to worship you until after he became a monster. Some shards of memories still remain in his soul and are bubbling up to his new life. It somehow brought both the distance and the love. That is a very, very unlikely thing to occur."

"Is it really that strange?" Danna herself dipped back into the Boundless Truth searching for answers. "It seems as though fragments of former lives are common enough in reincarnations?"

"They are, I suppose. Though it's the frequency and intensity that is odd. It almost seems as though your husband's memory was preserved somehow. What truly makes this almost impossible is not just the intensity of his visions, but the trueness of his belief as well. It's rare for a single True Believer to birth a Divinity. Not impossible, but rare. This makes this a once-in-a-millennia occurrence."

"So it's happened before?"

Her mentor sighed, his exhale heavy with the weight of eons. "Eternity is... long and existence is vast. It has happened many times, I'm sure."

Danna flicked a finger and a pane of light reappeared showing her now-monster husband who marched towards what would inevitably be his death. "And so after beating all the odds, my idiot husband is going to make sure to lose all his chips before lighting the casino on fire."

Her mentor chuckled, but tried to hide it behind his hand politely. "Yes, well, most monsters struggle with a certain amount of self awareness and wisdom in the Child stage - even the intelligent ones."

"Right sure, but there is a difference between that and walking headfirst into a war with allies that are guaranteed to betray you. If he had a plan other than betray them first, I'd be fine, but he's got nothing!" Danna sighed, rubbing her temples. "Please believe me when I say I love my husband to death, but he was always like this. I called it smart-dumb. He could make great plans or come up with really clever solutions but he always missed obvious details or was super overconfident."

"Well, you have my condolences then."

"Thanks," she said though she kept rubbing her temples. It didn't have the same effect on a Goddess, but it was comforting. She glanced over at her mentor. "So what happens if he dies, does he come to my heaven or what?"

"Normally, it would be something like that before his next reincarnation. However, he's your only believer."

She stared at him and realized what he was saying. A quick dip into the Boundless Truth confirmed it. "No."

"Unlike mortals, we don't reincarnate when we die. We cease."
