A girl ran.

She ran further and further away from what used to be her home.

Where she last saw her friends, cheering another day of living in the place where they did not want to be. Despite their size, despite their weaknesses, they cheered because they lived. Lived even when the monsters came at them, even when the shadows themselves fought against them. For that, they were happy, and for that, they cheered.

Until one of their own turned against them.

She ran further and further away from the place where sins remain hidden, the place which Giants and monsters roamed.

Even now, she can still remember them. And a time before them. A time of hunger and fangs. A time of hiding from those who prey on children caught by the Mist. Of being found and hiding her endless hunger so others may eat. Hiding a terrible, festering curse.

While running, she passed monsters.

Moving clusters of bone, eyes glowing with undeath, flesh of magic and shadow. Others, simply twisted forms of what the Mists caught, wolves too large with far too many teeth, massive birds with glowing eyes, horrible grasping things with too many arms and mouths. Strangely, they all ignored her.

Just like the days leading up to today.

A week after being found by the others, she was known as one of their best foragers, since few monsters attacked her and she could spend more time looking. The week after, She was known as the one with the best vision, since the constant fog didn't seem to affect her sight. This disturbed the girl, since the fog was becoming clearer to her day by day, while it stayed the same for the others. The weeks afterwards, she had grown used to being around her friends, trying to survive the hostile world. Until the day when it came.

She ran.

She ran until the adults found her. Adult humans, not monsters.
